I Probably Think Atheists Are Stupid
The Looking Spoon ^ | 12-23-10 | Jared H. McAndersen

Posted on 12/23/2010 4:08:30 PM PST by The Looking Spoon

In light of Britain's Atheist Bus campaign this is probably a good time to mention I have always been a fan of the notion that I don't have enough faith to be atheist....

Apparently atheists don't have enough faith to be atheists either. There's probably no god?!? Does that mean there probably is a God?

This sets up an interesting conundrum for atheist crusaders. If they are "probably right" about there being no God then everything will go black and when we die existence for us will cease to be.

If they are "probably wrong" and there is a God then what do they think will happen to them when they have to face Him in the next life?

Basically, they're damned if they don't, and they be damned if anyone could get them to "do."

By the way, I probably think atheist are stupid.

I would also say that it's most certainly true with a high degree of probability that "probably" is code for "definitely." Its also true with definite degree of probability that "stupid" is also meant to mean "seriously screwed."

They don't believe in God, so they see no need for religion, which prompts them to start an atheist cult so they can tell the world they're "probably" right...

Meanwhile, all people of faith are the logically bankrupt ones in this equation?

How does anyone get this way? Were these people tied to a chair and fed a constant diet of paint chips and helium?

Oh, I'm sorry, am I being ridiuclous?

By the way what is it that atheists think we are consumed by that they need to tell us to "stop worrying" Because of their belief that God is in control eople of faith are truly some of the most worry free people there are.

When anyone assumes you're something that you're not they're reallly projecting their own issues on to you. Without exception the non-religious people in my life are among the most miserable people I personally know. They can't enjoy their life because they get hung up on every little thing that goes wrong in it.

They sweat the small stuff because they don't think there is anything to look forward to after this life. So they want to get while the gettin' is good, and they're never satisfied. They don't know what people of faith know...nothing material in this life can provide permanent or lasting happiness better than faithfulness to God.

This Christmas will be spent as it should be, celebrating the birth of the Son of God, and I'll be doing so happily, because believing in God makes my life more enjoyable.

I'm not going to worry about people who spend their lives WORRIED about making sure people knew that life PROBABLY has no point.

Honestly atheists, I don't care what you want to believe...but please just go find a dark sound-proof closet that you can "play dead" in, and stop trying to be a bummer to people who want to play in the light.

----------

On a side note, I thought this was a pretty brilliant retort from Neil Stevens over at Red State, I don't think they'd take it well...

Atheists are probably as stupid as we probably think, more or less.

You.. you.. can’t say that! How dare you say that atheists are stupid!

Why, every one knows atheists are smarter than everybody else, especially those superstitious peasants who talk of...a God!!?

Richard Dawkins, that most tolerant of atheists, says that atheists should be known as “brights”, just as homosexuals are known as “gays”. All this in the interests of building a better, decent, compassionate and inclusive world!

Meanwhile, a very Merry Christmas to all, whether they got a problem with that or not. Jesus is Lord!

:^)

My grandfather was a life-long self-proclaimed atheist*. And he was a very smart guy. A ship captain, etc. He left us at age 101.

*Grandpa changed his mind about the atheist thing about 5 minutes before he died. Like I said, smart guy...

An agnostic would make many of these same allusions, in fact I often have. But I’m usually only arguing that Christians and atheists are both arguing equally unprovable propositions...hence my inability to stop questioning.

I too count myself an agnostic but the difference between the religious of any stripe and atheists is that atheists are asserting a null hypothesis which is a logical fallacy. The Christian or Jew asserts the existence of something and it would be proven should their deity appear. The null hypothesis can never be proven.

It should be pointed out that there's a difference between positive and negative atheism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_atheism

Positive atheism is a term popularly used to describe the form of atheism that maintains that "There is at least one god" is a false statement. Negative atheism refers to any other type of non-theism, wherein a person does not believe any deities exist, but does not claim that same statement is false.

I hate to disturb the obvious levity you are trying to interject here, and truly, those who deny the hand of The Creator are a really funny (albeit unwittingly) lot.

But think for just a minute. They tell you to deny God and then “enjoy your life.” There is complex sophistry at work here.

First the notion the belief in God necessitates misery in one’s life. What does that tell us about the conscience of the people making that statement. Are they contending that true enjoyment can be found only in either immoral or amoral acts?

Or are they telling us that all joy would escape them if their action in this life were subject to the scrutiny of a just Creator?

More than anything, it speaks to the poor, inadequate way the Christian message is being delivered to the folks who started this campaign. Seems to me like the promise of eternal life and bliss would make any but the most perverse joyful at the prospect.

In fact, I can think of no better way to remove all the joy than to contemplate the bleak prospect of a Godless void after the end of this mortal life.

So, as an agnostic, you know that one side will never be able to prove its theory and that the other side, despite generations of efforts, is still unable to prove it’s contentions. This is why we agnostics exist.

God either exists or doesn’t, independent of debates between atheists and religious. All they can do is change people’s opinions, they cannot affect the ultimate reality.

I think the atheists’ interest in “converting” people proves their atheism is a religion to them.

My guess is that your dilemma is as much one of ‘what’ as it is of ‘why’.

Hmm, that is sound philosophy, as for the premise of the thread, I am constantly reminded how irrational Atheists can be, if there “is no God” then why all of the evangelizing about there being no “God”?

Logically they may as well be proclaiming there are no Smurfs and Smurf Village is a “fairy tale”./

Behind door number 1 is Jesus and heaven, or nothing.
Behind door number 2 is the devil and hell, or nothing.
Which door are you going to pick?
