The Colbert Disaster

I actually like Stephen Colbert. He is nowhere as funny as Jon Stewart, but he has his moments.

But unlike Stewart, he does often have a tin ear. Remember the Journalist banquet when Colbert bashed Bush? It simply was not funny.

Today, Colbert had an even worse moment.

What Democrat Zoe Lofgren was thinking when she invited Colbert, in character no less, to a Congressional meeting is beyond me. It is an insane idea to begin with: bring in a political satirist, doing his shtick in front of an official meeting of Congress? You might as well have Katy Perry come in scantily clad testifying on pre-K educational tools.

I’m sure he fit right in with the comedians who were presiding over the committee hearings.

None of that matters.

His appearance before Congress was meant to distract attention from Christopher Coates appearance before the US Commission on Civil Rights about Eric Holder's racism in law enforcement.

Was Colbert a replacement for Lindsay Lohan who had other things to do today?

It was a stunt to distract from the U.S. Justice Dept case where the DOJ supports black racism against white.

Just like EVERY TV network that runs “stupid white guy” commercials. And Hollywoods “evil white guy” movies.

24x7 propaganda.

LOL! Sorta like Teddy Kennedy giving lectures on drunk driving, or fidelity, or working hard in college, or... (boy, he WAS an endless supply of topics, I do kinda miss that).

Not to put too fine a point on it, but those who preside over the committees these days are clowns, not comedians.

Megyn Kelly estimated the cost to the tax-payers (that would be us) was $125K.

Republicans should invite Chris Rock.

Count me as someone who NEVER liked Colbert or Leibowitz, AKA John Stewart (fake name, fake news). How can someone like mokery of Conservatives and like someone who delivers fake news at the expense of the truth?

I scratch my head wondering why some of my fellow Conservatives are attracted in ANY WAY to this garbage?

I wonder if his appearance was deliberately timed to coincide with the Coates testimony...or it was just a coincidence. They may have assumed the media would ignore Coates anyway.

I don't think it's a tin ear. I think he's got a little Andy Kaufman in him, and really isn't afraid to come off like a jerk in the pursuit of performance-art style comedy.

I give him credit for what he did today. They gave him an opening and he made them pay for it. I'm surprised actually. A partisan would have been all serious, ala Michael J Fox. Instead, Colbert made them look like complete idiots.

Yes, while not always politically parallel, I watch because of the Harold (Clayton ) Lloyd in him.
