At the end of the great movie 'Unforgiven', William Munny (Clint Eastwood) is told that his friend and riding partner is dead, and his body is propped up in a pine box in front of the town's saloon. It is a rainy night and Munny heads into town and walks into the crowded saloon brandishing a double-barrel shotgun. He stands at the door with the shotgun at his shoulder, looking hard down the barrel. Little Bill and his gunmen are all there in the saloon, drinks in hand. They see the dangerous killer William Munny walk in, and the place grows suddenly quiet.

William Munny: "Who's the fellow owns this shit hole?"
(Nobody says a word.)

A 12-year old survivor of the alleged massacre of "innocent civilians" by U.S. Marines patrolling Haditha has admitted she had prior knowledge of the plot to detonate an IED as their convoy was passing by her house on the morning of Nov. 19, 2005.

In a CNN interview, Safa Younis - who says eight members of her family were killed by U.S. troops - recalled that she was getting ready for school as the Marine Humvee approached.

"I was planning to go to school. I was about to go out of bed. I knew the bomb would explode so I covered my ears," the youngster said, according to a CNN translator. "The bomb exploded," she explained. "The bomb struck an armored vehicle. I don't know if it was a Humvee or an armored vehicle. When the bomb exploded, they came straight to my house."

The "innocent" occupants of those houses knew about the impending deadly ambush and watched it happen. They chose to collaborate with terrorist insurgents, and those insurgents used them as human shields.

It is true, of course, that war is hell and it is tragic when civilian non-combatants are killed. But if the "innocent civilians" in those houses were going to give shelter to insurgent terrorists and allow themselves to be used as human shields as those terrorists ambushed US Marines, then maybe they should have armed themselves.

My Immigration Reform Proposal

1. BUILD long, strong, effective border fences.
2. INCREASE border patrols and assure that agents have real enforcment power. (No “catch and release”, etc.)
3. DENY illegal aliens access to any and all government services, including schools, welfare, food stamps, etc. REQUIRE mandatory, automatic deportation of any illegal alien who ATTEMPTS TO ACCESS any government service, whether such service is federal, state, or local. (Note: The only exception would be dire-emergency medical treatment, followed immediately [after the minimum amount of sufficient recovery time] by mandatory, automatic deportation.)
4. REQUIRE A MANDATORY jail sentence for any illegal alien found to be holding fraudulent identification, followed by mandatory, automatic deportation. (Note: Lengthier jail sentences would be MANDATORY for the “identity theft” of living American citizens.)
5. REQUIRE fines and criminal proceedings against any employer (including company officers and responsible hiring personnel) who knowingly (or negligently) hires and employs illegal aliens. JAIL repeat offenders.
6. “Anchor babies” (babies born to illegal alien parents) are to be DENIED citizenship, and are to be immediately deported along with their parents. (Note: This provision should be made retroactive, if possible, for existing “anchor babies”, up to an age to be debated.) In any event, under no circumstances would being the parent or guardian of an "anchor baby" confer any special consideration regarding illegal status.
7. All law enforcement officers (federal, state, or local) who IN THE COURSE OF THEIR NORMAL LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES become aware of an illegal alien’s status are REQUIRED to notify the appropriate federal authorities immediately and hold that alien in custody for up to two days (or sufficient time, to be debated, for federal authorities to take custody and deport). (Naturally, if an illegal alien is apprehended and charged with a crime, then notification and automatic deportation would occur following satisfactory disposition of the criminal case.)
8. MAKE ENGLISH THE “OFFICIAL” NATIONAL LANGUAGE and require that everyone who applies for residency status or citizenship (and their school-age minor dependents) demonstrate some level of proficiency in the national language. No United States municipality could be legally required to accomodate speakers of any foreign language.

(Note: Jail sentences required in the above provisions MUST be MANDATORY MINIMUM sentences [to be debated] in order to avoid “end runs” by liberal activist Democrat judges.)

The above provisions, if passed, would largely solve the illegal alien problem. Illegal aliens would disappear BY ATTRITION since they would be: a) unemployable without proper authorization, b) unable to access government welfare and other services, c) unable to enroll their illegal alien children in government schools, and d) unable to use the despicable “anchor baby” ploy to get special consideration and remain in the country.

Many, if not most, illegal aliens will return to their countries of origin voluntarily once it becomes clear to them that there is little reason for them to remain in the US. (Note: There is evidence that this phenomenon is already happening due to an increase in enforcement efforts, as of December, 2007.)

**** Note: No logistically burdensome and expensive “roundup” of 12 million-plus illegal aliens is required, recommended, or even necessary. Illegal aliens would disappear by ATTRITION. Therefore, the “red herring” argument that it would be “impossible to deport 12 million illegal aliens” becomes moot. ****

Meanwhile, reasonable LEGAL immigration laws (including a “guest worker” program) should be streamlined, strictly controlled, and RELENTLESSLY ENFORCED in order to address the legitimate needs of U.S. employers.

The "Global Warming" Scam

The "scientists" who perpetrated the global warming fraud approached their science in exactly the opposite manner as the approach described above. They formulated a theory based on political ideology (as well as the path of least resistance to "grant" money) and then did whatever they had to do with their data to "prove" it.

What the world has now seen with the expose of the "global warming" scam puts a new spin on the old saying: "Figures can lie and liars can figure." There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production – with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now. The regions destined to feel its impact are the great wheat-producing lands of Canada and the U.S.S.R. in the North, along with a number of marginally self-sufficient tropical areas – parts of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indochina and Indonesia – where the growing season is dependent upon the rains brought by the monsoon.

The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it. In England, farmers have seen their growing season decline by about two weeks since 1950, with a resultant overall loss in grain production estimated at up to 100,000 tons annually. During the same time, the average temperature around the equator has risen by a fraction of a degree – a fraction that in some areas can mean drought and desolation. Last April, in the most devastating outbreak of tornadoes ever recorded, 148 twisters killed more than 300 people and caused half a billion dollars’ worth of damage in 13 U.S. states.

To scientists, these seemingly disparate incidents represent the advance signs of fundamental changes in the world’s weather. The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down. Meteorologists disagree about the cause and extent of the cooling trend, as well as over its specific impact on local weather conditions. But they are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century. If the climatic change is as profound as some of the pessimists fear, the resulting famines could be catastrophic. “A major climatic change would force economic and social adjustments on a worldwide scale,” warns a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences, “because the global patterns of food production and population that have evolved are implicitly dependent on the climate of the present century.”

A survey completed last year by Dr. Murray Mitchell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals a drop of half a degree in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968. According to George Kukla of Columbia University, satellite photos indicated a sudden, large increase in Northern Hemisphere snow cover in the winter of 1971-72. And a study released last month by two NOAA scientists notes that the amount of sunshine reaching the ground in the continental U.S. diminished by 1.3% between 1964 and 1972.

To the layman, the relatively small changes in temperature and sunshine can be highly misleading. Reid Bryson of the University of Wisconsin points out that the Earth’s average temperature during the great Ice Ages was only about seven degrees lower than during its warmest eras – and that the present decline has taken the planet about a sixth of the way toward the Ice Age average. Others regard the cooling as a reversion to the “little ice age” conditions that brought bitter winters to much of Europe and northern America between 1600 and 1900 – years when the Thames used to freeze so solidly that Londoners roasted oxen on the ice and when iceboats sailed the Hudson River almost as far south as New York City.

Just what causes the onset of major and minor ice ages remains a mystery. “Our knowledge of the mechanisms of climatic change is at least as fragmentary as our data,” concedes the National Academy of Sciences report. “Not only are the basic scientific questions largely unanswered, but in many cases we do not yet know enough to pose the key questions.”

Meteorologists think that they can forecast the short-term results of the return to the norm of the last century. They begin by noting the slight drop in overall temperature that produces large numbers of pressure centers in the upper atmosphere. These break up the smooth flow of westerly winds over temperate areas. The stagnant air produced in this way causes an increase in extremes of local weather such as droughts, floods, extended dry spells, long freezes, delayed monsoons and even local temperature increases – all of which have a direct impact on food supplies.

“The world’s food-producing system,” warns Dr. James D. McQuigg of NOAA’s Center for Climatic and Environmental Assessment, “is much more sensitive to the weather variable than it was even five years ago.” Furthermore, the growth of world population and creation of new national boundaries make it impossible for starving peoples to migrate from their devastated fields, as they did during past famines.

Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve. But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.

'The Man' by Ray Bradbury

'The Man' is a simple parable involving a prophet who travels from planet to planet; his best-known appearance was on Earth roughly 2,000 years ago. The Man doesn’t appear in the story himself—instead, it’s the story of Hart, a rocket ship captain who lands on an alien world shortly after the prophet’s departure. Hart’s initial incredulity about the Man soon turns into a violent obsession, and he threatens the quaint alien villagers with violence if they do not help him locate the prophet. Hart’s tragedy is that he thinks of God as a destination, something to be found elsewhere. He doesn’t realize that wherever the Man visits, he never truly leaves:

“And he’ll go on, planet after planet, seeking and seeking, and always and always he will be an hour late, or a half hour late, or ten minutes late, or a minute late... And he will go on and on, thinking to find that very thing which he left behind here, on this planet.”
