Metal Machine Music was an infamous double album of feedback and noise that Lou Reed made to get out of a record contract. Supposedly it took less time to make using loops and such than it takes to listen to!

Pfft: Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. `Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!' he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. It'd take 2 minutes to turn that into a rap song. Sure, it's missing the 4-letter-words, but I guess Tennyson just wasn't as talented.

I didn't say that Tennyson couldn't write a good rap song. After all, wasn't he a poet -- duh --? I said that it would be difficult for "any sh*thead" to do it. How about something original? What's next? Are you going to plagarize Shakespeare and call it "2 minute" rap??

Hello, Mr. Van Winkle. You will discover that a great many things have changed since you first fell asleep.

First, I plagarized nothing. I made it clear that the passage was Tennyson and it should have been obvious that it was from the famous Charge of the Light Brigade. It is rappers that plagarize. They call it "sampling".

Second, "sh!the@d" is in the eye of the beholder. One man's sh!the@d is another man's rap artist. And to yet a third man, the terms may be interchangable.

OK Amish Dude,

You win! My counterpoint sent you reeling off on an unrelated tangent, totally out of context of the original spirit of the conversation. So what is the use of responding? But here it goes, just in case you have time to check back on the original thread.

I did not accuse you of plagarizing Tennyson, but merely asked if you were going to plagarize Shakespeare in pursuit of the perfect rap song.

Someone on the original thread, speaking of writing rap music and Eminem in particular said "Any "sh*the@d" can do it". I merely responded that if it was so easy, then try it. Then you came out of orbit with a Tennyson quote and said that you could turn it into a rap song in 2 minutes. I don't think that Eminem has based any of his work on any classic Tennyson poems, and in fact, I am quite sure all his stuff is original, so my challenge to the statement that "any sh*thead can do it" still stands. Why haven't you spent your time creating an original five stanza rap song with a catchy sound and beat instead of searching through old high school literature books

On a final note, at no point in my writing did I once try to define "sh*the@d", so what was that all about? I took it to mean just "any 'ol body". How does three possible definitions help us determine if "just any 'ol body" can write rap music like Eminem??

My counterpoint sent you reeling off on an unrelated tangent

The thread had veered elsewhere since you'd left.

I did not accuse you of plagarizing Tennyson,

Liar!: Are you going to plagarize Shakespeare and call it "2 minute" rap??

On a final note, at no point in my writing did I once try to define "sh*the@d",

Well, apparently Tennyson and Shakespeare don't apply. Who does? Frost? cummings? Or do we have to eliminate all actual poets or anyone that can write poetry until we get a pool of people in which rappers are the cream?

Sounds like a bunch of sh!the@ds to me.

Wow,
What a temper!!!

You have become what you hate!! You are Eminem!

At least you proved that anyone can hurl insults and four letter words. What an accomplishment! Congrats.

Now for a critique on your rap song. It reminds me of an inner-city hip hop song. Your have caputured the essence of the african american rap experience with the shallow insults, and especially the repeat 462 times bit. So I guess that really makes you more like Snoop Dog or TuPac than Eminem. Because you see, Eminem is actually very smart, even though he is very offensive. You, apparently, are just offensive.

Here's is my attempt. It is about an imaginary intellectually lost boy from Pennsylvannia who can't control his temper.

What veered was your head, not the thread. Crashed into a wall, smashed and burned. Pitiful lump of quivering brain overstrained, stained with hate and self inflicted pain. When challenged, attack, change the subject, misread, misinterpret, misapply, miss the point, miss, miss again. Self proclaimed attitude, can't read black and white, just wants to fight, long distance, like M and M, you win with hate, now live with your shame. I'm done.

BTW, I forgive you for your direct personal attacks. Just please be a bit more obtuse in the future.

Oh, I don't hate the rappers. Not at all. But I have disdain for many. Particularly those who consider them artists or other such nonsense.

At least you proved that anyone can hurl insults and four letter words.

Not me. Read the original article. Neither 4 letter words (and I prefer the 7 letter one that begins with "dumb") nor insults originated from my mind.

Now for a critique on your rap song.

You might not have caught this, but my concern for your "thoughts" is at an all-time low. The fact that you have bothered to critique it underscores my point even further.

. . . african american rap experience . . . Snoop Dog or TuPac than Eminem. Because you see, Eminem is actually very smart,

Hmmm. I'm beginning to see the appeal of Eminem. Yesssss, he is quite different from other rappers, isn't he? Hmmm.

I'm done.

Promises, promises.

BTW, I forgive you for your direct personal attacks. Just please be a bit more obtuse in the future.

And I forgive you your (1) lies, (2) strawmen, (3) insults, (4) condescension and (5) transparent attempt to catagorize my posts or my point of view in order to make the debate more amenible to your position.

No need to thank me.

Lord Jesus, if possible, turn him around and save him dramatically as you did Saul..."

What I like about Eminem is how he cleverly puts words together to music that many people enjoy, while purposfully mocking his critics (and quoting them before they even speak), all the while causing them to talk about him and sell even more of his records.

He uses people like you... It is understandable why you despise him so.

from the Marshall Mathers LP (Criminal) (with southern accent... mocking)
Please lord this boy needs Jesus,
heal this child, help us destroy these demons
Oh and please send me a brand new car
and a prostitute while my wife's sick in the hospital

How long until someone finds something even more "despicable" than a childish curse word aimed at the wife of the vp on his new album? Hey, mabye O'Reily will to a whole show on him again! More money for Marshall.

Uhhhh, some wires seem to have gotten crossed. Sorry for whatever part I had.

I don't know Eminem and certainly don't listen to that type of music. I was just pontificating on the person mentioned--wanting them changed or out of the way of righteousness winning the day etc.

Blessings,

Although I'm not a fan of Eminem, it is funny that he pisses off so many people

It is funny, however, I've heard the newest CD, and he is going to have to answer to his 6 year old daughter eventually about why he speaks so horribly about her mother and her grandmother. If sounds like he genuinely loves his kid, he did one song for her, and one song with her on it, so why he would say such hurtful things about her mom is beyond my understanding. I think in the very least, he is in some dire needs to anger management classes.
