Last year Feb. 25, 2011: Gingrich says Allen West would be considered as his running mate

Florida Republican Rep. Allen West may be the Republican candidate for vice president in 2012.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said at a Republican Palm Beach County fundraiser that if he won the Republican presidential nomination, he would strongly consider a Floridian as his running mate.

“Allen West would certainly be someone you’d look at,” Gingrich told NBC affiliate WPTV.

West responded, “We don’t know what the future holds, but I’m always willing to serve my country.”

“I have to pray about it and I have to clear it with my wife and two daughters,” he added. “I never thought that seven years ago when I retired here I’d be a United States Congressman.” [ For complete coverage of politics and policy, go to Yahoo! Politics ]

Elected in the November midterm election, West is one of two Republican African-Americans serving in Congress. He has rapidly emerged as a national conservative star.

Just 'spose that we all went balls-out for Ron Paul until the GOP party-convention. What influence do you believe "we" would have on delibeations?

Consider, after Newt gets the nod - despite efforts of all "true conservatives" and those considering themeselves to be TEA paryt members (if not afficianados) going balls-out for Ron Paul, what's going to come out of the GOP DreamTeam's mouths?

Imagine if what I'm saying actually carries weight of substance - and not merely water - what discourse will be ongoing just prior to the convention? So Newt "mentions" the "idea" of Col. West being his running-mate just prior to the third primary. Who do you think he's cow-toeing to?

If we try to play the media game of "electability", we're going to lose. Its the primaries for crying out loud! What difference does it make if but for "We The People" to let our voice heard; the "people" don't actually vote for President do they? We're letting "them" know that if any candidate wants to be in "our" party; or do the candidates let us know we can be in "their" party? It is my exhortation that "we" espouse Ron Paul for every good reason that is known. If "we" want to be instrumental in the remaking of the American conservative polical scene that's what we need to do.

The GOP powers-that-be need to understand that the TEA party remains, and that there is a vast conservative constituency that is absolutely 100% behind Ron Paul's Constitutional principles / philosphy (even if they only agree with the 80% of it as it specifically relates to domestic issues).

What I bet will happen in a Ron Paul administration is the we the people will see Congress grow some 'nads.

I'm saying that if the specious crap is trimmed from Ron Paul's political ideology - akin to the allowances requested for any other "conservative" candidate - "WE" are going to like a lot of a plausible Ron Paul administration.

Ron Paul will never be elected. SO "we" need to scare the powers-that-be there might be a 'revolt' in his favor.

Newt won't pick a Veep from another southern state that adjoins his own. He won't pick Rubio either. He's just throwing Floridian West's name out right now because his next hurdle is the Florida primary and it makes political good sense to do so.

wow that burst my happiness bubble. You may be correct but is was sure nice to dream, if only for a moment! Vickie

My assertion can be made with impugnity now: woman can not hold executive office w/out an ammendment to the Constitution.
Art II, section. 1.

The Executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He [editorial: mine] shall hold his [editorial: mine] office during the term of four years...

Very good points, friend. Now you have me thinking about “whom” you are thinking about as Newt's possible choice!

I could see the addition of Allen West to the ticket putting an end to the DEM/Media constant claim of “racism” for every negative comment concerning Obama’s policies. The groundwork has already been laid for that to continue. Allen would certainly call them out on it at every turn!

Fine, but I was thinking DeMint, Rubio, or Cain. But Allen west will be ok.

Bachmann is out of the question because she has beef with Gingrich and rightly so. In the heat of a campaign everyone tries to do what they can to win. Bachmann felt like Gingrich was in the way near the end of her campaign. Then she called him a frugal socialist.

Kasich is a good Conservative but he is having trouble in his own state right now. His approval rating has been down since July.

No, Newt needs to make a statement with his VP pick so as to form an unbeatable dynamic duo. An ethnic choice like Susanna Martinez from NM or Rubio or best of all, Allen West could be winners.

The black part is/should be only incidental to having a very knowledgeable military person and citizen who probably knows where the Obama military worms are. These enabling worms must be exposed and removed for the good of the USA.

HMMM, could really be a team that would be very hard to beat. And make it very hard for the race-baters to continue playing their dirty game against the GOP with the distinguished Col. West in the VP position.

While I really like West, a better combo for veep would be in my mind, Condi Rice. First female/African American to be VP and a "shoe in" for being the next POTUS as well as having unimpeachable foreign relations/policy creds.

As soon as I read “the black part” I stopped reading.

There is NO “black part” conservative.

You either appreciate my tag-line or you don’t; I do NOT believe your inappreciativeness has anything to do with your skin’s melanin content.

You could have 1000 years of Micronesia, e.g. Bali, heritage AFAIC. You’re interpretation of Art. II. Sect. 1., par. 1 speaks volumes: does it restrict the office to particular gender? By the same token: you could come out of the Congo.

I believe that most troops serving under Col. West would agree that he was a “bang-up” leader.

What all of “us” should know is that the demise of the Roman empire was in part due to a decline in Roman military ablity. What did Schwartzkoff think ‘bout West’s ass?

Sixties is NOT old, guys! Not nowadays, anyway. I think Newt, like many men, looks better today than when he was younger (and rather dorky:-)

Now, Ron Paul (who’s pushing 80) - THAT’S old (for a new president)!

We certainly need to be mindful of what is to come beyond 8 years....someone with the caliber of Allen West would certainly be a positive for the country.

I believe there were a bunch of “alleged Bush” supporters that got banned.

Does one want to run around with being a Bush supprter on their collar?

What a bunch of losers...
