Sharon Doesn't Work For Bush
New York Post ^ | April 9, 2002 | JOHN PODHORETZ

Edited on 05/26/2004 5:05:43 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

April 9, 2002 -- A "DEFIANT" Israel delivers a "slap" to President Bush with its "refusal" to "obey" Bush's "insistence" - no, his "demand" - that it begin an "immediate withdrawal."

The words in quotes have all appeared in American newspapers, news-channel crawls and wire-service reports in the past two days. They indicate that the U.S. media have decided the story line ought not to be the war between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, but rather a developing rift between the United States and Israel based on Israel's recalcitrance.

Sharon should keep ignoring us and move on.

Anyone catch the Israeli parliament meeting on Cspan this morning? I caught about two minutes in a patients room. It was pretty rowdy.

SHARON DOESN'T WORK FOR BUSH

Note to John and his father Norman: Israel's ability to act independently is limited by the fact that it accepts a large amount of military aid from the USA. Remember: ANYTIME you accept federal money that there are always strings attached.

I heard on the radio that Peres said that what the Israelis did to the Palestinians was a massacre. I thought at first I heard it wrong, so I waited another 1/2 hour. Same thing.

With friends like that, Sharon doesn't NEED anymore enemies.

Might I add...would the US "withdraw" from the War on Terror if Israel "demanded" we did so? I think not. So I don't understand this whole thing. At all.

Maybe I'm not meant to, LOL....

Thirteen(?) IDF members killed today in a booby-trapped building?

Keep pressing, Israel. Bring back the light.

Its always rowdy, when I was in israel back in 91 they had people smoking on the floor on the knesset. People throwing things. It was a huge circus kind of like the whole country. Israelis use their car horns more than new yorkers too.

The American taxpayer works for Sharon! Stop all aid to both Arabs and Jews. They don't deserve our money!

This is so true. The media does this all the time. Criminy, it makes their job so much easier. Much easier to cover and report about a relational rift rather than focus on the substantive issues. I have said this before but the mainstream media has become nothing but a bunch of glorified gossip hounds. My reading of Bruni's book, Ambling Into History, only solidified this thinking of mine.

God, I hate the press.

Agreed.

But, don't we send the PLO lots of cash too?

When is the media going to pick up on the fact of the PLO's "insubordination"?

Sharon is his own man who has his own agenda. Anyone who doesn't understand that hasn't watched him for very long. (Dubya...you listening?)

One can change Sharon's timetable, but one can not change Sharon's objectives or his road map to get to his objectives.

Dubya may think he has some control in how things develop, but he is just a patsy being played like a fiddle. Events are mostly out of US control now (except for a war with Iraq). It is always a bummer to a big country when things get out of their control, they aren't used to it.

Dubya...hate to tell you...but you are mostly just along for the ride now.

"Gen. Powell, you're a military man," Russert said to the secretary of state. "When the president of the United States says, ‘withdraw without delay' and Gen. Sharon says, ‘Well, we'll begin to expedite things,' is that insubordination?"

That's one of the stupidest things Timmy has said on air. PM Sharon is the Head of State of a sovereign nation...not an American General, and as such is not subordinate to our President.

My personal belief is that W and Sharon have a complete understanding about the situation in the ME and are in agreement as to Israel's actions.

yes...and so did Israel. Hell, Israel armed the PA Police...you can tell it was a Labor Gov't that committed that crime...BTW we also send a bunch to the Egyptians too.

Lets get some facts straight here. We are giving a ton of money to Sharon and the Israeli government. This is U.S. taxpayer money. If you don't want to pay attention to us...perhaps we could give that money to a more important friend of ours, namely Mexico. Ever since the U.S.S. Liberty incident, we should have set a distance between Israel and the U.S.
