U.N. Demands U.S Increase Foreign Aid

The U.S. ranks 21st of 22 Western nations in the percentage of national income devoted to foreign aid. The U.S. currently devotes 0.15 percent of GNP to foreign aid. The U.S. is being asked to boost this to 0.7 percent. Meeting the 0.7 percent figure requires an additional expenditure of $65 billion a year by the U.S. government.

"There are many leaders of impoverished nations who are unable to adequately fund their Swiss bank accounts due to insufficient foreign aid," said U.N. Secretary General, Kofi Annan. "They will face a humiliating retirement unbefitting a national leader if they cannot set aside at least $100 million. The United States is rich enough to take on the responsibility for seeing that these accounts are maintained at a respectable level."

Annan believes the funds needed ought to come from energy taxes on the American people. "Americans are energy gluttons," Annan said. "They are too warm in the winter and too cool in the summer. They are excessively mobile. Practically every adult owns a car. They fly about the country taking frivolous vacations when they should be working to end world hunger. Higher taxes on consumption of energy would remedy these evils."

When you factor in all the military expenditures in support of UN resolutions, we're way over the .7 percent target. Don't forget, we're in Iraq enforcing UN resolutions.

First off, look at the actual dollar amount given by the US, and we are far from 21st out of 22. Second, who does Commie Annan think he is? Demanding that we give more than all else, because we can afford to live to a standard above some of the other nations out there.. And that is not the case for all Americans. Oh, how I'd like to tell Mr. Annan where he can go, and what he can do when he gets there..

Well, sure. The U.N. needs to hijack funds from new sources. So, the Senate should help 'em out. They've done a mighty fine job on the American people...

The UN should hang it up---demanding more money. The US must throw them out---right now they want a 20 acre Manhattan park for expansion of office space . All new construction and transfers should reduce the presence of the UN to 10-20% of it's size in the US. Then we must have it dispersed around the world based upon population. Once it is out of the US---we must get the US out of the UN.
