Dear Governor Palin: Don't Blink
September 1, 2008 | Joe Cranford

Dear Governor Palin,

You know this was coming, and this is only the beginning.

First, the obvious barbs from your opponents surfaced: "Sara Palin has less experience than Obama." "She has no foreign policy experience." "John McCain is desperate." "She's the former mayor of a town of 9,000." These arguments can be batted away with reasonable ease.

But it's the charges from the left that Bristol, not you, is the mother of newborn Trig that hurt. It's very personal, not political. It's a charge would send any reasonable human into a fit of rage. Especially a good mom like you. But don't let it. You see, they don't care about the allegation; they care about your response. This is a test of temperament, not truth.

Don't blink.

Keep your eyes on the meaningful issues, not the painful distractions. Even when it's a hard attack that hits your kids, keep your head high and offer to not dignify this gutter speak with any acknowledgment.

First of all, if stories such as this ever get legs, let your surrogates chop them off at the knees. When the country sees your focus and knows that the facts are in place they'll move on. Don't blink.

Second, expect more of this. The left is desperate to stop Senator McCain and you from succeeding. They know you have thick skin so they're coming at you with verbal Husqvarnas. Stare them down. Don't blink.

Finally, they'll keep pecking at you with the trite arguments about experience. Fire back: When was the last time Senator Biden spent any appreciable amount of time in the community of a small town? How has Senator Biden demonstrated his connections to places like Wasilla AK, Wetumpka AL, Winslow AZ or Wynne AR in his 30-plus years inside Washington, DC? How can Senator Biden honestly say he's in touch with fly-over (or, in Alaska's case, "fly-short-of") country when he's remained in touch with inside-the-beltway special interests for over three decades?

Governor Palin, we're impressed by the stature of your character, the strength of your political backbone, your exceptional story and record of accomplishments, and the potential you possess to contribute to a reformed Washington. Along the way it's OK to shed a few tears and even close your eyes to the vitriolic outpouring from your adversaries.

Whatever you do, just don't blink. Keep your eyes focussed on what matters most in this political season: You role in preserving the Constitution and our great republic.

Good advice.

Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances.

She will be put through the wringer and the pressure cooker. I think she’s smart enough to know that. And I’m sure she and McCan talked about that very subject. And I’m sure she talked it over with her husband and family as she was deciding whether to take on this challenge.

People with sound values and a grounding in a strong faith tend to survive better than those who don’t. From all accounts she does have strong faith and core values, which will help her get through the next 60+ days.

It has the Obama/Carville signature all over it. John McCain took the wind out of Obama’s sails from his Denver 200 million dollar “I love Me” party. So the OBOT machine retaliated.

Obama is involved in this, but Carville, as much as I despise him, is not. David Axelrod is Obama's campaign manager. Carville isn't working for him...

By the way, from Wikipedia:

Being formidable hunters, they should be respected, as barracudas are perfectly capable of defending themselves against humans that harass them.

Good advice. We need to start a prayer thread for the McCains and the Palins. The left will seek to demoralize, and ultimately destroy them.

They (Libs), will attack Mcain's and Palin's children, spouses, family, anything. The left has not one drop of decency among them.

These despicable attacks should be revealed to the voting public- they need to see the true nature of the democrat party.

Same here. There’s no question Sarah can handle it but what about the daughter? I’m fervently praying she has the strong constitution of her parents.

In the meantime, I’m starting to write or phone each and every one of these jackals that bring her children up.

Alan Colmes stated that Palin’s child was born with Down’s Syndrome because she “didn’t take proper natal care”.

Gee, Alan. I have about 500 medical books here in my library and I have read them too. I have never, ever read that the cause of Trisomy 21 was due to failing to 'take care of herself natally". In fact I looked just tonight in several genetics books, pediatrics books and Harrisons Book of Internal Medicine, as well as Obstetrical textbooks.....none of them say that. Will you come to our next continueing medical education seminar and tell several thousand of us that you have discovered the absolute cause of Down's.

Just for your own edification, Alan, "natal care" is care at and after birth. Prenatal care is prior to birth. So how did Mrs.Palin force a third chromosome to become part of Trigs genome? Did she do that at fertilization or did she do it to about a trillion cells all at once as the baby was born (natal)?

I feel so sorry for Sarah's daughter. Not pity like she is pitiful, she isn't, she is beautiful and very likely intelligent, and probably has a good circle of friends. However, teens are so self-concious about their bodies and this kind of thing cuts deep.

Proper prenatal care means abortion to Colmes.

Proper prenatal care means abortion to Colmes.

And Colmes is such an idiot. Down's Syndrome is a genetic defect, determined AT CONCEPTION. Natal care should constitute producing the healthiest "product of conception" possible, not flushing it down the toilet (or letting it die from exposure as Obama wants).
