On Saturday Mitt Romney gave 50 bucks to an unemployed Ruth Williams, 55, of Colombia, who started volunteering in his campaign offices. NBC News analysts thought the entire episode embodied racial stereotypes... and ripped Mitt Romney for helping out the poor.

Ripped for a private charitable act. No good deed goes unpunished. Why would anyone run for president?

I an as sickened as anybody about Mittens getting the nomination because its ‘his turn’,but the establishment pubs made sure there were no viable conservative candidates in a position to win. And,of course,we’ll hold our noses and vote for Romney because the alternative is unthinkable.

“cannot buy a vote for $60”...yes you can, for a pack of smokes in Milwaukee.
That was proven in 2008 by ACORN.

There is no correlation. Some people just want to express their hatred toward Mitt Romney at every opportunity, even if they have to devise complicated conspiracy theories or make things up.This is actually getting to the point of psychosis, and I don't think it is hurting Romney.

And,of course, well hold our noses and vote for Romney because the alternative is unthinkable.I've had to do that every election since I voted for Reagan. I did not vote for GWB in either primary; I voted for Alan Keyes. I voted for Buchanan in the previous two primaries. There are no perfect candidates, including the great President Reagan. I voted for Reagan in the primary and I love him but he fell short in some areas also. IMHO Mitt Romney was the best of the field in 2008 and again in 2012. He is not perfect but he certainly understands the Free Market and loves America. Although Romney is not perfect I will not have to hold my nose to vote for him. Remember Ann Coulter's "Get Drunk and Vote for McCain" movement? For those folks who do hate Mitt, now might be the time for a beer run ;)

I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that
no one here wants to see Mitt Romney win the GOP nomination. But voluntarily helping out a person in need (especially one that you know) is not something to be mocked. Liberals do that instinctively because they abhor volunteerism and private charity, in favor of involuntary taxation and government dependency.
But the episode also demonstrates Mitt's poor judgment - one does such things privately, or at the very least, without calling undue attention to one's self.

Sounds like a very smart move by Mittens. Obama has just lost the black vote. Very well executed Republican strategy!

Also, calling her a mascot? Jeez. Minor point: I don't see a quote from Willard calling her a "mascot" - the bimbo on NBC is the one who did that.

Isn’t it obvious that if a white Republican helps an unemployed black woman then they are racist?
Conversely, if a white Republican does NOT help an unemployed black woman, then they are racist.

Didn't she say it was a divine intervention.
Personally, he could have ask an aide of his team, to have done this privately. He does looks a bit out of touch, very embarrassing for all involved.
To: Christie at the beach
I agree...definitely looked out of touch and like the massa handing out some coins.
Candidates should all know enough to tell the person to see a campaign aide designated for this purpose.

I don’t criticize Mitt Romney for an act of charity. It is commendable. However, I do question his wisdom in doing it publicly. He has to know that such an act will be seen by most as nothing more than a cheap, cynical political ploy.
