THE COMING WAVE

(An Interview With Mother Abigail)

I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you—shelter From the storm”

The last time he posted was in July of 2012. You might have a long wait for a reply...

Your credibility just went out the window.

Are you serious? You're responding to a poster that hasn't been around here since 2012..............Sheesh!

LOL...maybe it wasn’t just that poster’s credibility that ‘went out the window’, eight years ago ;-)

Ranks right up there with the FReeper who maintains a blog about China. He readily admits to once working for a tip top secret non government agency and having alien probes inserted in his brain to make him super smart......

She was a retired CDC scientist who had studied both Ebola and influenza. She made some predictions about Ebola that proved accurate some months later so that inclined us to believe that she was in fact a retired CDC scientist.

It was her belief that the human population is every bit as likely to experience an exponential population boom and bust as every other species. We have had the boom. She expected a bust is coming.

Her main interest here was following reports of flu outbreaks. She considered hybrid flu to be the disease most likely to deliver a near-extinction blow to the world population. This is due to the virulence of hybrid flu and the ease and speed that it can spread. Hybrid flus are “swine flu” or “bird flu”, animal flus that have crossed with human flu. 1918 was one of those.

I don’t recall her saying any of that stuff. She had a high regard for her old employer the CDC, itself a gov’t agency. My memory is that she thought they were doing the best job that they could.

You’re welcome. I was intrigued by her posts early on, and recall when she said that Ebola was most likely spread by fruit bats, and that there was a particular cave that would be an epicenter for those bats. That was well before that information was released to the news media, so I figured she was the real deal.

Everyone here was interested in Ebola because of its scare factor and the high mortality rate. She wasn’t all that concerned because it isn’t especially easy to catch. If you do catch it you’re in big trouble, but it isn’t airborn and highly infectious like the flu.

Her big interest at the time was probably a bird flu outbreak. She was using internet reports to track it. It was from her posts that I learned that it’s the hybrid flu that really scares the CDC. The hybrids don’t just kill the weak, they kill the young and strong too by making their immune systems go berserk. You can literally drown in your antibodies. “A cytokine storm”. In 1918 people would die within hours of developing symptoms.

Flu is one of the most easily transmitted of diseases and it mutates all the time. That’s why the flu vaccines are hit or miss, it changes so fast. And if an especially virulent hybrid pops up it can be expected to be a crowd killer.

That’s interesting.

The way they talk about Ebola, it’s easy to catch and a huge risk. They don’t hype the hybrid flus like they did with that.

I’ve heard of the cytokine storm and know enough about immune function to be aware of how it works.

Mr mm and I have bought a house out in the country, more than we already are, and I am a bit of a prepper at heart. I like to garden and can and I do all my shopping at off hours as much as possible. I watch the weather and so don’t wait until the last minute to stock up on stuff for a one day snowstorm.

If we had to hole up, we could easily do it for several weeks. and when we get to the new locale, we’ll be in even better shape that way.

People catch Ebola when they get a lot of infected blood on themselves and have an open cut. Hunters who are skinning and butchering “bushmeat” get it. People who are caring for Ebola victims and who are not careful about exposure to blood- of course Ebola patients do bleed a lot. And people who are preparing Ebola dead for burial. But just being in the room with someone who has Ebola isn’t a big risk.

Contrast that to influenza. People with the flu are shedding the virus when simply breathing. You don’t even have to cough or sneeze to spread it.

How many years later? So where is she today?

I’ve wondered that too. Google was no help, assuming that is his real name.

Her last post was maybe 2012. She had told us that she was retired from the CDC. She could have passed away. Or simply found another site more dedicated to her interest in tracking disease outbreaks. Hard to say.

From the writer of this interview of Mother Abigal, posted back in 2011:

“For those of you new to Free Republic, this short work is the story of one of the most famous posters in the history of this web site.

In 2003 she took over this site for 11 days and changed the way we interact with our world.

This is the first three chapters - over the next few days I will post the entire work.

History is our friend.”

Yes, history is our friend. I will be re-reading this in view of current events.
