This is how corrupt government officials turn ordinary, harmless citizens into "hardened" criminals. Truly beyond words. Sad to say, a traveler might actually be treated more fairly in Russia now. (for video click on red YouTube link top page)

This has been brewing for years, and inherent in the field of Law enforcement. Sadly, instead of being checked, by an aware and Patriotic public, we’ve allowed the guard dogs to morph into the wolves feeding off the flock. This has got to STOP, and NOW.

The guy sounds appalled that he and his wife weren’t racially profiled and let through without a hassle. I am too. I could tell by his voice alone that he was a white guy from Canada. Meaning....um....[checking my handy dandy pocket threat matrix]...white guy, wife, Canada....nope....not a threat.

(Hint: Pull over the Muslims from the middle east and Asia for further questions.)

Sorry, but the BCE folks are in the right here, even if the first guy was a little too abrupt and curt.

This Canadian was deliberately trying to start a fight and make an issue. He got what he deserved. When you enter the USA, you play by our rules and you answer the questions without the attitude and the smart-ass responses. If you think these guys were nasty to him, you should try that with the Canadians when entering their country.

These guys are trying to protect our country. If you think their job is to be a Welcome Wagon for Canadian a$$holes, spend a day with them at the border and see what crap they have to put up with.

The good news here is that this guy and his wife are now on the list and will be denied entry into the United States from now on. Good riddance to them. Maybe their story will straighten out other Canadians coming here with a chip on their shoulders.

Dang.
I think at that point I’d demand to either be arrested-&-charged or let go; I’ll be honest, the ‘detained’ status where you’re in legal limbo scares the hell outta me.

I’ve been through Customs in a lot of countries throughout Europe and back to the US. The US and UK customs people were by far the worst.

Seems to me this guy was offered plenty of chances to calm down and kept mouthing off. Getting sent to secondary is not uncommon. It's happened to me coming and going.

I had one Canadian Customs Officer ask me if I was trying to move to Canada because I had too much stuff in my car. It doesn't have to be a big deal.

Nothing corrupt here..you answer the questions and don’t talk back. They have been hard on the border for years and it doesn’t need changed IMO.

The primary officer was a jerk. So was the traveller. A bad attitude will get you no where in these situations.

When the secondary interview took place, his attitude got worse. I blame the traveller not the officers. If you want to travel into the US, answer the questions. I call it the "yes sir, no sir, three bags fulls sir" routine. Real easy.

The Canadian was definitely challenging the first border agent in his replies to the border agent. When asked which specific store in the mall he was going to, he should have answered, "We plan to go to the mall to walk around in the mall and then decide which stores to go into to shop." "We haven't decided on specific stores in the mall we want to go to yet."

That might have been all the questions other than, "For how long do you plan to stay in the United States ?", and "When you leave the United States, do you plan to leave at this entry point ?" and "Do you plan to exit the US to go back to Canada ?".

The Canadian was also confrontational to the person doing the interview. The Canadian told his wife who came over to interrupt the agent interviewing the Canadian male at least six or seven times to, "Sit down." while inside the office. The Canadian further exacerbated the interview by repeating his confrontational and challenging questions to the border agent including, "What are you going to do, shoot me ?" several times. That in of itself is a threat. I believe the Canadian was goading the border officers to escalate the interview to the next level. The interviews went through several levels, from outside through the car window to inside the office with several border agents to the next level of an arrest.

In my opinion, both of the Canadians were wrong. The Canadian wife's hysterical screeching most definitely did not help the situation.

Entering the US is a privilege and not a right. The US has borders on both the North and the South that define the US. Abide by the laws and you may be given the privilege to enter the US.

It might be a good idea for an individual with a personality like his to take a tranquilizer before crossing the border. No, on second thought, THAT WOULD BE A REALLY BAD IDEA (if it weren't prescribed!)

The Canadian man was obnoxious. He never shut up the whole time. He was treated too kindly by the Border Agents.

Whatever. Guy was at a border crossing. Doesn’t matter if it is U.S., Mexico or Chile.

You just cooperate with the guys and they stop interviewing you.

You are at the international welcome center for checking out bad guys and a bad attitude doesn’t help.

Why don’t you try that with a TSA agent in Philadelphia.

I think whoever the canadian is, on the recording, is a prick and I would hold him and his wife all day, going over their car with a fine tooth comb and maybe even an axe pick.

The guy is a jerk. Cross a border and answer the questions asked, do not act as if the question is idiotic, do not argue and demand to know the reason for the questions.

FYI everyone this audio is edited. The part where they start yelling is a definite splice. I’ve a notion that the Canadian’s threat has been edited out.

I had a very interesting border crossing recently. I was driving a friend of mine who had to pick up supplies inside Canada and we went across at Sumas. When we came back across, even though the supplies we had with us were listed on a certain type of paper which we thought was right because a Customs Broker had been called...Long story, but we tried to cross back into the USA at Sumas and they said we didn’t have the right paperwork and needed to drive to Blaine where there were Customs Brokers who were open. We did not know the name of the correct broker and my friend’s Canadian partner was off playing bridge and had his phone turned off.

When we got to Blaine we had to park our vehicle on the Canadian side, walk to the US side and report, then around and around in the dark, walking from Canada to USA looking for the broker. It was a huge mess. We did luck out and find the right broker but it took us hours.

When we finally got our papers in order and were back at the USA side, a young CBP agent said he would show us outside where to go to get our vehicle xrayed. When we were halfway there he turned to me with a twinkle in his eye and said something like “Well, you got your one-time exemption....unless you LIED.” I looked at the twinkle and I took my right hand and unconciously whacked him on his arm. And then I KNEW. I had just assaulted an OFFICER! I told him I didn’t mean it and he said he had expected me to do it actually.

When I gave the xray guy our papers he told us to go over and sit on a bench and then come back in and pay our fine. I could not imagine what kind of fine this could be, since we had already paid our fees for the supplies.

When I went back after the vehicle was xrayed the CBP guy said we were free to go. He said he would waive the fine, even though we were the ones who had ASSAULTED the officer, RIGHT? He had been teasing us as well. He knew we had been there for about 7 hours going round and round in no man’s land trying to get home. My friend had just had major surgery, which is why I was driving her on her errand. She probably thinks I’m a true nut.

I can laugh about it now but it sure was stupid of me to let myself whack the guy like that!

Anyway, my observation of the border is that lately if you are bringing back commercial goods they want any extra excise tax badly to help fund the Obama BIG Gov.
