Now I know why I never have any luck in catching salmon. After watching this video i realize that I have been going about it all wrong. I usually leave my lab dog home because he just plays in the water and scares away the fish. Next time I'll bring him with and sit back with a beer as I watch him catch the salmon for me.
Follow this link to see a yellow lab catching a huge salmon
You will not be disappointed, trust me.
It is VERY cute, but I have to wonder if the salmon had been subdued somewhat (i.e. caught by the owner and spent some time out of the water for a little while), then put back into the water to make the video.
The owner just does not sound surprised enough to convince me this was a REAL out of the ordinary catch.
good find
bttt
Fun! Love that dog!
interesting
Good video. Wow.
The salmon acted pretty normal to me the way & speed it swam around trying to avoid the dog. The salmon seemed subdued after capture which may be due to the bite plus the fish looked a little dark. When salmon first leave the ocean they are bright and powerful, the longer they stay in fresh water the less energy (and taste) they have.
I agree, that was real. The guy should have kicked the salmon back.
One other point I forgot to mention with dogs & salmon is salmon poisoning. When salmon enter freshwater they pick up a bacteria. When a dog that is not immune to salmon poisoning eats or licks carcasses they can become fatally ill. Simple anti-biotic treatment cures the dog & he is then immune. There is a vaccine but I was told by a vet that a better treatment was to let the dog get sick and then treat it, as the vaccine is not a sure thing.
Wow!
We never know what can harm our animals, do we?
What about after it is cooked?
Ok.
I love labs.
Had one for years.
They never lose their playfulness.
Cooking kills the bacteria (& the protozoan that it rode in on:)
