New York City officials (Eric Adams) have discussed handing tents to newly arrived migrants and housing them in encampments in parks, according to a report. The city has already erected large tents to shelter asylum seekers but this new proposal would be more like a campsite, sources told The Wall Street Journal. The report comes after Mayor Eric Adams yesterday said 'everything is on the table' when asked whether his plans to shelter migrants would extend to Manhattan's iconic Central Park. Adams has said the city has run out of hotel rooms and indoor sites to house the 65,000 migrants...

Months of stepping past sidewalk homeless camps and open-air drug markets have taken their toll on residents of Portland, Oregon. Voters there have delivered a stunning rebuke to officials of the Democrat-run hipster city, with three quarters calling homelessness 'an out-of-control disaster.' The survey, commissioned by People for Portland, a conservative advocacy group, found that more than two thirds of voters wanted to clear the streets by forcing drug addicts into rehab. Respondents also by wide margins supported Mayor Ted Wheeler's plan to ban homeless daytime camping and people stringing up tents near schools and daycare centers. Portland City Council...

Disabled residents suing Portland over scores of homeless encampments blocking city sidewalks have discovered the city spent at least $2million in taxpayer funds to buy those tents and tarps. Plaintiffs learned that Multnomah County's Joint Office of Homeless Services (JOHS) used the millions to buy 22,000 tents and 70,000 tarps for its homeless residents, but kept basically no record of who got the supplies or where they were set up. The lawsuit alleges the Oregon city is in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act by allowing tents to build up unchecked across the city and block disabled people's abilities...

The Big Apple will begin setting up large tents to house intake centers and cots for the flood of migrants arriving daily as the months-long influx from the southern border has overwhelmed city shelters, Mayor Adams announced Thursday. City Hall laid out the plan as officials revealed that more than 2,000 additional migrants — predominantly asylum seekers fleeing Venezuela — had streamed into the five boroughs over just the last week. That brings the total number to an estimated 13,600, the bulk of which — 10,300 — are staying in city shelters. “More than 100 years ago, Ellis Island opened...

Oregon communities must rewrite local rules to allow Oregonians to sit, lie, sleep and keep warm and dry on public property in most circumstances. House Bill 3115, which passed the Senate on Wednesday afternoon and is en route to Gov. Kate Brown’s desk, is a response to a 2018 landmark homelessness case that impacted most Western states with an intent to better support individuals experiencing homelessness. While local governments should already be following rules set forth by the case known as Martin v. Boise, the bill, written at the behest of House Speaker Tina Kotek, forces cities to officially change...

Diehard supporters of Sen. Bernard Sanders stormed media tents and staged a sit-in Tuesday night minutes after Hillary Clinton officially claimed the party’s presidential nomination, injecting another round of drama into the convention and pouring cold water on claims Democrats are fully uniting behind their White House nominee. Hundreds of Sanders backers, most carrying signs backing their candidate, conducted what seemed to be a well-coordinated march from the Wells Fargo Center to the media tents just outside the arena. They said that party officials were trying to confiscate Sanders signs inside Wells Fargo

PEST FREE During a family vacation and faced with an unexpected storm, we decided to rent a small unfurnished cabin at a state park. As soon as we had our sleeping bags spread on the floor, our pillows fluffed, and the room dark, a million feet started crawling over our faces and legs. Oh, the horror when we switched on the lights. Every conceivable, imaginable creature had crawled out of the woodwork. I had never seen so many bugs in one place. On top of that, we had several raccoons circling around the cabin. Then I remembered our tent. Not...

"I'm 100 percent in favor of protecting—1,000 percent in favor—of giving people rights to say things, but also we have to protect those who don't want to say anything," Bloomberg said. He continues, per his eponymous news outlet: There are places where I think it's appropriate...

Daphni Leef, one of the leaders of the social protests in Israel, denied in a conversation with Arutz Sheva on Tuesday that the protest is a leftist protest aimed at overthrowing the government. “As an individual I can tell you that I’m not right or left,” Leef said. “I’ve lost my faith in the elected officials whoever they are. That’s why this protest is so important. “There’s no right and left here,” she added. “What we do have here is people. Each person will live by his own faith, as they say. It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that...

At Qualcomm Stadium, to which thousands of evacuees fled throughout the day Monday to escape approaching fires, the hazy and acrid air pinched the throat. Despite those reminders of the nearby inferno, the stadium seemed an oasis of order. Hundreds of volunteers and city workers stacked up towers of pizza boxes, water bottles and blankets. Steaming cups of coffee were on offer as well as free massages and reflexology sessions. A clown twisted balloons for children, several autism specialists were available to give parents of disabled children a break, and an electric guitarist jammed with his speaker turned low. -snip-Carl...

Tourists to the world's most visited city have a few more sights than they bargained for this year, much to the annoyance of city authorities. Clusters of igloo-shaped tents have popped up like mushrooms all over the French capital, under bridges, along the...
