Uber chief Travis Kalanick said he wants to expand operations in Europe and, in the process, create 50,000 jobs and take 400,000 personal vehicles off the road. But for me at least, things have changed. Say I need a ride to the airport. I can tap an icon on my cellphone and a car will arrive, usually within five minutes. I normally take whatever vehicle is available; and that's most likely a black town car. But if I have several passengers with me and we have a lot of luggage, I can order a van....

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport officials say too many cabdrivers are refusing to carry airport travelers, apparently due to religious beliefs. So during a Wednesday meeting of the Metropolitan Airports Commission's management and operations committee, officials suggested a heavy-fisted solution — drivers who refused such fares would have their airport licenses suspended.
