In an interview with ABC News, former Atlanta mayor and Civil Rights legend Andrew Young was asked what he thought about the tea party movement:
[H]ell all but tell you its one sign the country hasnt reached a post-racial era.
Without making a moral judgment about it, lets just say ethno-centrism runs so deep in America that we are hardly beyond this, he said .
The tea party is motivated by a nativism an appeal to the good old days and people who are anxious about change and want to go back to the way they would like to think things were.(continued)

Try Constitution, racist ahole.
Still repeating the Obama talking points.
I thought this was the John Edwards Andrew Young saying this!! Thank God it isn’t!
motivated by “patriotism”
Hmm. For me, the fact that jerks like Young reflexively play the race card to demonize their political opponents is a sign that we haven't reached a post-racial era.
Yeah...
You know what Mr. Young? Racism is now the province of two kinds of people. Whack-job Real right-wing extremists like Aryan Nation and the American Nazi Party, and most liberals.
So much of the race-baiting hypersensitivity and knee-jerk over-reactionism comes now from Liberals in the Race Industry that it’s nearly their exclusive province.
The rest of us “Normals” in the Center, and Conservatives are bored to tears with the cheap race hatred being sold by the Race Industry Demagogues. We have been for years, and have been more that ready to “get over it,” and “get on with it (life),” that we wonder why your stuck peddling the obsolete past.
Lift your eyes and your mind.
And he knows this how?
He is so smart! I didnt know this about myself.
All this time I thought I just wanted to keep more of my money in my pocket and send less to the government.
How naive I was.
That 68 year old Andrew Young still comes up first on a google search, but when you type the name in the window, all kinds of searches relating to John Edwards pop up.
By getting into the news every now and then with some outrageous comment, that old Andrew Young keeps the number 1 place, which must be important to him.
Dear Mr. Young:
“Nativism” isn’t a BAD thing!!!!!
And Andrew Young is motivated by CORRUPTION, PERSONAL GAIN AND OPPORTUNISM!
So why should I care what Andrew Young thinks, does or says?
Any Questions?
And African American voting is motivated by........??? And Andrew Young’s voting is motivated by cocaine??? Phony b*stard...
If you believe in constitutional government, you are most probably not a Democrat.
And if you aren't obsessed by race, you almost certainly are not a Democrat.
Andrew, you’re an idiot and your race has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of competent black Conservative Americans. Most Democrat Americans of ALL colors are freeloaders and useless as teats on a bull and you know it. The US is BROKE because of too many freeloaders. What a dumbazz.
In 1957, Young moved to New York City to accept a job with the National Council of Churches. However, as the Civil Rights Movement gained momentum, Young decided that his place was back in the South. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and again worked on drives to register black voters.
Young opposed the Vietnam War,helped enact legislation that established a U.S. Institute for peace
In 1977, President Jimmy Carter appointed Young to serve as Ambassador to the UN, the first African-American to serve in the position. Young’s controversial statements made headlines almost from the start. In August 1979, he appeared on Meet the Press and said that Israel was “stubborn and intransigent.” Young met secretly, apparently in violation of American policy, with representatives of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which culminated in Carter asking for Young’s resignation.
Young led a delegation to report on Nike operations in Vietnam. Anti-sweatshop activists derided the report as a whitewash and raised concerns that Nike was trading on Young’s background as a civil-rights activist to improve Nike’s corporate image.
Working Families for Wal-Mart, a purported grassroots organization started and funded by Wal-Mart, was headed by Young. Young created a controversy during an interview with the Los Angeles Sentinel. When asked about Walmart hurting independent businesses, he said that, “But you see, those are the people who have been overcharging us selling us stale bread and bad meat and wilted vegetables... I think they’ve ripped off our communities. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it’s Arabs. Very few black people own these stores”
