I vote for Texas - good natural resources, plenty of acreage, and pretty decent weather in most parts. When do we all move, how do we get the leftist freaks out, when do we announce secession from the union, and will we still call it the nation of Texas?
To: sheltonmac
As for the state, there is only one, TEXAS! Y'all come on down, we have experience in beating tyrannical nations.

If Mormons can move in mass to the state of Utah and subsequently control its government1. That's en masse.
2. When the Mormons moved to Utah, it wasn't a state. It wasn't even a part of the territory of the US. (Or at least most of it wasn't.)
Considering how well the last attempt at secession worked out, you would think people would try to find some other, less suicidal way of influencing the society they live in.

Just have to relocate a few socialists from Austin, Houston and Dallas. It will be a welcome change to see them go.

Forget the Republican Party; it is a lost cause! Just the RINOS

"How long will free men tolerate ever-increasing encroachment upon their liberties? "As long as the government doesn't tax us to the point that we are unable to eak at a meager existence we will look the other way. We will pretend it only affects the bad people.
As long as we are allowed to maintain our house in the suburb, two cars in the garage, and a well kept lawn, there will be no revolution.

I thought that part of the greatness of Lee's character was that he accepted the results of the war and afterwards became a constructive and loyal U.S. citizen. Maybe the author of this article could consider emulating General Lee.

Walter Williams is usually right in economics. But some hold a somewhat differing opinion in subjects outside his expertise:

As idealistic as the concept may seem, it would not prove very practical. Assuming such secession occurs. It would first be regional--southeast, southwest, northeast, northwest. Then, individual states would break off. Before long, the result would be something resembling the Balkans of Europe--a bunch of little countries, warring against neighbors, competing for goods and services, etc. Very few of these little "countries" would have ample self-containment to be very successful. Not all states, for example, produce enough food for their own populations because not all are primarily agricultural. Then, of course, would be the greater potential for outside invasion and conquest.

Texas is great, but unfortunately I had to leave several months ago to accept a job in Illinois. Until the economy recovers in Texas a few years from now, I think I'll have to stay up here.

Thanks for the ping. Good article.
Got a pointer to the original Williams article?

you would think people would try to find some other, less suicidal way of influencing the society they live in.Those that secede don't ask for violence. The powers that be seek to quash dissent by killing those who only wish to be left alone to form their own society. Why would an attempt at secession by Texas, let's say, be justification to kill thousands of people who only wish to be left alone?

Perhaps if some of us from other states offered to swap homes with them? I'll bet there are plenty of libs in TX who would feel so much more at home here in Seattle.....especially the ones with rings in their noses.

I'm ready to go and I think we could work out a peaceful settlement with the Leftists in TX who wouldn't want to stay. Perhaps we could make a deal with N. Mexico - they get 5 libs for every 1 conservative they can find and we trade?
To: sheltonmac
I'm in! And I have to agree with the Texans. Texas would be the best place for a new nation (why did you guys join the U.S. in the first place?) I've been entertaining the idea of moving to the Port Arthur or Galveston area for some time now, just haven't talked my wife into it (she's a beach bunny from Pensacola). Any Freepers live near there? This CoonAss is really getting tired of the Great Corruption State, Louisiana.
