I decided to do some local sporting goods shopping this afternoon before I headed to the gun club. I went to Bass Pro to look for a sling and rifle case for the AR-15A3 that I built Saturday evening. I found the rifle case that I wanted, but no luck finding a sling. As I checked out at Bass Pro, the cashier asked me for my phone number. I firmly said, "No thank you." The cashier typed in a bogus phone number and then asked if wanted to give $2.00 to some charity. Again, a firm, "No thank you." Lastly I was asked if I had a rewards card, "No". Followed by, "Do you want one?" Again, I firmly replied, "No thank you".
I go to Bass Pro a couple times a month. I know the drill. I don't like the questions. I am not going give the cashier a hard time, it's not her fault. But I am not going to appear to be happy, because I want them to know my shopping experience was less than perfect.
Since I didn't find the sling at Bass Pro I went to Dick's Sporting Goods as it was almost on the way to the range. Dick's had an adequate sling with price. It wasn't worth burning time and gas to look elsewhere or to pay extra for shipping for a purchase on the Internet.
So after waiting entirely too long to check out, the cashier asked me for my birthdate. I said, "No". There wasn't a thank you associated with my reply. She said, "You purchase is age restricted." I replied, "I am old enough to be your father." The cashier insisted by saying, "If you don't provide a birthdate, I can not approve your purchase." I retorted, allowing others in line to hear my dismay, "It's a gun sling, there's no law that requires me to provide you with my age." She was stunned that I stood up to protect my privacy and didn't say a thing. I then provided a false birthdate, "4-1-1912" and said "Dick's just lost a customer." My purchase was approved, and some other customers that were swift enough to figure out I wasn't 100 years old and born on April Fools Day had a bit of a laugh. The cashier was completely astonished. Note: I noticed a month or so ago that Dick's started recording birthdates for ammo purchases. There's a law associated with that, but it does not required Dick's to enter your birthday into their computers. I wasn't happy with that and I don't like the law either. I think my children of driving age should be able to buy ammo and go shooting when they want without dad tagging along. They know what they are doing. They have been around guns their entire lives, and are safer than many people on the range.
Today, of course, Uncle Fred would face assault charges from that incident, and as a result would be limited to a lifetime as a fry cook/s This November IS, not “maybe”, our last chance to save this nation......

My standard response when the clerk asks me if I’d like a store card is to say “No thanks, I already have enough crap in my wallet and junk mail at home.”

I have been asked for my phone number at a ladies clothing store...just tell them its unlisted so I don’t get harassed...
What I don’t like is here in Washington state, your vehicle registration has your address on it.
So what’s to stop some clown from stealing your car in a parking lot somewhere, making a casual guess that there’s a good chance you are not home and in the parking lot cussing, and heading to your place to clean you out?
I’m dyslexic. Anytime someone insists on a number of any kind I just switch the real numbers around.
I tried to buy some patches, just little squares of white flannel, at K-mart a couple years ago, but they demanded photo ID to buy them because they were FIREARMS ACCESSORIES. Told the cashier in a polite way to go F themselves.
Then I went across the strip mall to a fabric store and bought some white flannel and a pair of scissors.
I live in Maine....no SSN printed on the driver’s licenses here, either.
I have a P.O. Box address on my driver’s license.
We have bought ammo at Dicks and they did not ask us for any info. The last time they tried a bait and switch on some shotgun shells and that was it for us. We love Pro Bass so we don’t go to Dick’s anymore. Pro-Bass does push the rewards card but we have one so no big deal. We do not use it when purchasing ammo and we only pay cash. When they ask for our phone number we just tell them they don’t need it.
Many of the cashiers at Shaw’s Supermarket here in Maine will just hand you a discount card if you don’t have one, no questions asked.
Oh....I was with my neighbor when he purchased ammo here in Maine at a local WalMart about a year ago (for his 9mm Beretta). He flashed the clerk his driver’s license for a few seconds and that was it. No scan made of the license, no information written down.
My fiance had her ID card checked in Germany in 1980 for buying chocolate. She was 19.
I live in a mostly Hispanic suburb, and there are several stores that advertise production of documents. It is purely my presumption that some of the documents they produce include nice frauds. Obama’s illegal amnesty will lead to a booming business for them.
I have occasionally wondered if they could fix me up with a Matricula card.
That's between them and the overlords I guess. If their implementation compromises MY rights or MY privacy in the process of covering THEIR azz, then their implementation is wrong.
Exactly! If they want to keep 17 year-olds from smoking, I guess that's between them and the 17 year-olds and none of my business, but damned if I'm going to contribute any of my rights or privacy to the cause. Ain't that good of a cause anyway.
Now some retailers around here are refusing to sell liquor to someone with ID IF THEY'RE ACCOMPANIED BY SOMEONE UNDER AGE!!! My wife went in with my daughter and friends and they wouldn't sell her alcohol because the kids were under age and/or didn't have ID's on them. This is moronic for almost more reasons than I have fingers.
1) In this state it's legal to serve your own kids alcohol in the home. If they think the adult is buying for the kids, how do they know the kids aren't the children of that adult??
2) What business have they got second guessing your intentions and taking ANY action based on the musings of some dropout with a room-temp IQ anyway?
3) How do they handle a young wife doing the week's shopping which includes some liquor or beer and naturally has her kids with her? "Sorry maam, you can't have that, we think you're going to give it to your toddler and infant, there!"
Usually the cashier has one she'll swipe, or the customer following you in line is happy to get whatever "points" or whatever they accrue with the purchase. Or get one, give them all fake information and make sure you NEVER NEVER pay with a debit or credit card, only with cash. A lot of stores will accept a phone number in lieu of a physical card. Learn a neighbor's phone and give them that. Again, remember to pay cash.

Now even the “impoverished” have cells -Obama phones- at taxpayer expense.
My cell is a prepay and gets little use, tho it is handy if needed. I don’t understand the expectation that one must be available to all and sundry demands - but different strokes and all that.
I guess the last person I went off on big time was a phone solicitor for some law enforcement charity. All my numbers are private. I have two phone lines in my home and those two lines have Ring Master service. Only about three persons know the ringmaster number and they use it from their cell phones so I know to answer it fast.
The solicitors calling the ringmaster line have somehow obtained my name. The last one who called I asked him 5 times how did you get this number as it is not my primary number? One of two things had to happen. Either my county gave them 911 system info which should not have included the ringmaster number as it is incoming calls only, or AT&T is selling my info.
