Tebow Critics Get "Tebotomy." No Fair Praying?
JoeClarke.Net ^ | 1.8/2012 | JoeClarke.Net

I'm not a big time football fan, even though I played my fair share of football back in the day. What a thrilling end to the Denver - Pittsburgh game when Saint Tebow threw the game winning, overtime pass to the similarly remarkable Demaryius Thomas.

Just as interesting as the game itself has been the media's game of trashing Tim Tebow for his praying and showing "excessive celebration" on the field by kneeling on the turf, poining his fingers up to the Lord, and other Christian confessions.

The media has lightened up a bit after seeing and believing Tim's talent, but the agnostic jock wonks who hated Rush Limbaugh and Dennis Miller for their conservative stances seemed all too anxious to pile on Mr. Tebow.

Here are a few highlights of journalists and jocks who have gotten their heads handed to them (call it a Tebotomy) after another miraculous win by the Denver Broncos:

Rick Snyder, sports writer for the Washington Examiner "Tebow Time Is About To Expire"

Rabbi Joshua Hammerman in the Jewish Week "If Tebow wins you will see an emboldening to burn mosques and bash gays.

Bill Maher of HBO Real Time tweeted "Wow Jesus just f---d Tim Tebow real bad. . . " I faxed HBO on that one, and there has been a boycott of HBO initiated.

Keith Olbermann Countdown To No Ratings on the Al Gore cable channel defended Maher, of course.

Baltimore Ravens Linebacker Terrell Suggs suggests that Tebow prays too much, and "I don't feel comfortable I gotta pray "Oh God, please, save me again."

Detroit Linebacker Stephen Tulloch mocked Tebow in a tweet for his "Tebowing," and performed a mock Tebow during a Detroit Lion game recently. Note: the Lions just lost their chance to advance in the NFL playoffs.

Saturday Night Live mocked Christ (worse than mocking Tebow) last week when "Jesus" entered into the Bronco locker room and suggested that Tebow study the play book more, and pray less.

Sky Jethani, religious writer at the Huffington Post (Yes, they have a Religion section) accused Tebow of being a hypocrite for praying in public, referencing a piece by gay activist Andrew Sullivan.

Andrew Sullivan, flamboyant gay writer, at the Daily Beast accused Tebow of being a hypocrite because he prays in public, contrary to Jesus warnings to "pray in private" in the Sermon on the Mount. Note to Andrew Sullivan: Sodomy is not a Biblical blessing, contrary to what the Episcopalians and Methodists say, and the Book of Acts in the New Testament mentions public prayer 16 times. I think they understood the commands of Jesus a bit more accurately than Andrew Sullivan.

It really hit home when a former fellow Denver quarterback, Chris Plummer, advised Tebow not to be so flamboyant in expressing his faith

Amidst all this, Tim Tebow has never bashed his critics. In fact, Tim Tebow's response to Chris (named after somebody named Christ, maybe?) was this:

"If you're married, and you have a wife, and you really love your wife, is it good enough to only say to your wife 'I love her' the day you get married? Or should you tell her every single day when you wake up and every opportunity?
"And that's how I feel about my relationship with Jesus Christ is that it is the most important thing in my life. So any time I get an opportunity to tell him that I love him or given an opportunity to shout him out on national TV, I'm gonna take that opportunity. And so I look at it as a relationship that I have with him that I want to give him the honor and glory anytime I have the opportunity. And then right after I give him the honor and glory, I always try to give my teammates the honor and glory.
"And that's how it works because Christ comes first in my life, and then my family, and then my teammates. I respect Jake's opinion, and I really appreciate his compliment of calling me a winner. But I feel like anytime I get the opportunity to give the Lord some praise, he is due for it." Tim Tebow. Amen, brother!!

He looked pretty good throwing the ball today, except for a few plays. I’ve been saying he should improve steadily. You’d think professional coaches could get a kid with all the tools passing pretty well before long.

Absolutely dirty hit by James “I don’t care if I hurt anyone” Harrison, destroying the knee of Broncos top receiver. James Harrison should be removed from the league. Even high school players know how to tackle/wrap up correctly.

Clearly backward pass, refs missed an obvious fumble...given field position likely a 7 point swing.

Multiple face masks on Tim Tebow never called. Broncos would have a really good chance to win in regulation if called.

I have to admit, this couldn’t have been more perfect, an early commanding lead, followed by a comeback from the Steelers. Tiebow haters were probably talking considerable smack. Then Pow touchdown. I bet Maher sucked his coke spoon up his nose so hard it shot out his butt.

If Tebow was Muslim and got on all 4’s, anyone think the announcers would dare to mock him?

Love that he threw for 316.

Christopher Plummer was in Sound of Music, or some other movie.

LOL - Yeah, that Christopher Plumber guy was in "The Sound of Music". He managed to get into other movies here and there, but nothing anyone ever heard of./s

Most recently he was in a little known film called "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". He has been working continuously since 1953.

The whining pundit class feels more comfortable seeing chest-pounding “LOOK AT ME” antics rather than Tebow’s humble prayer moment.

What Tebow does to these people is force them to think about their own approach to life... it’s making them squirm.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez prays in the center of the field before the start of every game.

Tebow has plaed some games very well. The MSM hates Tebow or anthing god. They like islam, totalitarianism. I think obama supporters should be sent to gitmo, no food, their salvation direction right in their faces.

It’s customary for Christians to keep visible prayer in private forums, which to argue super pickily, a football game is (you have to get a ticket and go there, or else tune in coverage on TV). The biblical concern is, of course, who is getting the glory — is it you for praying or is it God for being prayed to? The Lord is not interested in the former.

Tebow Time: his favorite Bible verse is John 3:16. He threw for 316 yards in today’s OT win, averaging 31.6 yards per completion. Proof?

Or will all the athiests in the media whine about that, too?

Just what exactly is it that Mr. Tebow is doing that burns their sorry @sses so badly? Could be any worse than what they do on any given Saturday night.

He's praying and giving thanks. Huge foul in their books.

I am a Charger fan, but I am rooting for the Broncos! They appear to be doing something pretty special here.... The focus is all on Tim, but his recievers and that defense are working their butts off too and finding ways to win. (Unlike my Chargers, who seem to go out of their way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory).

Go Tim!

If Tebow made Obama a god and prayed to him the LSM wouldn’t be able to kiss up to Tebow fast enough.

Supposedly Wayne Rooney is a staunch catholic, although you’d never know it from his off-field behavior.

Exactly! Praise, however, is good both privately and publicly.

Several references to praise, which I do not know chapter and verse offhand, say make a joyful noise unto the Lord; and that praise is a sweet savor to the Lord, that we should witness to others. Also many, many admonitions to give praise unto the Lord.

Is it true that he threw for 316 yards?

Yes, Tebow threw for 316 yards? (as in John 3:16)

Also, Rothlesberger threw his INT on 3rd and 16.....hmmm....

oh, and Tebow's average yards per completion were 31.6.....

Proves Jesus is a Bronco's fan. /s

Random events cluster, but this is kewl.

I have to see my Jewish podiatrist every couple of months. He’s an Ohio State grad and has very little in his life beyond Buckeye football. He was treating me a couple of weeks ago, while Tebowmania was just taking hold. While he was wielding his scalpel near my foot, he said, “you know, if I see any more Tebow miracles, I might consider converting.” Except for our intra-Big-10 rivalry, he’s a good friend of mine, and I am seriously considering emailing him to see if he’s still open to converting.
