Santorum Urges Michigan Voters To 'Shock the Country' [“We’ve Run A Moderate, We’ve Lost"]

Santorum Urges Michigan Voters To 'Shock the Country' By Jonathan Easley - 02/25/12

Rick Santorum unloaded on Mitt Romney at the Americans for Prosperity Forum in Michigan on Saturday, in an aggressive speech that earned him a standing ovation as he urged the crowd to “shock the country” by voting for the “complete conservative.”

Santorum had vaulted into the lead in national polls and in Michigan, following his surprising three-state caucus sweeps in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, but has faded after getting hammered at a debate in Arizona on Wednesday over his record as a senator.

Romney has since overtaken Santorum in most Michigan polls, although the race remains tight. “You have an opportunity here in Michigan to make this election about big things,” Santorum said. “You have an opportunity here in Michigan to shock the country.”

In urging voters to upending conventional wisdom, Santorum raised the stakes for Romney in a state where a Romney once served as governor. Santorum made clear that if Romney were to lose in Michigan, where Romney lived until he was 18, it would kill his “electability” argument and signal to the base that it’s safe vote for a conservative alternative.

“Every time we’ve run a moderate, we’ve lost. Every time we’ve run a conservative, a complete conservative … we’ve won,” Santorum said. “We won the 2010 elections because our people were excited about our candidates … not because we compromised.”

Hey Dingbat. Newt is admittedly not competing in Michigan. He’s polling in single digits.

And who’s talking about contraceptives?... That would be the liberal media.

1. Santorum never brought contraceptives into this. The media did and you believed what they said.

2. Newt’s not competing in Michigan. It’s Santorum or Romney here.

Stop Shilling for Mitt. Newt has no chance in Michigan.

Why would Mitt want to cut down Michigan’s perfectly tall trees?

The Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in 1965 in Griswold v. Connecticutthat a state cannot ban contraceptives. When the Republican candidates were asked about contraception by ABC's George S., none of them knew that a state cannot ban birth-control devices. Romney seem confused and just said that "no one wants to" ban contraception.

If you are not supporting Santorum to win in MI you are supporting Mittens by default. Newt isn't running there leaving Santorum, Milt and his little toady RuPaul.

"Igor. I want you to spend more of your money running negative ads against Newt and Rick in states you are not running in."

“Washington and Lincoln believed that Satan was real as well.”

Yes, they did. And so do I.

But don’t go calling people derogatory names like “Dingbat”, just because you do not like her opinion. Try convincing her, with logic, why she’s not seeing the whole picture.

Let’s try keeping this clean and remember, the goal is to vote Obama out of office, not tick-off other Republicans.

“Houston, we have a problem. We need Newt.”

Running Santorum down is not going to get you Newt. It will get you Romney. I would have supported Gingrich if he had emerged as the not-Romney. He has not done so. I am perfectly OK with Santorum and I am committed to stopping Romney. I think Santorum is more electable than Gingrich as well and harder to attack for a whole host of reasons.

But, unlike you, I am not going to stoop to attacking Gingrich. Romney is the foe.

When it comes to spending, one of my principal concerns, it’s arguable Santorum is the LEAST conservative of the 4 candidates.

Mitt raised fees as Massachusetts Governor. He also gave us Romneycare.

Romney's a whole other level of bad.

When it comes to the size, scope and power of the federal government, it’s arguable Santorum is the LEAST conservative of the four candidates.

To be fair, you might also note that the “Little Rickie” meme is not a logical, persuasive form of argumentation. In fact, I think the use the word dingbat is exactly the right counterpoint to exemplify the sophomoric nature of the original point.

There's NO DOUBT Romney is bad on fiscal issues and we don't know how he would have voted on many pieces of legislation in the congress.

We do know how Santorum voted.

So I must correct my contention, we know Santorum is, at best, 3rd most conservative on fiscal issues and size, scope and power of the federal government.

He's about even with Newt on on Foreign Policy/defense...but FAR less knowledgeable and articulate.

When it comes to Social Issues I would say it's the ONLY place he can claim to be "the most conservative" and the rest of his contention is hollow BS.

Namecalling can get one thrown off of Free Republic. Remember that.

And I do not approve of calling anyone “little .....”.

Furthermore, she has the right to cheer on her candidate. So it ticks you off? Grow up.

Steelfish and Laz come on Newt threads and spread crap all the time.

It must stop. Our goal is to pry Obama out of our White House; or do you disagree with that point, mongrel?
