House Democrats shared their new campaign slogan for 2018, per Politico: "For the People." Why it matters: Dems are trying to capture what they stand for by simplifying their economy-focused "A Better Deal" message, but neither slogan will inspire Democratic voters the way Trump's "Make America Great Again" broke through with Republicans. Show less Yes, but: Take it from Rep. Cheri Bustos, who told Politico that no one is "claiming this is poetic ... It’s just a way, in a quick way, to put together the answer to what we stand for.” The message will focus on using infrastructure to...

Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, said at a dinner in Washington on Thursday night that he had no intention of supporting presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, and said he was "dismayed" by what he saw as a drift toward "demagoguery and populism" in both parties.

In making his case for a public vote on taxes Wednesday, Gov. Jerry Brown made an interesting reference to a line in the state constitution: "All political power is inherent in the people." It is in Article II, Section I, a part of the constitution related to laws on the initiative, referendum and recall process. "It's a question of who's sovereign in this country and in this state," Brown said Wednesday. "It's we the people. . . .

A Republican senator from Utah is set to lose the party's nomination on Saturday and become a high-profile casualty of the Tea Party movement. After 18 years representing the western state, Bob Bennett, 76, faces the wrath of party activists who think he has drifted too far to the middle ground and become too identified with broken central government. He will be opposed at caucuses by eight opponents all to his Right politically who have all sought the endorsement of the state's active Tea Party groups. Under Utah's quirky rules, without 40 per cent of the vote at Saturday's party...

Laura Ingraham, one of America's great conservative talk show hosts, appeared in Rancho Cucamonga, CA today to sign her best selling book, POWER TO THE PEOPLE. The book is for activists who want to take back our culture. It was great to meet with FReeper The Spirit Of Allegiance. He will tell his own part of the story. The book cover and TV appearances don't do her justice. Laura is absolutely beautiful both inside and outside. She is a great spokesman for our side. A large crowd gathered well over an hour before the scheduled signing. When the bus arrived,...

Sticking and moving like a prize fighter, talk show host and author Laura Ingraham, outnumbered in a three against one fight, took out not only "Hardball" host Chris Matthews but his colleague David Shuster and NBC News political director Chuck Todd, as well. View video here. (courtesy NB contributor Mark Finkelstein)On Thursday night's "Hardball" Ingraham took Matthews to task for his outrageous claims about the Iraq war being about oil as she threw his past bias in his face: "What? What? Chris are, were you the one, the other night, correct me if I'm wrong, who said that we...

Wow! I arrived at the Borders book store in Farmington, CT about 15 minutes late and missed Laura's introductory remarks, but the line for a signed book was still snaking through the book store! There must have been about 100 people in front of me when I got into line, allowing me to read through the intro and into the first chapter. Good stuff, right on the money! After having my book signed and getting a picture with Laura there were likely 50 people behind me. GREAT turn out, far more than the 30 or so chairs set up around...

According to sources at B&N, Ingraham’s book is even outselling Bill Clinton’s massively popular “Giving” and Rosie O'Donnell's "Celebrity Detox." As of this morning, "Power to the People" reached #1 at Amazon. "We can’t yet predict how high her first week’s sales will be," commented Marji Ross, President of Regnery Publishing (a HUMAN EVENTS sister company), but 'Power to the People' is off to an amazing start.” “More than 200,000 copies are already...

Lilliputian Systems invented a microchip-size fuel cell that can run your cell phone for a week. A couple of years ago it seemed that the battery era was coming to an end. In a flurry of announcements, Japanese manufacturers including Toshiba and NEC said they'd soon be rolling out miniature fuel cells to power mobile phones, music players and laptops. To recharge you'd only have to pour in some more alcohol. Consumers would be freed from the tyranny of the wall plug. And then, radio silence. None of the promised fuel cells has hit the market. The materials inside these...

Perhaps judicial review wasn\'t such a great idea after all. In Marbury v. Madison (1803), Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall assumed the power of judicial review over acts of the legislature. According to Marshall, the Constitution vested in the Supreme Court the ability to overturn legitimately enacted laws if those laws conflicted with the Constitution itself. It is anything but clear that the Constitution meant to create the power of judicial review. Marshall\'s opinion is full of holes, both textual and logical. As Judge Learned Hand stated, Marshall\'s opinion \"will not bear scrutiny.\" Professor Alexander Bickel of Yale University...

BASRA, Iraq -- Glistening in Iraq's barren southern salt plains, a natural gas-driven power station has come on line, generating sorely needed electricity for war-weary Iraqis and demonstrating that much-maligned U.S.-led reconstruction efforts are beginning to bear fruit. U.S. officials said Sunday that increasing Iraq's electricity generating capacity through facilities such as the 250 megawatt electricity plant near the southern city of Basra is crucial to American efforts to encourage Iraqis to turn their backs on the insurgency. Among the most infuriating problems for Iraqis nearly three years after the U.S.-led invasion remains the lack of regular electricity to run...

KIEV, Ukraine - Russian President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites), who openly backed Viktor Yushchenko's rival for president of the Ukraine, said in an abrupt reversal Tuesday that he could work with an administration headed by the pro-Western candidate. "We have worked with him already and the cooperation was not bad," Putin said during a visit to Germany. "If he wins, I don't see any problems." Yushchenko was prime minister from 1999 to 2001, and before that he headed the Central Bank for six years.
