BATFE Believes M4 Airsoft Guns Can Be Converted To Bullet Firing Full Automatic Rifles

United States Customs seized 30 M4 look alike Airsoft rifles, pictured left, in Tacoma. The Feds claim they can be easily be converted to actually shoot full automatic with live ammunition. BATFE says that parts could be switched out quickly to allow them to fire live ammunition. This is sure to cause huge differences of opinion over whether the Airsoft gun can actually be easily converted to actually fire 5.56mm ammunition on full automatic.

These toy rifles look like M4’s. They do not have the bright orange tips to show they are toys. BATFE Agents say that they feel like and weigh approximately the same as a real M4. They apparently have been available for sale in the USA under the brand name TTI M4 CQBR (WE Tech) Gas Blow Back Airsoft Rifle.

The seized toy guns were labeled as “Toys and Parts” and came from a Taiwan manufacturer. They were designed to shoot Airsoft pellets and had no serial numbers. Of course, toys normally don’t have them. They do look very realistic and they accept detachable Airsoft M4 lookalike magazines, and the user can load the toy with Airsoft pellets.

The government claims that the shipment arrived without the proper shipping documents. They entered the country in October, and there has been an ongoing investigation.

Here’s the sales ad product description for the Toy Rifle that sells for about $400.00 in the USA.

I can see making a mistake in visual identification.
Airsoft guns, especially the high-end Japanese stuff, are designed to look and feel as close to the real thing as possible. Shooting a kid with an airsoft gun is a perfectly logical mistake.

However, confusing the function and potential of these is just stupid.

$400 is cheap compared to the $800 stuff (”Maru”, I think) that the Japanese LOVE. They’ll accept most real M4 accessories (scopes, night vision, grips, etc.).

Remember that the Japanese cannot own the real thing, so they indulge themselves. And a lot of Americans and Europeans, too.

These are fantastic weapons that are great for training without using the high-cost of live ammo!

It sounds like the ATF has found a way to ban all firearms.Just make a claim they can easily be converted to fully automatic weapons.

So what do you have to replace to get it to fire real ammo? The barrel, receiver and the magazine? What's left other than the stock?

Is this like the computer upgrade where you disconnect the power cord from the computer, throw away the computer and put in a new one, but claim that it is just a parts upgrade because you kept the cord? I've don't those to avoid idiots in accounting at some places where you just claim to be buying a few upgrade parts like the motherboard, CPU, case, disk drive, DVD drive and power supply, but didn't want to have to justify a capital purchase of a whole new computer.

You could never get them to fire the real thing.
They only look and feel like the real thing, but they’re actually electrically powered with a lot of plastic. The lower receiver is mostly motors, gears and batteries and the upper has no gas system and couldn’t be modified for a cartridge.

Now, Britain has a problem where metal replicas are bored out to fire real ammo, but it’s dangerous than hell.

I would love to see the BATFE test one of these with a real 5.56 Nato round. Lets take a look at the physics:-

The airsoft gun fires a .2gr plastic BB pellet at about 480fps, using a CO2 gas pulse of about 15 to 50 psi.

A real AR-15 fires a 55gr FMJ bullet at about 3,200 fps, using a controlled gunpowder explosion at chamber pressures of about 60,000psi.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BATFE imbeciles, do the test and fire a 5.56 NATO round from this toy gun. Also make sure that you have a nice group of observers tightly grouped around the gun to experience the results.

I'd love to see them test fire one, as long as I'm standing behind a concrete wall!

BATF is now infected with the Brady Batshat disease! They have a political agenda driving them!
