CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Katie Couric said in an intreview that the mainstream media still has a role to play and that people want coverage with a point of view.

From PoynterOnline

When Katie Couric accepted the Alfred I. duPont award last week for her series of interviews with former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin during the 2008 presidential campaign, she said, "The much derided MSM -- main stream media -- clearly still has a role in these increasingly partisan times."

I thought from the title this was expert Couric saying people wanted Health Care coverage that has a POV. Which would be REALLY only just as stupid as what she did in fact say.

How’s that point of view reporting working out for you Katie?

Still in last place and sinking like a stone?

Katie is such a deep thinker.

she is so contemptible. why doesn’t she tell young reporters
how you really get a start, the way she did, by dating
the boss who was engaged, then married to another woman.
ask former cnn anchor, denise leclair, how she feels about
katie’s start in news.

Actually, I suppose that POV nonsense is why I don't watch Couric's show.

Nice to see her tacitly admitting finally that her "news" isn't objective, though.

If her network ran a video loop of the inside of her intestine, I would watch that rather than listen to her blather.

people want coverage with a point of view.

This may well be true. But, based on the viewership it seems safe to say that people do NOT want coverage with her point of view.

Gee, I missed her Ph.D. By what right does this sub-intellect lecture any American about anything? 15 Million a year for reading fluff and lies off a DNC teleprompter? I’m lost here. How do these cretins get elevated to such status? And by and by,...WOULD NOT HIT IT!

What about trying to be fair and balanced?

Why is it ok for the liberal point of view to be the one that is pushed by MSM?

When you see the coverage of liberal causes such as same-sex marriage, abortion right, or global warming/cap and trade, the MSM are being cheerleaders on those issues for the liberal side.

I wish I could ask Katie if it’s ok for a conservative viewpoint to be presented in the news on those issues. If she’s saying there is a place for point of view journalism, and people have differing points of view, then certainly she can’t object to conservative viewpoints being expressed.

And what about journalistic ethics, Katie? If you are a good liberal, then it’s ok to do hatchet job interviews of candidates for high office in support of the cause of liberalism? Anything to support the cause is allowable?

. . .and that people want coverage with a point of view.

Katie, Katie, Katie. . .people want unbiased coverage. If they can't have that, they will settle for hearing opposing points of view so they can make their own decisions about what to believe. They certainly don't want to be force-fed your brand of leftist drivel.

Better yet, the “coverage” of ObamaCare and its ephemeral ‘substance’ would be better served by just presenting the ‘facts’ about it, which are and always have been
elusive if not non-existent.The reality is that it was presented in one form as an over 2000 page monolith, which was intended to MAKE it unreadable, in case anyone dared to get caught in its quicksand. Lacking a bill (”OF PARTICULARS”,so to speak) anyone has read, or understood, lacking anything really concrete to talk about,(but WHEN talked about, as when the subject of death panels was brought up, THAT feature was denied up, down and sideways) there is nothing left EXCEPT a Point of View dragged out and applied to an Abstraction, which seems to be there ONLY for the purpose of creating and re-creating a flow of rhetoric between supporters and detractors.
Other than that, there really IS and never HAS BEEN a HealthCare bill, though they could always point to this massive MONUMENT IN PAPER , this Sphinx, that existed merely
to be talked AROUND, not ABOUT. For that reason alone , it should have been rejected OUT OF HAND, MONTHS AGO. But our idiot politicians seemed to think it needed to be discussed
‘on its own terms’, whatever those were.

O’Reilly has a POV and does not pretend to be e newscaster..number 1 ratings on TV. Couic has a POV and tries poorly to sell that as objective reporting... ratings in the toilet. TV audiences vote with their remotes and are turning off Couric and the rest of the MSM for a reason.
