After being sentenced to a year in prison he got his life back on track, by most accounts. Kernell, 30, was a student at the University of Tennessee 10 years ago when he successfully guessed Palin's security answers, which allowed him to change the password and get access to the Yahoo account, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported while confirming his death last week in California through family members.

The city of Memphis got rid of two Confederate statues Wednesday night, after a Tennessee two-step around a state law designed to prevent just that. “If there is no God, everything is permitted”, wrote Dostoyevsky. Yet he underestimated the despotic potential of godless modernity. It imposes its own taboos, and they may well be more numerous than those imposed by Christendom. They certainly are different because their purpose is. Judaeo-Christianity saw man as sinful but capable of becoming better. Both its prescriptions and proscriptions were issued to signpost the road to self-improvement in this world and salvation in the next. The original commandments were chiselled in stone literally, the later ones figuratively, but there was no room left for misinterpretation in either case. Modernity sees...

The small business owners who rent space inside El Mercadito shopping mall in Memphis offer a bit of everything: jewelry, insurance, cell phones, cowboy boots. Shoppers can play video games, eat at a restaurant or pause at the monument to the Virgin of Guadalupe, which is decorated with Christmas lights. Most of the shoppers are Mexican immigrants or their children. But business at the Hickory Hill shopping mall has dropped by about 50 percent in the past couple of months as wary immigrants stay close to home, said mall owner Gaspar Perez. “Everything that the president said has affected me,”...

The liberal media had been trying to make a lot of hay out of accusations that the Trump family had tried to sell access to themselves and their president-elect father. So far such concerns seem to have little merit since all of the instances pointed to by accusers have not actually happened. But that didn’t stop it from being a topic of conversation on CNN’s OutFront on Wednesday. “This has been a stumbling block for the Trumps,” argued fill in host Poppy Harlow, after a long winded report about the accusations was aired, “Why even open yourself up to this...

Mr. Trump, PLEASE as one of your tasks, set up a DOJ task force to completely shut down corruption in major cities across the United States. Chicago is one and we all know it. Memphis is so bad, you're likely to be robbed on the street, shoot the thug and end up in court in front of a judge who was related to the thug. New Orleans isn't much different. Detroit is a complete hellhole, third world country experience. Please do something about the corruption! Make America great again!

Hidden among all the recent great news affecting Birmingham’s amazing rebirth is the story of the long-awaited opening of I-22, or Corridor X. That’s a shame, because no single success in our recent past may prove to be more important and have greater long-term favorable impact on this region than today’s ribbon cutting. Since the days of the Roman Empire and the famous Appian Way, roads (and particularly crossroads) have always played a critically important role in the economic growth and prosperity of cities. In the earliest days of our country, waterway intersections were the places where communities grew into...
