Joe Biden Echoes Sarah Palin: “Tea Party Not Racist”

United States Vice President Joe Biden, a Democrat, seems to be joining the choir led by Sarah Palin, a longtime Republican and Tea Party supporter, in saying that the Tea Party, as an organization, is not racist. But Biden acknowledges that some of the comments that have appeared at protests are “unfortunate.”

Biden was responding to a question by ABC News correspondent Jake Tapper, who cited the NAACP’s recent condemnation of what NAACP delegates call, “racist elements” within the Tea Party.”

Tapper asked Biden, “Do you think elements of the Tea Party are racist?”

“Well, the truth is that at least elements that were involved with some of the Tea Party folks have expressed racist views. But, I don’t think, I wouldn’t characterize the Tea Party as racist. There are individuals who are either members of, or on the periphery of some of their things, their — their protests — that have expressed really unfortunate comments,” the vice president said Sunday on ABC News’s “This Week.”

Acknowledging alleged racist incidents, Biden added, “But I don’t believe, the president doesn’t believe, that the Tea Party is a, is a racist organization. We don’t believe that. Very conservative. Very different views on government and a whole lot of things, but it is not a racist organization.”

The NAACP says some Tea Party supporters are mischaracterizing their stand, saying the NAACP is not condemning the entire Tea Party, but wants the Tea Party to publicly disavow the racists on its periphery, who are showing up to the protests with racist signage. On its website, the NAACP points out numerous photos that show racist signage brought to Tea Party rallies by some people. The signage is questionable. It appears that some people, who may be concerned about a number of important issues such as the health care bill, taxation, larger government, etc., may be using old-school racist stereotypes to make their points about those issues. Such latent racism brings up further questions such as: If the kind of latent racism or racism mixed up with political statements that are showing up in some signage is allowed to stand, then how much farther will the racism go? Will it lead to violence? While there are racists in every group, could there be something about the Tea Party in particular that is emboldening America’s racists and/or bringing them farther out of the woodwork? Exactly how much racist signage is at Tea Party rallies? Is it a very small amount? Or is there more of it than the Tea Party wants to admit? If so, is there some kind of trend with it, or continual thread, or does it show up frequently? Does this signage represent what the Tea Party as an organization stands for? If not, then why do Tea Party leaders allow it, or not at least condemn it?

“We have no problem with the Tea Party. We have a problem with the Tea Party tolerating racists in their ranks,” NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous said.

Joe Biden Echoes Sarah Palin: “Tea Party Not Racist”

She had him at "Hi, Joe. Can I call ya Joe?"

Biden knows very well that his Democrats were the very people who were teaching everybody in the country to portray the President as a chimpanzee.

So far Republicans have not succumbed to the bait ~

Joe waits ~ he's a patient man ~ he imagines Republicans are just like Democrats, albeit without tails.

“We have no problem with the Tea Party. We have a problem with the Tea Party tolerating racists in their ranks,” NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous said.

Yeah right you lying sack of sh*t.

But this is attention-getting for a more important reason. This is the first example of backpedaling, from this or any other similar race-pimping organization, that I have ever seen or heard.

Something is happening. There must be a rather large ominous shadow gliding silently under the ice...

Since stupid Joe wants to talk about this, lets see how willing he is to talk about voter intimidation that actually matters.

I think the ominous shadow is a story about voter intimidation that was starting to attach itself directly to the oval office when the NAACP decided to pass their resolution out of the blue.

He noticed when the NAACP got hammered last week for its stupid attack and, for once in his life, Joe made a smart decision to take a detour around this tar-baby of an issue.

This speaks volumes about the score between the Tea Parties and those who oppose them.

The Tea Parties are beginning to gain some real momentum!

He probably figures he’s not long in this job so he’s trying to pad his resume.

"...the NAACP is not condemning the entire Tea Party, but wants the Tea Party to publicly disavow the racists on its periphery..."

This is similar to the old trap question, "Do you still beat your wife?"

For the Tea Parties to disavow the alleged racists in their midst, would be to admit to the underlying and unspoken charge that the Tea Parties are essentially racist in nature.

To not disavow the alleged racists in their midst, can be (and will be) seen as an admission of guilt by association, and a tacit support of white racists.

It doesn't seem to matter that there's been no evidence presented to substantiate the charge that the Tea Parties have white racists on their periphery.

I see that the article mentions some examples of racist signs carried by Tea Party protesters posted on the NAACP website. Well, I'm not going to give the NAACP the dignity of a visit, but I'll posit that what they posted is pretty thin gruel, and not clear evidence of racism.

What's stunning about this whole story is the stark hypocrisy of an organization that is race-based, calling a loosely confederated political protest movement "racist", on the slimmest of evidence.

Is the NAACP going to disavow the racists who they're closely connected to, such as the New Black Panther Party, or the Nation of Islam?

I highly doubt it.

Is anyone in the press going to call them out on that hypocrisy?

Nope.

That bothers me too, Windflier. It’s heads I win, tails you lose. And this ultimatum the NAACP issues is done with a ‘generous’ flourish because they are adopting a more reasonable tone. Very stealthy and I suspect, hard to deflect. It really is the modern ‘Are you still beating your wife.’ I saw the Tea Party formally end association with the Tea Party Express yesterday (a freeped post) after demanding that the Tea Party Express formally disavow a speaker (was it Josh Martin) recorded for having made ‘controversial’ remarks. The Tea Party Express declined and the Tea Party cast them off for it. They should have done that before, of course, but it then furthers the appearance of a hasty or self conscious ‘purge’ of racism that NAACP is pointing to.
IT’s also a ‘reply’ of sorts to our objection to having Robert Byrd in congress - the Dems always insist they represent minorities and we would point in horror at the ex-Klansman and say “Well then repudiate and get rid of THAT THING” over there!” They never did and yet they were able to claim the ‘high ground’ of racial equality.

“Something is happening. There must be a rather large ominous shadow gliding silently under the ice...”

Creepy, if highly effective, description of what I think is happening but wasn’t articulate enough to express! Love it!
Maybe it is the Black Panther case or some other racial issue that mirrors the accusations. By that I mean, whatever the Administration or the NAACP or both is about to be connected to, their reply will be to ‘disavow’ and ‘marginalize’ or claim as fringe and say ‘just as the tea party has their racist fringe we have ours.’ Similar to the ‘under the bus’ technique of the church Obama attended and the racist reverend he ‘disavowed’. Its amazing that Obama was able to ‘disavow’ the race baiting church and pastor after a few decades of ‘devotion’ to them.

I wonder if it’s Breitbart? He recently called the NAACP and told them ‘where to go’ and said he had tables of racism from a NAACP dinner. The question is - why has Breitbart never come forward with them before now? Perhaps Breitbart is waiting to get closer to the Nov. elections. Perhaps the NAACP and the Obama administration don’t know what Breitbart has or how it will be used and they are bracing. Has Obama or his official minions attended NAACP functions lately, perhaps a dinner? :)

The left has been able to get away with their shameless record of actual racism and hypocrisy because the right has allowed them to. There is no other reason for it. Very few Republicans have dared to face them and denounce their lies and their horrible track record on human and civil rights.

Until conservatives and Republicans find their backbones and are willing to stare down the lying scum and call them liars to their faces, the Big Lie will continue.
