During the past week a number of Operation Fast and Furious watchers have been celebrating the notion that Congressman Darrell Issas February 14th letter to Eric Holder represents a last chance, comply or else, final offer to the gangster Attorney General. (1)
Unfortunately, buying into such wishful thinking will result in nothing but disappointment as the Congressman has shown little in his dealings with the Attorney General over the past 6 months but a litany of empty threats and predictable retreats when they are ignored.
During his December 8th testimony before Issas House Government Reform Committee, Holder stated emphatically that his Department of Justice would NOT provide congress any Fast and Furious information dated later than February 4th of 2011.
In support of that assertion he has prevented DOJ officials providing testimony to the House and ignored repeated requests for relevant letters and emails. (2)
Perhaps such astounding arrogance should have surprised no one, for when the House at last filed a subpoena in October demanding the Department turn over approximately 80,000 Fast and Furious related documents, Holder ignored it, making clear even then that he had no intention of abiding by House demands.
And the House of Representativesthat is, the Republican Partydid nothing.
At the end of January, Deputy Attorney James Cole addressed a letter to Congress stating the Department of Justice in no way had the necessary TIME to comply with House requirements that it FINALLY turn over the documents subpoenaed 4 months earlier.
This was in response to yet another Issa threat on January 27th to begin contempt proceedings against Holder should he fail to provide the material by a February 9th deadline. (3)
And Issa reiterated that threat prior to the AGs House testimony of Feb 2nd, stating once again there would be no choice...

14 letters to AG Holder? Probably all have been ignored.
Time to shit or get off the pot, Issa
Would the author prefer this Holder matter to peak today, or peak closer to election day?
Holder is a steaming pile of crap, but I’d rather broom him and his bisexual benefactor in November than climax this soap opera too early so voters can forget by November.
Give the traitor commie/moslem lover every chance to meet Issa’s demands. Then, when he inevitably follows Omoslem’s orders to obstruct justice and hide the murders they’ve been accessory to, throw their filthy butts in the street.
Wouldn't that just be playing politics? I'm not trying to be naive, but won't the MSM and the DNC just discount proceedings in the summer as politics as usual? If Issa has the goods now he should press now and expose as corrupt all of those involved.
Unlike impeachment, contempt proceedings by congress are limited to just one of the bodies. Reid in the senate could not block it in any way, and it just requires a simple majority vote, first by the committee, then the house as a whole.
After having found Holder in contempt shouldn't the House force the Senate to vote on the issue? If they don't aren't they just playing politics?
Should a grand jury be involved? Should there be a special prosecutor? Should Issa put Obama under pressure by demanding a special counsel?
Lots of possibilities here, some of which result in an extended pummeling of Holder and lots of pressure on Obama.
I'm all for the pressure, but I'm more for indictments if warranted.!

There is simply no one in Congress that will DO THE RIGHT THING and take the consequences of making the right decision.
It's not about helping to nominate any new Conservative Blood to help them take back America, it is about holding onto their jobs at all costs, PERIOD. Until we are all ready to THROW THEM ALL OUT, there will be no change.
I believe this is our Samuel 15 (God orders Saul to kill ALL the Amalekites),moment/year. The kill here would the VOTE, we either take this moment in time or FORGET about it. We will say, throw THEM out but not our own Congressman, TO HELL WITH THAT THINKING. Throw them all out. Until we do that, we get the same old, same old.
I viewed the late 2011 hearing and I am positive that by the end, several pubbies on the committee wanted to take Holder out back and kick the sh!t out of him.
It was a mistake to not charge Holder with perjury after that hearing.
Every outrage that goes unanswered is precedent for the next.
I dunno. We've been married 33 years and I'm still waiting to catch her out!
:)
November would be a good time for the first time...
This country has two parties in the 2012 national election, the crony establishment party and the crony establishment party. The charade of a national election serves only to appease those foolish enough to believe they still have a voice, not with only who is elected but how the country is governed. Not that it can’t be done, to throw them all out in the true since, regrettably, will require citizen involvement to the extent not seen since the very establishment of this United States.
Right now, all Issa could do would be to have a committee vote on contempt, if the other Republicans agree to vote in favor. If not, no vote. Then, if he wins the vote, it would go to Boehner, who decides if the whole house will vote on it, which is his unique choice. They also have to decide what *kind* of contempt citation to use:

After having found Holder in contempt shouldn't the House force the Senate to vote on the issue?
Contempt is of *either* the House or the Senate, not both. The whole thing is handled in either one or the other. And this is actually better, because the House cannot force the senate to do anything, or vice versa, and Reid would never agree to a senate vote.
Should a grand jury be involved? Should there be a special prosecutor? Should Issa put Obama under pressure by demanding a special counsel?
This would only apply under the second variety of contempt citation, and it can be a can of worms. Strategically, I can't say which route Issa and Boehner would take.
“fear of backlash”
is the reason we’re in this mess today. It got us McCain and Dole. It got us candidates that are afraid to campaign against 0bama. It got us an entire Congress and Judiciary that won’t touch the obvious eligibility problem.
Be bold, be truthful, be upright and honest.
If you would have written it that way I would have had no problem agreeing with you.
Well if it is a Republican Party sandwich that is running it has to be a Chicken sandwich.
