Unlike in Colorado, a case brought in federal court to keep former Republican president Donald Trump off of the primary and general election ballots in West Virginia was dismissed. In a memorandum opinion and order released Thursday evening, U.S. District Judge Irene C. Berger granted motions made by attorneys for Trump, Secretary of State Mac Warner and the West Virginia Republican Party to dismiss a lawsuit brought in September by Texas resident and write-in presidential candidate John Anthony Castro. Berger also ordered that Castro’s case be dismissed without prejudice, which would allow Castro to possibly file the case again during...

West Virginia’s chief elections officer, now a candidate for governor, has again said the 2020 presidential election was rigged. “The election was stolen, and it was stolen by the CIA,” Secretary of State Mac Warner, a Republican, said Thursday night during a MetroNews debate for gubernatorial candidates.

Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W.Va.) decision to retire has made the Senate landscape in 2024 even more complicated for Democrats. The party was already facing an uphill slog to hold on to its Senate majority, as it prepared to protect seats in West Virginia, Montana and Ohio — three states where the GOP nominee for president will be heavily favored. Manchin’s name on the ballot suggested a competitive race. Without him, the Senate seat seems wrapped for the GOP as a gift. Losing the state would leave no room for another loss for Democrats if they hope to keep their majority,...

Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) potential presidential bid may not just spoil the Senate Democrats’ chances of keeping the majority; many Democrats now worry that it may spoil the election in favor of former President Donald Trump. “I think it would be very, very unfortunate if Joe Manchin decided to do that,” Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) said of Manchin’s possible presidential bid. “I know he’s a supporter of President Biden and has been an important person here in the U.S. Senate in terms of getting things done. And he knows that if he were to step in [to the race] that...

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that he would consider a 2024 presidential run during an interview from NBC’s “Meet the Press” that will air Sunday. Anchor Kristen Welker said, “Let’s talk about your future, because obviously you are facing a big decision. Can you take us inside your thinking right now? Are you seriously contemplating a run for the White House?” Manchin said, “Here’s is what i’m seriously contemplating. I’ve said this clearly, people say, are you going to run? I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure, and immobilize the...

Sen. Joe Manchin announced Thursday that he wil not vie for re-election next year, making Republicans the favorites to pick up another seat in the upper chamber of Congress. Manchin (D-WV), a perennial thorn in the side of the Biden administration, would have likely faced a fierce battle against popular Republican Gov. Jim Justice had he decided to run. “I’ve made one of the toughest decisions of my life and decided that I will not be running for reelection to the United States Senate,” Manchin declared in a video posted to X. The 76-year-old senator was an increasingly isolated Democrat...

Last week, we covered how Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA), a lesser known member of the Squad, is facing a primary challenger for her response to Hamas' attack on Israel earlier this month. As has been the case with other Squad members, her response to the terrorist attack certainly leaves something to be desired. Her response to the situation hasn't gotten much better, especially since she partook in a Squad press conference last Friday to demand a "ceasefire." Lee's response may not just affect her own race, but next year's Pennsylvania Senate race where vulnerable Democratic incumbent Bob Casey, Jr. is...

A group of 26 U.S. senators said they will be introducing legislation aimed at curbing attempts by the Biden administration to mandate electric vehicle adoption by American drivers through Environmental Protection Agency regulations. West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin joined with 25 Republican senators to create the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales, or CARS, Act. The legislation was expected to be introduced Thursday, Fox News reported. The legislation is in reaction to proposed regulations announced by the EPA in April, which Fox called “the most aggressive for federal tailpile emissions ever crafted.” According to a White House statement cited by Fox,...

West Virginia Republican Gov. Jim Justice stands well ahead of Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., in the race to represent the state in the U.S. Senate, according to a recent survey. The governor outpaced the incumbent senator 13% in the latest Emerson College survey, with 41% of voters backing Justice and 28% supporting Manchin. The Democratic senator has not announced his reelection plans. Justice, meanwhile, faces a primary challenger in the form of Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., whom Manchin beat 37% to 31% in a head to head matchup. Explaining Manchin's stronger performance against Mooney seem to be split attitudes among...

In the West Virginia Republican race to succeed Gov. Jim Justice, three-term Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is leading by 11 points against House Judiciary Committee Chairman Moore Capito, according to a new poll. The poll, conducted by Americans for Prosperity, a super PAC established by the Koch network, shows Morrisey with a much more significant lead over Capito, the son of Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), since the last polling was released over the summer. According to the poll, Morrisey leads with 29%, while Capito carries 18% of those polled. Other prominent candidates in the governor's race, like Secretary of...

Doug Skaff, who for the past couple of years has served as leader of the Democratic caucus in the House of Delegates, today said he has changed his registration to Republican and will run statewide for Secretary of State. “I’m not the first person to switch parties, and I won’t be the last,” Skaff said today on MetroNews’ “Talkline.” “Let’s be honest, the Republican Party took the last two registrations by storm, but it wasn’t because 100,000 Republicans just moved to West Virginia. These were hardcore West Virginians who were pro-life, pro-gun, pro-coal, pro-gas and they all switched parties. So...

A regional effort to build out a hydrogen hub in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky will receive up to $925 million as part of the Biden Administration’s effort to decarbonize the U.S. economy. The Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (Arch2), a West Virginia-led effort that combines the production of hydrogen from natural gas with carbon capture and storage, is one of seven regional hubs that will be funded over the coming years. The administration projects the Arch2 effort will create 18,000 construction jobs and 3,000 permanent jobs. Another winner is the Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (Mach2), which envisions development...

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) stated that in order to convince people to support Ukraine funding “Democrats have to come to grips that we have to close that border down.” And urged President Joe Biden to declare a national emergency the way former President Trump did “and shut it down tight.” Manchin also stated that “asylum basically should be put on hiatus for six months or so until we can get an immigration policy that works for our country and also gives people the chance to come here the right way to take care...

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said over the weekend that he will make a decision about whether he is going to launch a third party run for president within the next three months. Speaking to Shannon Bream on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday,” Manchin asked: “Why not have options? People aren’t satisfied right now.” “A lot of people like you as an option. And you’ve said, once you make a decision, a target will be on your back,” Bream said. “So you’re waiting till the right time. But the fact is, the calendar is now going to start working against you....

Solar should be competing for sales in the marketplace, not for subsidies in Washington,' ... The Biden administration quietly issued a 59-page report outlining the current scope of federal energy-related subsidies revealed that the renewable energy sector enjoys significantly larger taxpayer backing than the fossil fuel industry. The report — authored by the Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) and published in August — represents the first of its kind since 2018. The EIA analyzed data from 2016 through 2022, and determined that, during that time period, the federal government doled out $183.3 billion in direct and mainly indirect...

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) took another swing at embattled New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez (D) on Thursday, saying he’s not interested in Menendez’s explanation. “Unless Senator Menendez is coming today to resign, I am not interested in hearing his ‘explanation’ for gold bars stashed in a mattress,” Fetterman’s statement read. “We’re past the point of his tough talk and defiance, given the scope and scale of his alleged corruption.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Gov. Jim Justice has a strong advantage over Congressman Alex Mooney in the Republican primary and an edge over incumbent Joe Manchin in a possible General Election matchup. And new polling shows that in the Republican race for governor, Delegate Moore Capito is leading a field that also includes Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, businessman Chris Miller and Secretary of State Mac Warner. Those snapshots are according to the most recent MetroNews West Virginia Poll results released this morning at the annual business summit hosted by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. The poll included...

A judge has issued a ruling confirming that the state of West Virginia can ban the dangerous abortion pill to protect women and save babies from abortions. The abortion drug manufacturer GenBioPro filed a lawsuit that challenges a ban on abortion drugs in West Virginia. GenBioPro, which manufactures the generic chemical abortion drug mifepristone, asked the court to render the state’s pro-life laws unconstitutional, claiming that Congress gave the Food and Drug Administration the power to mandate nationwide access to dangerous chemical abortions—preempting West Virginia’s duly-enacted pro-life laws that protect the lives of the unborn and mothers. But a federal...
