Craig Hicks Sentenced to Life for Killing Three Neighbors (Part 2) JUN 17, 2019 10:00 AM BY HUGH FITZGERALD The campaign by Muslims to rewrite Hicks’s history, to de-emphasize his obsessing over parking and noise and to claim, without the slightest evidence, that he was “anti-Muslim,” has succeeded. “It was a bias crime” has become the accepted narrative. On the day of his sentencing, District Attorney Santana Deberry said: “There was no plea offered to Craig Hicks today. There was no negotiation with him. His hate of Islam drove him to kill three innocent people. He gets no deals. He...

Day to day, it’s easy to lose sight of an astonishing fact: Since 2012, humankind has been driving a nuclear-powered sciencemobile the size of an SUV on another planet. This engineering marvel, NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity, has revolutionized our understanding of the red planet. And thanks to the intrepid rover, we now know that ancient Mars had carbon-based compounds called organic molecules—key raw materials for life as we know it. A new study published in Science on Thursday presents the first conclusive evidence for large organic molecules on the surface of Mars, a pursuit that began with NASA’s Viking landers...

Tufts University postponed an event with Anthony Scaramucci after the former White House communications director threatened a lawsuit over an opinion piece published in the student newspaper. Scaramucci was scheduled to speak at the university’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy on Monday, but a university spokesman told The Boston Globe the event would be delayed until “legal matters” are resolved. In a letter dated Nov. 21, Scaramucci’s lawyer said he would take legal action unless the newspaper retracted “false and defamatory allegations of fact” in an op-ed piece calling for Scaramucci’s removal from an advisory board at the school....

MEDFORD, Mass. — Colleges are paying students to take a year off after high school to travel, volunteer or do internships so that students of all income brackets can benefit from “gap years.” A new program at Tufts University and existing ones at a handful of other schools aim to remove the financial barriers that can keep cash-strapped students from exploring different communities and challenge their comfort zones before jumping right into college. The gap year program starting this fall at Tufts will pay for housing, airfare and even visa fees, which can often add up to $30,000 or more....

Tufts University, a private school in Massachusetts, has now officially ceased to be a university. Tufts has a national reputation for heavy handed suppression of free speech despite its close proximity to places where many of our nation's first great free speech victories were fought and won. Few who are familiar with Tufts will be surprised to learn that their student government has initiated measures to de-recognize a Christian group because its leaders are required to adhere to "basic Biblical truths of Christianity." At Tufts, tolerance equals excluding people in order to be inclusive. At Tufts, discrimination is remedied...

Scientists have created a tadpole that can literally watch what it eats: The tadpole has an eye growing in its gut. Led by developmental biologist Michael Levin of Tufts University in Medford, Mass., the researchers manipulated cells in the tadpole’s gut to take on a specific electrical state. Those cells developed into a fully formed eye. Inducing just the right electrical state in cells can lead to eye growth anywhere on the body, the team reports online December 7 in Development. Bizarre as the experiment sounds, it is a major step toward regenerating complex organs and limbs. One day, Levin...

BOSTON - Sex in a dorm at Tufts University is fine. Sex in a Tufts dorm with your roommate there? That's a no-no. The Boston-area school has a new policy this semester banning sexual activity while a roommate is in the same room.

If nothing is done to combat global warming, two of Florida's nuclear power plants, three of its prisons and 1,362 hotels, motels and inns will be under water by 2100, a study released on Wednesday said. In all, Florida could stand to lose $345 billion a year in projected economic activity by 2100 if nothing is done to reduce emissions that are viewed as the main human contribution to rising global temperatures, according to the Tufts University study. The status quo, the climate that we have right now, is not an available option unless we act immediately," said Frank Ackerman,...

Master of Social Change by: Emmanuel Opati, September 26, 2007 Tufts University’s Tischi Civil Engagement Program is likely to change the approach to higher education system at U.S Colleges and Universities in the near future. Speaking at a Center for American Progress (CAP) seminar, Rob Hollister, Dean of Jonathan M. Tischi College of Citizenship and Public Service said “we are graduating students that are both accomplished and effective agents of social change.” “Faculty in all disciplines are integrating values of active citizenship and volunteering in their programs,” noted Mr. Hollister in the event sponsored by CAP, which describes itself as...

On Monday evening at Tufts University, I attended a long, grueling show trial -- the kind of show trial that doubtless will be repeated at campuses across the United States. This show trial was convened with the sole purpose of punishing The Primary Source, Tufts' lone conservative periodical. What was The Source's sin? On December 6, 2006, The Source printed a tasteless parody carol entitled "O Come, All Ye Black Folk." The carol was written from the perspective of an admissions officer, admitting students solely based on racially discriminatory stereotypes: "All come! Blacks, we need you, / Born into the...

Controversial figure Lawrence Summers is due to speak at Tufts next month. The question is, will anyone listen? The former Harvard president, whose alleged views on race and gender have sparked controversy, is scheduled to deliver this semester's Richard E. Snyder Presidential Lecture. His speech will be entitled "Rethinking Undergraduate Education." The speech will come on the heels of Shelby Steele's fierce criticism of affirmative action in last semester's Snyder Lecture and the nationally-publicized parody in The Primary Source that condemned affirmative action while using language that many considered racially insensitive. This combination of events has led many to oppose...

(AgapePress) - A lesbian who was fired for her role in the notorious "Fistgate" conference at Tufts University has brought a civil suit against two Massachusetts pro-family activists who attended the 2000 conference and then proceeded to expose what went on at the pro-homosexual event. The statewide conference that took place March 25 of that year was actually called "Teach-Out," and was sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. The event's scandalous nickname comes from one of the many sexually explicit topics discussed at...
