Senate Bill 143 (Universal Background Checks) The Nevada Firearms Coalition is STRONGLY OPPOSED to SB143. This bill is ineffective in reducing homicides or keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals: The University of California at Davis examined the first ten years after California developed universal background checks. Their study found no net difference between firearm-related homicide rates before and during the 10 years after law implementation. Universal background checks are really a gateway to UNIVERSAL GUN REGISTRATION. This is not a gun crime issue; it is a gun control issue!

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and other members of the state’s congressional delegation announced legislation Monday that would repeal the cap on state and local income tax deductions enacted as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, H.R. 1 (115). Menendez (D-N.J.) and Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), the primary sponsors, say their bill would pay for the cost of removing the $10,000 cap by restoring the top income tax bracket to 39.6 percent. While that’s likely a nonstarter with many in the GOP, Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) — New Jersey’s only Republican congressman — is...

RICHMOND, Va. — Explaining that he had no idea he was even in the line of succession to become the leader of the Commonwealth, Frank Donahue, the State Capitol’s head janitor, arrived at work to discover that he was now Virginia’s governor, sources confirmed Thursday. “This is all a shock to me,” Donahue remarked. Despite having spent the past seven years making sure the bathrooms outside of the Senate Chamber are clean, he is now poised to become the state’s governor due to his noticeably clean background. “I had overheard about the stuff Northam, Fairfax, and Herring were going through,...

Professor of Finance for the College of Staten Island and Research Fellow at The University Transportation Research Center Johnathan Peters says if Connecticut lawmakers are looking to raise revenue for transportation, they might be better off looking somewhere else besides highway tolls. “Tolls, generally, are expensive to collect,” Peters said in an interview. “It’s not free. There’s a lot of technology and a lot of equipment, and that equipment will have to be maintained and replaced over time.” Peters -- whose area of expertise and study involves regional planning and road and mass transit financing -- says tolls are more...

The three key states for 2020 are PA, FL, and NC. All three states have seen significant voter registration trends TOWARD the GOP since 2016, when Trump won all 3 states. FL = GOP net gain of 70,263 NC = GOP net gain of 168,288 PA = GOP net gain of 75,831 Much has been made of the change in FL law allowing felons to vote, however studies have shown that this would only net approximately 50,000 votes for the Dems. Trump won FL by 120,000 in 2016 and the GOP, as shown above, is in better shape as of...

Every election is the most important in our lifetimes. At least, that’s what those running in every election want voters to believe. The future of the state, the country, and possibly human existence itself hang in the balance. “Settle down,” an exasperated populace sighs. “You’re running for village comptroller.” Stakes are raised in successive elections (no matter how seemingly insignificant) largely as a motivational tool, but occasionally a race does have the potential to fundamentally alter history. And believe it or not, one is coming up in a little more than two months. De facto control of the Wisconsin Supreme...

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS - Every day on her drive home from work, Kali Roberts is taken aback by the angry pile of motorists who converge on westbound Loop 820 in North Richland Hills. Traffic coming from Texas 121/183 “Airport Freeway” must squeeze from four to two lanes, between Boulevard 26 and Rufe Snow Drive, causing gridlock that persists not only during rush hour periods but most of the day. Meanwhile, as drivers on the nearby TEXPress lanes whiz by at 75 mph, motorists in the toll-free lanes crawl at about 10 mph and cut each other off, including many who...

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues to harass and persecute Christians and, in recent months, has taken to removing pictures of Jesus Christ from inside homes and replacing them with pictures of dictator Mao Zedong and/or China’s current authoritarian president, Xi Jinping. In addition, Communist officials have removed Christian symbols and phrases on the outside of homes and replaced them with phrases praising socialist materialism. As the religious liberty and Chinese human rights magazine Bitter Winter and CBN News have reported, government officials in Xiayi county in the Henan Province have warned, “Anyone who hangs up portraits of Jesus or...

Like an island bathed in sunshine but surrounded by stormy seas, General Electric Aviation’s River Works plant is hiring at record levels and shouldering big aviation contracts even as GE works its way out of a corporate slide. Company executives hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony a month ago to inaugurate the River Works assembly and shipping area for the new T408 helicopter engine. The ceremony capped off GE Aviation’s success in landing a $143 million initial production contract in 2017 to build 22 engines to power a new Marine Corps heavy-lift helicopter. State Rep. Peter Capano retired from a 29-year career...

Stop the presses! No, it’s not a joke. It’s not satire from “The Onion.” This is the Virginian Pilot banner headline - front page center - on New Year’s Eve. And if you think that this is an aberration, the following day’s front page features “Norfolk doctor turns 180 pounds of sugar into Chrysler Museum.” Complete with a color photograph of this creation. Happy New Year? This is not some rinky-dink student publication. The Pilot is Virginia’s largest daily, serving Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News and smaller communities in Southeastern Virginia and parts of North Carolina. It’s all...
