Did you watch the 2nd Presidential debate?
Foreign policy is critical. And one the most critical linchpins of foreign policy is the United States relationship with Israel.
That's why it was downright scary to hear Barack Obama's response to a simple question. That question, paraphrased, was "Would you defend Israel without a UN mandate?"
John McCain's answer was clear and unequivocal. Of course he would. Israel is our strongest friend.
Obama's answer? A "nuanced" string of suppositions and what if's. A meandering evasion. A non-committal response. A respect for the United Nations, but not for Israel.
My friends (*drink*), if there ever is a President Obama every nation that hates Israel...and there are many of them...will be standing in line to do their worst secure in the knowledge that President Barack Hussein Obama will not unilaterally commit the might and muscle of the United States of America to help.
I agree; Roosevelt should’ve simply turned his attention to the Japanese. However, if the Iranians declare war against the United States and take steps against us (not foreign states) then we should act.
From where I sit, radical Islam has grown in the past 30 years. If Israel is a proxy, it’s not doing a good job.
Their interests do not coincide enough with ours to ask Americans, who volunteer to support America, to risk limbs and life for it. Sorry.
Well I could get biblical on you...but I'm not sure if that would convince you either... :-)
One of the people at scripture study asked the priest if there was a devil.
I could not believe his reply, it had us all howling.
He said, "Why yes, there is a devil and he is debating John McCain right now."
I talked with Fr. after the scripture study about the video the kids made in fatigues saying, "Alpha, Omega", he was only half joking about the devil part.
You think Michelle got him a Green Card? Maybe some other color.
Which position are you advocating? US military in a foreign country is wrong or US military in a foreign country is right if its in our interests?
If the US military might with the inherent risks in blood and treasure is committed to a mission, it had better be in the US interest! Israeli support is in the US interest.
I'm half believing it...especially with the economic situation and what not...but I'll reserve judgment for a bit longer...
I don’t happen to agree with you, but I understand your reasoning.
Yes sir, Genesis 12:3
obama won’t help Israel for this country may not be here to help...
I’m not sure realpolitik is appreciated around here. Although, if you want to sell the point, perhaps you should bring up the Lavon affair, and the Israeli government honoring the surviving operatives with a medal in 2005.
Ahh..but Israel will eventually know the King of Kings, and He will make all things right.
“They are a check for the spread of radical Islam.”
BINGO!
Yhe paly sympathizers and pro-pan arabian sect doesnt get that.
Deferring to the UN= anti-Israel.
maybe but there may not be enough to make it happen?
That’s where I disagree; supporting Israel might be in our interest but it’s not axiomatic. If it were, we’d have a treaty to that effect.
Whose bible?
It’s not so much realpolitik but what’s best for the Americans who volunteer to defend America. I doubt many sign up to support foreign countries that we don’t have a treaty obligation to.
Sorry; obligation with.
I happen to agree that we shouldn’t unconditionally support Israel. But they are our ally where our interests overlap, and maybe even our proxy in some fights.
