VANITY: I HATE FREE Roaming CATS
SandRat

Posted on 04/10/2010 3:50:39 PM PDT by SandRat

I've used commercial cat repellent, cayenne pepper, and now just put out an electronic device that's supposed to detect motion and emit an ultrasonic sound to repel them.

I'm furious, I spend 2 wasted hours every Saturday to just clean up the cat scat in my front yard.

Any suggestions out in Freeperland for chasing away the cats without hurting them that I haven't already thought of.

Hmm, see if you can borrow a neighbor’s big dog, the bigger the better. The dog will view the cat droppings as yummies and will gladly clean them up for you.

Don't get a dog. If you can't stand cat poop from a hundred stray cats you won't be able to take the normal output from owning a single average-sized dog... and you will definitely not like the tunneling, slobber, and dog odor that comes with it.

Are the cats in your area liberal? That could be the problem. If they've given up the traditional laborious and tidy feline burial methods in favor of freely and proudly crapping all over everyone else's property, you've got Democats.

And if you've got a bad case of Democats, you can be sure you've also got a Democ Rats, as Democats will not congregate en masse around an area unless someone is handing out free food, and free food that is wasted- when it is free it is always wasted- also attracts Demo Rats. Unlike conservative freelines, Democats do not eat their own, so Democ Rats will thrive unchecked, sometimes getting into other people's attics where they will quickly chew up the infrastructure and urinate all over anything of value. Excess free food also draws in other vermin, such as hairy reidcoons & gavel-footed pelossums, some of the most prolific party poopers around, who NEVER clean up their own messes.

I did the same thing to a neighbor that was allowing their pet to poop in my yard after asking them several times to keep their animal out of my yard or at least clean up after it. The guy had the audacity to chew me out for doing it, so I told him to keep their darned animal out of my yard and the problem would be solved (i.e. no more dog poop on their stairs from letting their dog poop on my lawn and leaving it there every single day multiple times a day).

Some people are just morons and don’t care or don’t have any common courtesy. These people got kicked out of their home because they didn’t make payments, so I don’t have the problem anymore, but the owner of the home has been finding dog poop for the last 4 weeks - he says every time he thinks he has found all of it, more just seems to show up. real classy people these neighbors were... boy am I glad they’re gone!

I have heard that you wash your dog with tomato juice to get the skunk scent off but I don't know if that is true. Our dogs are house dogs but they love to chase and catch and eat squirrels, rabbits and rats. I expect the same behavior if a skunk gets in the back yard.

I figured she HATED me being married.

HA! You're probably right, she was jealous and showing her displeasure that she was no longer going to be "top cat".

See my post #218 above. Dawn dishwashing liquid works best. Skunks spray an oily substance. That’s why Dawn is used on wildlife when they have a close encounter with an oil slick.

Last night I smelled the skunk on the back side of the house, drifting up from a ravine. I got my husband to bring home one of his automatic cameras (skunk cam he he). I am going to put it up and try to figure out where the skunk is coming from. I have a Havaheart trap but not sure what I'll do if I catch it, can't very well shoot it right here in the middle of Houston even with a 22. What did you do with yours?

I tend to agree with reply #126. If you're spending 2 hours a day cleaning up feces, I think you're dealing with something more than just a cat(s).

Now here's an idea---- you could do a little each day instead of letting it collect for a whole week! Might make your job a little easier.

So, you don’t really hate the cats, who are just being cats, you hate that the neighbor lets them roam free and doesn’t listen.

The point is he should not have to do it at all. Cat owners should keep their cats on THEIR property. If they don’t then their cats should die just like feral cats.

I’d say he hates the cat cabals... you know, the ones that form and insist on taking over the neighborhood, over the years, I’ve watched it happen.

A good cat cabal can easily deposit 2 or more hours of cabal $hit per day. Especially in Coastal SE TX.

Unless your sure its cat poo, racoon poo is almost black, smaller than a medium size dog poo. They are night hunters and if you got a lot of them, they might be part of the problem..just one more thought to add to the 200 you already have... GG

get some cat traps from the local shelter and catch them and turn them in. It’s probably a death sentence, but when you don’t have a choice...

It's a tragedy that these creatures were left to fend for themselves in the first place. Diseases, bloody fights, ticks, fleas, unfettered reproduction, exposure to bad weather, unreliable food or clean water available...all that because some people just wont be bothered to take care of their own pets. If these are your neighbour's pets, you should let him/her know that you will be trapping them and taking them to the pound for their own welfare. Even if they are put down and not adopted out, they will be better cared for.

Please don't shoot them or hurt them! They would more than likely love to have a warm, clean bed, good food and water and affection, but it was humans who released them in the first place. They are just trying to survive. Be kind!
