Who Would Sign the Declaration of Independence Today? (1st Vanity)
Vanity | July 4, 2009 | Centurion 316

We all know that the signers of the Declaration of Independence put their lives and property at risk by their act of courage. The question is: who among politicians of the past 60 years would have done the same.

I can think of only two. Ronald Reagan would have signed, no doubt, on grounds of principle above personal ambitions. Harry Truman might have done, but I think that it would depend upon when in his career he was asked to do it.

Are there any others? Nominations, please.

Harry S (for nothing) Truman was a socialist imbecile who continued to rely on the communists who infiltrated our government for advice.

I believe Calvin Coolidge would have signed the Declaration, along with Ronaldo Maximus.

Who knows about the rest of them?

This misery named B. Hussein Obama would like nothing better than to rename Independence Day. As thinking Americans we have to admit that our freedoms are disappearing faster than a campaign promise.

If under the same British torment, perhaps many would.

The bigger question is who today would agree to the original constitution? Not many DemocRats, that is for sure, and that is why they lead the way in shredding it.

All those signing the Declaration were not politicians, they were business owners, farmers, entrepreneurs, military leaders, inventors, etc. I would sign it, but would give all my possessions to my husband first and live on my own, unless he'd sign it, too.

Gen. Schwarzkopf maybe Cheney, Patton, or McArther. As you can see 3 very good military people and all “leave the BS at the door” kinda of guys.

As would many who frequent Free Republic. But, I specifically asked about politicians because I thought that the consensus list would be rather small. The sad truth is that politicians have for too long put themselves above country or constituents. The sad state of current affairs is a high point to be sure, but unfortunately has been very common behavior for a long time.

Calvin Coolidge is an interesting choice and I think that you may be right. I think that its telling that you had to go outside the 60 year range to come up with another name.

Ratification of the Constitution, as written, would be impossible today.

I would as well - though today I have an interesting opportunity.

I’m a Scout Master - and we’re going to summer camp today. This article got me to print out a copy to read to my scouts tonight at the Campfire!

I think I’ll post it as well for the entire week.

It should be a night that they will remember.

Write a new Declaration of Independence and make it as treasonous and inflammatory as the original. Post it on FR and see how many will sign and how many will caution people to avoid getting on a “list” for signing.

It will make you appreciate the courage of the Signers even more.

I like to think my wife and I would sign it along with;
1.Rush
2.Ted Nugent
3.Sarah
4.My friend Barney Schultz
I know there are a lot more out there also.
Happy Independence Day!

Most of the conservative body politic in Texas would be first in line to sign. But, I would still beat them to the table. Some of us were born to defend America in what ever capacity we can, I am one born for the job of American Patriot.

The only Democrats who would sign it would be the ones who didn't read it beforehand...
