Another example has surfaced with the discovery of Chandra Levy’s remains, confirming once again the astonishing lunacy of security-seeking, freedom-trading twits who continuously howl and whine that their opinion should override the Constitution. Demanding that others be deprived of their right to self and family defense, they clamor that only the police and military be allowed firearms, thereby assuring the police state that will follow.

ABC’s Cokie Roberts revealed herself as a staggering tower of intellect when proclaiming how frightened she would be if a pilot with a gun started running around the cabin shooting at her and other passengers. George Stephanopolous, her co-anchor and to his credit, pointed out the absurdity of her remark stating that if the pilot was bent on destruction, why wouldn’t he just crash the plane and kill all aboard at once? I wish I could have seen that. I would have loved to have seen the expression on her face when George unleashed this basic common sense.

Obviously, Cokie would prefer that only a Sky Marshall be armed, because he would be "fully trained." Would that include all the time he spends sitting on his assets and doing nothing? And what if the Marshall flips out Coke? If a pilot can be trained to handle an airplane that weighs as much as the Statue of Liberty disconnected from its base, why couldn’t he be trained to carry and operate a one-pound gun? Cokie the genius would take a chance on one Marshall that could conceivably be overpowered in the cabin, rather than an armed pilot and copilot behind a secured door and authorized only to maintain "cockpit integrity."

Since Cokie was obviously born, raised and educated in Rush Limbaugh’s favorite town of Rio Linda [?], she is unaware that all pilots have already been trained to maintain "fuselage integrity" in the event of a crash. That means, trying to put the fuselage between immovable obstacles such as trees or buildings to save human life in such a situation.

Cokie would rather take a chance on this one Sky Marshall than, as civil aviation pilot Neal Boortz puts it, ensuring "a last line of defense." And if Cokie’s proven asinine theories are employed, then she of course would also approve of an Air Force fighter shooting down the plane and killing all aboard, as well as those on the ground, rather than allowing the Constitution’s Bill of Rights to apply.

The blatant stupidity of Cokie Roberts’ and the media’s gun hysteria are major contributory factors to the carnage of 9-11, and lends itself also to understanding how the Leftmedia’s gunphobia caused Bush, Tom "Linus and his Technicolor security blanket" Ridge, and former Waco BATF Executive gunman Tom Magaw, to tell the commercial airline pilots and the American people to go to hell regarding arming pilots. We all recall how the BATF protected us at Waco, resulting in the retaliatory bombing of the Oklahoma City Murrah Building. Joe Farrah of WorldNetDaily pointed out that Magaw issued a warning to BATF agents not to be inside federal buildings immediately before McVey, and others unknown, killed 168 innocent people. No BATF agents, the very targets of McVey’s rage, were in the building.

Where were the police and the United States Government on 9-11 if they are so highly qualified? If they are the only ones qualified in firearms, why couldn’t they protect us? If they couldn’t then, why would we conclude that their incompetence has diminished to the extent of making us all safer now?

How do gub’ment armed agencies and police stack up as the most qualified to carry weapons to protect us? Washington Police Chief Ramsey on Levy’s discovery: "The manner or cause of death is still pending." Huh? Paraphrasing him, MSNBC’s website offered on May 22: "Ramsey said police had searched 1,700 acres of the park last summer and that this particular area was so remote it had not been searched." [Emphasis added.] Obviously, the only killers encountered by these Keystone Kops drop off their victims on the front lawn of the White House.

And now, unbelievably, we have more incompetence from the FBI? My, what a surprise! Tom Ridge proclaims if we arm pilots, "we may have to arm bus drivers next." If memory serves, there have been bus incidents following 9-11. Senator Fritz Hollings proclaims arming pilots is the same as giving passengers machetes! Huh?

Doesn’t this government incompetence, ineptitude, and absurd logic frighten you? It should – it’s all about people control, stupid!

great observations and what about this obvious one? What percentage of airline pilots HAVE NOT HAD prior military experience (i.e. Navy Air, AF, etc...) in other words THEY ALREADY ARE TRAINED, KOOKIE!!! It's intelligence, STUPID

The Sky Marshals are only a last line of defense. The brunt of aircraft security responsibility will be borne by the new Federal Air Transportation Airport Security Service.

And if the sight of Federal agents wearing black jackets emblazoned with the agency logo "FATASS" doesn't make you feel safer about flying, you're beyond help.

Pukie Roberts and her husband Steve are typical left wing media pundits, no surprises here.

I do believe that Cokie missed her true calling, it had something to do with knee pads.

>>>'ABC’s Cokie Roberts revealed herself as a staggering tower of intellect when proclaiming how frightened she would be if a pilot with a gun started running around the cabin shooting at her and other passengers.'

I can just imagine hearing Cokie's response if that happened....."Oh, great! Now we'll be up here all day!.....

I've always wondered.

LOL. Deserves emphasis.

The difference between an sky marshall and a pilot is that the marshall is 'THE AUTHORITIES' while the pilot is not.

The cowing of America is the process whereby perfectly good citizens are willingly turning themselves into 'subjects' and are almost demanding that they suffer and are being dimihished and humiliated at the hands of the various 'authorities'. Please note that the 'gun control' whackos don't oppose guns per se, they are only against guns in the hands of free citizens. They would be quite confortable with 'the authorities' riding tanks on their streets. It's their neighbors' guns that offend them.

Ah, but those FATASS agents are "trained." What Cokie is really angling for is to be the pilots' "trainer." Betcha she cracks a mean whip!

This Week with the Aviation Week editor looks at the pilot in a slightly different light. A gun isn't necessary to discommode a highjacker, (pun intended). A "gentle" 1G dive and then climb will launch the "bad guy" into a "Vomit Comet" tizzy. Since abrupt maneuvers in yaw and roll could cause "pieces" to fall of the aircraft, we just have to hope that the bad guy isn't an astronaut!

Personally, I'd rather that the airliners modify the throttles. A disconnect microswitch would allow the the autopilot to take control of the engine settings. The handle and tubes that make up the throttles would disconnect. The tubes would be GUN BARRELS and the pilot would turn and blow the hijackers face off!

Roll a bunch of these cowboys off flights on a covered gurney and hold a press conference where the results of the attempt could be shown off. Pretty soon there will be nobody entering cockpits or attempting hijacking.

I must have missed that training! I was taught to land on the runway no matter the aircraft condition. Who writes this stuff?

One G is level flight, what you experience sitting in your chair typing on your key board. Did you mean zero G?

Should we invite our gun control friends to move to Tianamen (sp?) Square?

I suppose Cokie babes would prefer a "fully trained" marshal like Barbara Boxer or Dianne Fineswine?

They have been sworn in as U.S. Marshalls, you know, so THEY can carry firearms without any of the hassles they subject the rest of us "little people" to.

They do admire the Chinese commies, I'm sure. The Chinese model proves that a despotic, brutal regime does not necessarily collapse economically. Not for as long as there are lots of capitalists around willing to take advantage of cheap regimented or slave labor.
