Iím Coming to Your House
Preparedness Pro ^ | 4/19/12 | Kellene Bishop

I have to say, this is my most hated and loathed 5 word sentence. Anyone who has the temerity to take control of their future though, aka practices self-reliance, has heard these words, or a derivative thereof way too many times.

“When things get rough, I’m coming to YOUR house!”

“Why do I need to prepare for anything? I’ll just go to my parents house?”

“If the world comes to an end, I’ll just get my gun and find me a Mormon.”

I gotta tell you, I even hate hearing these things when they are said in jest. To me they are just as grating on me as when someone takes the Lord’s name in vain or drops the F-bomb. It’s NOT okay for a person to make death threats, bully or harass another human being—even if they are smiling while they do it, and not O.K. for a person to shirk their own responsibility to take care of themselves and their family.

There are more than one even here on FR that think this way. Some even think you should share in the name of Jesus with those who prepared not.

Someone called these people 'crabs' they are stuck in the bucket and will pull you down back in the bucket with them if they can.

That's nice.

I have XX acres and a backhoe.

You won't be missed.

Telling friends and neighbors you have more stuff than they do is bragging - don’t tell them you are a prepper.

You should vet people out before that discussion.
Talking to nearby like-minded preppers is “OK”

If you were filthy rich in an area where most people weren’t - you wouldn’t broadcast it.....when the STHF you really don’t want people knowing you are ‘filthy rich in supplies’...in any neighborhood.

Most Preppers assume that someone is coming to their house. We are called Preppers because we are prepared. I would advise you try the non-preppers first because when you arrive at my house I may be your huckleberry.

Telling anyone who doesn't take todays situation seriously is like sending out an advertisement. People you don't even know will be showing up, because they've heard about you from someone else.
Just do your work in private. You'll be much better off that way.

That’s actually nine words.

The five word “I’m coming to your house” may or may not evoke terror, depending who says it, when they say it, and why they are saying it. Mother-in-law, 35 year old kid wanting to move back in, cops, Al Sharpton - you get the idea.

The nine word sentence “When things get tough, I’m coming to your house” is the one you really need to watch out for.

The only people who know we’re prepping are our kids, who are also prepping. We have the land and the well and the space to house them. We’re rural and we’re ready. We only discuss with like minded individuals. To heck with the rest of them.

Anyone dumb enough not to be prepared at all isn’t going to survive with a gun in his hand. He’s dumb enough not to have prepared then he’s dumb enough to make fatal mistakes with that gun.

“I’m coming to your house”

Immediately answered by, “Whaddaya got to trade??”

(And when they list their ‘assets’, and find out that most of them won’t buy a cup of coffee here, it at least gets ‘em thinking a bit more seriously
about ‘what if’....)

To heck with the rest of them.

Sure, I'll feel bad for people, but it's not like they weren't warned. They CHOSE to ignore the writing on the wall. So, they CHOSE the consequences as well. Because it was THEIR CHOICE, I can deal with it.

If you’re sufficiently well-organized with respect to your neighbors, you’ll have a watch and an unwelcoming committee to say howdy to unwanted visitors.

I’m pro-choice. The Takers can go to hell. They can live with their gov bennies when they dry up. I have no sympathies.

This is a 10 minute scene of "The Shelter", from the Twilight Zone. As a child it stuck with me. I think it covers everything quite well.

I get that occasionally from co-workers et al with whom I do not discuss prepping but they just assume I do because I am a sensible practical problem solving person working in the penthouse of the ivory tower. Usually my response it one of two things, depending on the person making the comment.

To pleasant but clueless folks I say, “Really? What resources are you bringing?” The tone of my voice makes it clear they will not be welcomed unless they strengthen my status.

To the belligerently obnoxious I reply, “Don’t make me kill you.” That brings the conversation to an end.

I thought the line of coming to my house was funny ‘cause by the time they get there, I will have already bugged out and wont be there. My cache wont be there either. Oh you might find some furniture and clothing. Perhaps some hobby supplies and some entertainment (movies / TV) but that is about it.

I watched it, it was GOOD! Thanks for the link. This is exactly why you need to keep your preppers projects to yourself and only confide in close relatives or friends.

The one that stuck with me was the girl getting cold/hot because she had a dream the earth was moving towards/away from the sun. When she woke up the opposite she dreamed was happening. It was eye opening. I was probably 8-9 at the time.
