The bleeding hearts at NPR (funded by you) are worried that Americans are celebrating the death of Osama Bin Laden (world hide and seek champion 2001-2011). Is there moral philosophical justification for rejoicing over the demise of someone like bin Laden? the article asks, the argument seems to be that no, indeed there is not. In fact the article goes so far as to draw parallels between those celebrating Bin Ladens death, and those that danced on the streets of Gaza after the 9/11 attacks. Here are a few simple reasons why the good folks at NPR do not know what they are talking about:
1. There is nothing wrong with celebrating justice. Bin Laden is a mass murderer whose innumerable crimes went unpunished for decades. Now the survivors of his atrocities can sleep knowing justice has been done, and the dead can rest in peace.
2. There is nothing wrong with celebrating peace. When Hitler stopped sucking oxygen 65 years ago, people all over the world celebrated, they did so because they knew that his death was a precursor for peace. With Bin Laden gone, our troops can come home sooner, and countless lives on both sides can be spared.
3. There is nothing wrong with celebrating victory. Osama was first and foremost a symbol of a virulent genocidal ideology that encourages its followers to murder and subjugate the rest of humanity. The killing of Osama is a symbolic victory for the western ideals of liberty, democracy, justice, and human rights.
So in conclusion, Osamas demise is a victory for peace, justice, and western ideals, not just the death of some some murdering lunatic. Americans are celebrating this symbolic victory, not gloating over the death of an evil man. The US even went so far as to allow Osama a Muslim funeral before putting his body to rest at the bottom of the ocean. This was done not because Osama deserves an ounce of respect, but because we respect ourselves, and do no lower ourselves to the level of the animals we fight. America is not celebrating death, we are celebrating life.
I'd agree if you include all mosques built in the last 200 yr.
Yes it is wrong to celibate the killing. But it is not wrong to say thank you to the ones who did the killing. The man earned his fate but celebrating his death seams same as the Muslims did on 9/11. I know there is a difference but celebrating this and the terror war continues with new perpetrators of evil is wrong.
Here’s a chance for President Obama showcase his legendary mastery of the art of diplomacy by mending fences with the the locals in Abbottabad, while bringing long coveted diversity to Pakistan in one brilliant stroke.
All this can be accomplished with the construction of a “Ground Zero Church” for the people of Abbottabad. The Presidential entourage could include Hillary Clinton, brought there expressly to break ground within 100 feet of Osama bin Laden’s Abbottabad compound. This recently vacated facility would then be used to house Hillary, along with personal assistant Huma Abedin and the rest of the Presidential entourage.
Our military and intelligence operatives should celebrate their skill and performance. It must be good for morale.
Americans should be heartened W's promise on 9/20/01, "We will not tire. We will not falter. We will not fail," has been kept by his successor.
I am not celebrating. I am remembering but I am also watching. I will not be swept up by momentary ebullience and take my eyes off the domestic policy debate and destructive proposals.
Today we had Timothy Geithner quietly offer to use "bookkeeping maneuvers" to allow the government to keep boring past the mid-month deadline.
"Bookkeeping maneuvers," people! 'Eye on the ball!
Obama will leverage his 30 point polling bump as a weapon to break the backs of adults in congress and ramrod his fiscal agenda through. It's already happening with his "unity" happy talk and his visit campaign stop at "Ground Zero" on Thursday.
I believe you're right. Remember when the cheering died down in "Wargames?"
Major Lem: [holding a telephone] General, it's the president.
McKittrick: What are you... what are you going to tell him?
General Beringer: I'm ordering our bombers back to fail-safe. We might have to go through this thing after all.
Did I need to add: “If given a choice?”
Of course not. Only complete namby pamby tools think so.
That’s exactly what should have been done with him.
Hung by a long rope from the Statue of Liberty.
Until the birds picked him clean.
Uhhh... let me think...
No.
;-\
That’s great. Beck does know how to make a subtle point. And, if the king of grand conspiracies thinks OBL is dead who am I, a mere government paranoid, to disagree.
Your suspicions of this regime are well founded. REGARDLESS of the issue...
WHEN THE WICKED PERISH, THERE ARE SHOUTS OF JOY! (Proverbs 11:10)
It is always good to rejoice and Praise God when He delivers
us from our enemies. That doesn’t mean we are rejoicing that
someone has died. We are thanking God for His protection. Also...
there is a difference between murder and justice.
America needs to feel good about ourselves. This is the moment. Sheesh!
God is a Just God.
“When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; But when they perish,
the righteous increase.” —Proverbs 28:28—
