Former Officer Derek Chauvin was justified in pinning George Floyd to the ground because of his frantic resistance, a use-of-force expert testified for the defense Tuesday, contradicting a parade of authorities from both inside and outside the Minneapolis Police Department. Taking the stand at Chauvin’s murder trial, Barry Brodd, a former Santa Rosa, California, police officer, said officers don’t have to wait for something bad to happen; they need only to have a reasonable fear that there’s a threat and then adjust their actions accordingly. “It’s easy to sit and judge … an officer’s conduct. It’s more of a challenge...

Contrary to corporate media narratives, up to 95 percent of this summer’s riots are linked to Black Lives Matter activism, according to data collected by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED). The data also show that nearly 6 percent — or more than 1 in 20 — of U.S. protests between May 26 and Sept. 5 involved rioting, looting, and similar violence, including 47 fatalities. ACLED is a nonprofit organization that tracks conflict across the globe. Its U.S. project that collected the summer protest data is supported by Princeton University. The project’s spreadsheet collating tens of thousands...

A week ago Sunday, social media erupted when a graphic video emerged showing a white Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer shoot, multiple times, a black man in the back as he attempted to enter a vehicle containing three children. The man later identified as 29-year-old Jacob Blake survived, and remains hospitalized. As the video went viral, violence erupted in this mid-sized Wisconsin community. Rather than call for calm, Wisconsin’s first-term governor, Democrat Tony Evers, fueled the outrage by framing the shooting as yet another “Black man or person” “shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law...

Americans must resist the push to conflate dissimilar events in order to promote the radical political aims of the Black Lives Matter movement. In the aftermath of George FloydÂ’s death, the subject of racism and police brutality lept to the forefront of our political discourse. While both are important matters to explore and discuss, the fact is that such debate is not being held in an honest fashion. Instead, a chosen narrative has become more important than fact. Worse, there is an intentional effort to conflate even the most dissimilar events in order to promote the political aims of the...

Amid nationwide Black Lives Matter protests, riots, looting, and calls to defund the police, a Harvard economist has found that proactive policing saves black lives. “Defunding the police is not a solution and could cost thousands of black lives,” Roland Fryer told The College Fix in an interview about his latest research. “I think the streets are talking and we should listen. People are frustrated,” he continued in the email. He sympathizes with frustration at “big racial differences” in educational achievement, life expectancy and “almost every part of life.” The youngest African-American professor to receive tenure in Harvard history, Fryer...

With the recent passage of two anti-cop pieces of legislation, lawmakers in California proved their utter contempt for the men and women who risk their lives to protect and serve in the Golden State. Cop-hating California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 392, placing even more restrictions on when an officer can use deadly force unless it is “necessary.” It’s as if there are already not enough restrictions codified in law. The standard previously was that of “reasonable” fear of imminent danger to themselves or others, just like currently held in Supreme Court decisions on use of force by...

Remember the signature event in Ferguson, Missouri, that started the recent war on cops? You know, where the lie of 'hands up don't shoot' was spawned? Remember when the Congressional Black Caucus embarrassingly stood on the House floor with their hands raised? I remember when they smeared the character, reputation, and sacrifice of the fine men and women who put on a uniform and risk greatly to protect and serve. They weren't alone. Even President Obama had added fuel to the fire claiming that our police officers have a problem with people who don't look like them. At that time,...

The White House has signed a memo granting the troops stationed at the border authority to engage in some law enforcement and to use lethal force if they are in danger, according to a report in Military Times. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly signed the memo, which allows troops to assist the Border Patrol in crowd control and even detaining illegal immigrants, the paper reported. The memo appears to make good on President Trump’s insistence that the military play a more active role in preventing the migrant caravans from overrunning the U.S. border, as they did a month...

More than 100 officers from the Seattle Police Department are suing the city and the Justice Department, claiming their department's new use-of-force policies put them in danger and violate their constitutional rights. In 2012 Seattle officials agreed to an independent monitor and court oversight of the city's police department as part of a deal with the Justice Department following a report that found officers routinely used excessive force. The civil suit, which was filed Wednesday, names Attorney General Eric Holder, the City of Seattle, Mayor Ed Murray, City Attorney Pete Holmes, and federal monitor Merrick Bob. In the suit, the...

Back in December I wrote an item entitled Darfur Warriors of the Boston Globe, describing the newspaper's call for muscular action to end ethnic strife in that region of Africa. Earlier this month, the Globe was back on the case, as I described in The Darfur Double Standard: Globe Calls for Intervention. Well, you might say, like child like parent. The New York Times, parent corporation of the Globe, is out with an editorial this morning, Talking Darfur to Death, very much along the same lines. The Times politely writes off UN expressions of concern and Arab League diplomacy. Instead,...

Let us make war on the phrase "violence doesn't solve anything." It is a lie, and anyone who utters it cannot be taken morally seriously. Take, for example, the American use of violence against the Taliban. Thanks to it, Afghani women may get an education, attend public events without a male escort and otherwise ascend above their prior status as captive animals. Thanks to American violence in Afghanistan, Islamic terror has started to decline in prestige among many Muslims who had previously romanticized it. Though many Muslims still glorify Muslims who blow themselves up in order to murder Jews and...

When veteran San Diego police Officer Phillip Bozarth shot and killed a 24-year-old man June 25, it marked the fifth person he has killed on the job in his 20-year career, police confirmed yesterday The four other shootings were ruled legal and justified – and the latest involving the death of Ricardo Morales Carbajal remains under investigation. "We don't want to see a sixth," said Mary Powers, national coordinator for the National Coalition for Police Accountability. Despite being what some might consider a cowboy cop, San Diego police officials call Bozarth one of the department's best officers. Bozarth, 42, is...

But I'm ready for any challenge and I'll answer directly. Yes, I would have voted for the authority. I believe it's the right authority for a president to have. But I would have used that authority as I have said throughout this campaign,...

FBI studies Garland police shooting 01/25/2003 From Staff Reports Garland Police Chief Larry Wilson asked the FBI on Friday to investigate his officers' fatal shooting of Jorge Cruz. The request comes in response to complaints about the department's use of force against minorities. On Wednesday, a Dallas County grand jury declined to indict the four officers who fired at Mr. Cruz on Aug. 31. The officers also have been cleared by a Garland department shooting review board. According to police reports, Mr. Cruz had threatened neighbors with a knife and attacked the officers after ignoring their commands in English...
