Hat tip to Adobe expert and author Mara Zebest for inquiring about the Chris Matthews ad. The ad was also mentioned on Rush Limbaugh's radio show today. This is not the first time Chris Matthews suggested Obama was born overseas. It was in 2007 that Chris Matthews reported on the air that Obama was a Muslim and born in Indonesia. It's also not the first mainstream media outlet to scrub information about Obama. Fox's Bill O'Reilly scrubbed a segment about Obama's social security number.

Awww... such a pity. If you were holding your breath we wouldn't have to hear from you.

“Sometimes I think the critics of the president are just clearly unfair when they say he doesn't love this country,” says Chris Matthews, anchor of MSNBC’s “Hardball” program in one of the “Lean Forward” ads directed by Spike Lee.
“And here's a guy of mixed background, and he said ‘Only in this country, my country, is this story possible.’ I think that was the greatest testament to American exceptionalism. I don't think that you can say that in Japan or in China. You can't go these countries and become Chinese.”
Then while pointing to the White House in the background, Matthews concludes by saying, “And look where he is.”
3/4 of the way down the transcript
Yes, it is there. I viewed it myself. Anyone wanting to see it needs to click on the "more text" button at the bottom of the initial load, then a whole lot more text shows up and the quote does indeed says:
"But didnt Hillary dump on Obama a few days ago for playing up his Indonesian roots? So, what is she up to here? Is she pushing how great he is for having been born in Indonesia, or what, or simply reminding everybody about his background, his Islamic background? "
Now I have to go back and find those @ssholes I was arguing with (you know what bunch i'm talking about) and ADD this to the list of proof that Obama was misleading a lot of people about his origins.
Drip... Drip... Drip...
I don’t know about anyone else, but that whole “lean forward” thing strikes this poster as the single creepiest, most blatantly partisan liberal thing I have ever seen, on any network.
Ever.
Why not just put a donkey on the screen?
“Now I have to go back and find those @ssholes I was arguing with (you know what bunch i’m talking about) and ADD this to the list of proof that Obama was misleading a lot of people about his origins.”
Having citations proving that birthers lied about Chris Matthews reporting helps you how?
“But didnt Hillary dump on Obama a few days ago for playing up his Indonesian roots? So, what is she up to here? Is she pushing how great he is for having been born in Indonesia, or what, or simply reminding everybody about his background, his Islamic background?” - Chris Matthews December 18th, 2007

Who’s lying?
Tom1776 asked: “Whos lying?”
Well who I said or course. Did you try reading the article on which we are commenting?
Come again? Please explain this quantum leap from the evidence of what Chris Mathews said December 18 2007 on MSNBC's website, to the conclusion of "proving that birthers lied"?
How does something Christ Mathews said back then "prove" anyone but he or whomever told him that Obama was "born" in Indonesia, lied?
To reiterate, It is on MSNBC's FREAKIN website! How is ANYONE other than them responsible for that content?
“Come again? Please explain this quantum leap from the evidence of what Chris Mathews said December 18 2007 on MSNBC’s website, to the conclusion of “proving that birthers lied”?”
Sigh. One more time: Try reading the article. It’s right there above: “It was in 2007 that Chris Matthews reported on the air that Obama was a Muslim and born in Indonesia.” Now we have a citation of the actual quote of Chris Matthews and find that the article’s reporting was false, to the surprise of no one sane.
What part is false? On the MSNBC link, Chis Matthews says he (referring to Obama) was born in Indonesia, and that he has an Islamic background. Is there some nuance that I am just not grasping?
At any rate, for the purpose of my previous argument, nuance doesn't matter. All that matters is dates and claims. The Claim that Obama was foreign born in 2007 by a leftwing nutjob Democrat partisan former assistant to the speaker of the House "Tip" O'Neal (The worst @sshole Democrat congressman in History) pretty much supports my claim that the "Birthers" Didn't start the rumor that Obama was "foreign born". There are about 4 documented references to Obama being foreign born prior to 2008, and this latest discovered one by Chris Matthews just reinforces the point.

The Claim that Obama was foreign born in 2007 by a leftwing nutjob Democrat partisan former assistant to the speaker of the House ‘Tip’ O’Neal (The worst @sshole Democrat congressman in History) pretty much supports my claim that the ‘Birthers” Didn’t start the rumor that Obama was ‘foreign’ born’’”
No, DiogenesLamp, that was not your claim here. You said you would, “ADD this to the list of proof that Obama was misleading a lot of people about his origins”. Chris Matthews asking about what Hillary Clinton could be insinuating is proof of no such thing. It does, on the other hand, prove that the article’s reporting is false.
I "claimed" that I was going to add this piece of evidence that "birthers" didn't start the rumor that Obama was foreign born to the other pieces of evidence that demonstrate "birthers" didn't start the rumor that Obama was foreign born, and I have.
You said you would, ADD this to the list of proof that Obama was misleading a lot of people about his origins.
See? You DID know what I "Claimed." Are you arguing that the source of this information is someone other than Obama? That's a Novel Idea. Who might that have been?
Chris Matthews asking about what Hillary Clinton could be insinuating is proof of no such thing.
Hillary is insinuating nothing. Chris Matthews is flat out saying that Obama was born in Indonesia and he has an Islamic background. He asks if Hillary was going to use the fact of his birth in Indonesia and his Islamic background against him. It does not imply that Hillary is the source of this information, it implies that this information is widely known and inquires whether his political opponent is going to attempt to implement the "dirty tactic" (implied) against him. Chris Matthews states these claims "matter of factly".
It does, on the other hand, prove that the articles reporting is false.
To quote Inigo Montoya, " You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
What is the "falsiety" of which you keep referring, but provide no comprehensible example?
Lol! Post of the day; best use of a pic I’ve ever seen.
I've seen that video myself with Alan Keyes and Barrack and he does say that. When I tried to find it again, of course, it was gone. So don't think scrubbing isn't going on just because you don't think it is. And when did Alan Keyes say he has no recollection of it? Gotta link??
“I ‘claimed’ that I was going to add this piece of evidence that ‘birthers’ didn’t start the rumor that Obama was foreign born to the other pieces of evidence that demonstrate ‘birthers’ didn’t start the rumor that Obama was foreign born, and I have.”
No DiogenesLamp, that is not what you claimed here. You claimed exactly what I said you did: “that Obama was misleading a lot of people about his origins”, and you falsely implied that the quote of Matthews was some kind of evidence of that.
Do you even care whether what you write is true?
DiogenesLamp wrote: “Hillary is insinuating nothing. Chris Matthews is flat out saying that Obama was born in Indonesia and he has an Islamic background.”
And then we check the actual citation and — oh look — Chris Matthews really was asking about what Hillary was insinuating, just as BladeBryan said. What the article outright claimed: that in 2007 Chris Matthews reported on the air that Obama was a Muslim, not so much.

So again, I have to wonder: Having citations proving that birthers lied about Chris Matthews reporting helps you how?
In order to prove a falsehood you have to show that any misstated facts are intentional. If you do not believe Matthews comments regarding Obama's "Indonesian birth" did not originate from Obama, where do you think they came from? As for myself, I have little doubt that they DID originate from Obama, but if I am mistaken about this, I am still not falsely implying anything.
Do you even care whether what you write is true?
More than you do.
And then we check the actual citation and oh look Chris Matthews really was asking about what Hillary was insinuating, just as BladeBryan said.
Hold on a minute! What is this talking about yourself in the third person? Are you like a team or something? That would certainly explain why one of you doesn't seem to understand what the previous version of you wrote. :)
Addressing the meat of your comment, the text clearly states that Mathews is inquiring (of a Hillary supporter) if Hillary is going to make an issue of Obama's "Indonesian birth." Nothing implies that Hillary is insinuating anything. Is English not your first language? Read it again.
"But didnt Hillary dump on Obama a few days ago for playing up his Indonesian roots? So, what is she up to here? Is she pushing how great he is for having been born in Indonesia, or what, or simply reminding everybody about his background, his Islamic background?
Both comments are mentioned matter of factly; nothing to show Hillary INSINUATED anything. The implied context is that both Hillary AND Matthews simply regarded it as a accepted fact (At this time) that Obama was born in Indonesia.
Since you have persisted in drawing attention to this issue, It has just occurred to me that Mathews is referring to something Hillary said regarding Baracks' "Indonesian birth." If that be the case, we might be able to search and find what it is that Hillary supposedly said about his "Indonesian birth. " I might find another gem of a quote. Thanks!
What the article outright claimed: that in 2007 Chris Matthews reported on the air that Obama was a Muslim, not so much. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22326842/#.TkW6g4KP_7c
Yeah, learn English or something. Make sure the other "blades bryan" are up to speed as well.
