From a man who experienced all he needs to know about a major f#%k-up of a party during the Carter years: [VIDEO AT SITE] And the spin? Well, its a good thing that we're gonna get our asses handed to us because we needed to get rid of some those hard-headed Democrats anyways: In an interview with The Hill, the Energy and Commerce Committee chairman expressed confidence that Democrats will retain the House, and suggested he won’t miss some of the Democrats who won’t be back next year. “I think a lot of the House seats we’re going to lose...

We all know what the motive behind it was, and it has nothing to do with “human rights” or “splitting up families” or other such poppycock. The Environmental Protection Agency Thursday rejected an effort to keep it from regulating greenhouse gas emissions, saying that e-mails released in last fall’s “Climategate” scandal gave it no reason to reconsider the science of global warming. In a sternly written opinion, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said she didn’t agree with requests from the GOP attorneys general from Texas and Virginia, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other conservative groups that questioned the underlying science linking humans to global warming and also warned of the potential economic burdens from new climate rules. Jackson said the groups’ arguments lack merit. “These petitions...

PHOENIX – A judge has blocked the most controversial sections of Arizona's new immigration law from taking effect Thursday, handing a major legal victory to opponents of the crackdown. The law will still take effect Thursday, but without many of the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Vice President Joe Biden brushed aside suggestions on Sunday that Democrats will suffer big losses in November midterm elections, vowing that Barack Obama's governing party will "shock the heck out of everybody." Speaking on the ABC News program "This Week," Biden dismissed prevailing wisdom that Democrats, 17 months into Obama's transformative residency in the White House, would suffer a drubbing at the hands of salivating Republicans. "I don't think the losses are going to be bad at all," Biden said. "I think we're going to shock the heck out of everybody." Biden said he was "confident when...

I have an idea for a little Agitprop project that has been bouncing around in my head since I uploaded the "Are You Paying Attention Now?" video. (Agitprop Definition: propaganda; especially : political propaganda promulgated chiefly in literature, drama, music, or art) Here is the "Are you Paying Attention Now?" video on youtube in cased you missed it: "Are you Paying Attention Now?" I want to make another video based on the same theme but using multiple incidents. The idea would be to make a video with original music that shows an escalation in the Obama admin's assault on individual...

Bring it on, says Nancy Pelosi, dismissing GOP election hopes By Bob Cusack and Jared Allen – 05/19/10 08:47 PM ET Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a message for Republicans this fall: Bring it on. A buoyant Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday basked in the Democrats’ special-election triumph while bashing Republicans and expressing confidence that her party will retain control of the House. In an interview with The Hill, the Speaker said it was very important to her that Democrats retain the late Rep. John Murtha’s (D-Pa.) seat, which they did Tuesday night. Pelosi, who was very close with Murtha, said Republicans...

At least two influential unions will spend close to $100 million on the 2010 election, with most of those funds going to protect incumbents. Union officials told The Hill they plan to help endangered members — particularly freshmen — who made politically difficult votes in a year during which an anti-incumbent mood has filled the country. And the number will be even higher since the AFL-CIO declined to give its figures. While the labor movement has displayed an aggressive tack in Democratic primaries, including supporting some challengers over incumbents, it remains concerned about the party retaining its congressional majorities. As...

Yesterday morning Mexican President Felipe Calderon addressed a joint session of the U.S. Congress. During part of his speech he stated that he strongly disagreed with the recently-passed anti-illegal immigration law in the state of Arizona. For that swipe at a U.S. state’s decision to take a stand against illegal immigration, the Democrats in attendance gave Calderon a standing ovation, as shown in the video below. Take note that at about the 20-second mark of the clip, there is a woman wearing a turquoise-colored top standing up. That person is former Arizona governor Janet Napolitano, who is of course now...

The Next American Civil War: The Populist Revolt Against the Liberal Elite Lee Harris Remember those rowdy Town-Hall meetings last summer sparked by President Obama’s proposed health-care reform? Harris wants to make the case that those eruptions of populist anger could prove to be the beginning of the next American civil war. Yes, that kind of civil war. Drawing from a wealth of history and political philosophy, he contends that the philosophical divide between the Tea Party populists and the liberal intellectuals is so deep that nothing short of a “civil breakdown” is likely to mend the rift. And he...

Barack Obama won two groups at unprecedented levels in the post-war era -- blacks and youth. This feat carried with it two stark realities for the next contest. Both blocs have a low turnout rate in midterm elections. And both blocs were particularly personally attached to Obama and the change he personified.Obama's absence from the 2010 ballot was, therefore, always to be a problem for Democrats. But the gravity of that problem has grown with Democrats' larger problems.Next month, the Democratic National Committee will begin a $50 million program to turn out the Obama base in November.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says "mama grizzles" will punish Washington in November's midterm elections. Palin on Friday told an anti-abortion rights group that women will lead a Republican wave and stop the Democratic agenda. She also criticized President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. Palin said female activists - "mama grizzlies," she calls them - will help the party "take this country back."

It was a jarring split screen. On one side of the television, members of Congress were bloviating about the need for financial reform to prevent another crisis. On the other side of the screen, Greek rioters were finally dispersing in a cloud of tear gas after their firebombs sent world markets skidding.Down in the lower right corner, the readout on the Dow looked like the altimeter on a nose-diving jet.How funny that anyone would promise to bring security and predictability to a financial world that can be undone by the protests of some uncivil servants in a little country in the corner...

There’s a lot of political ferment and discontent out there, a sense that the political universe may be reordering itself in unpredictable ways. And over the weekend, it claimed a prominent victim. From Politico: “SALT LAKE CITY — It’s on. The first incumbent of the 2010 election year crashed and burned Saturday, and there’s ample cause for alarm for officeholders everywhere. There was no personal scandal, no whiff of corruption, no silver bullet here. Republican Sen. Robert Bennett was one of the most powerful and likable members of the Senate, he diligently protected Utah’s interests from his post in GOP...

Wow. Who says conservatives can’t do multimedia? By Jon Ward | Published: 04/23/10 at 2:55 PM | Updated: 04/23/10 at 4:34 PM The Republican Governor’s Association put out a video Friday that is a pretty slick piece of work. It’s basically an 80-second movie trailer that casts President Obama as the villain of modern American politics, with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as his sidekick and henchman. But it’s a pretty impressive piece of multimedia, especially since conservatives are generally thought of as being pretty lame in that realm. The music, editing, pacing and graphics are top notch....
