Woman Got Loaded Gun Past TSA: Report By Jason Sickles
Example of a Ruger .380 (Yahoo! News) (Pic in URL)
At less than six inches and just under 10 ounces, the Ruger .380 is considered by gun owners to be a great little pocket pistol. So small, in fact, that you can sometimes get one onto an airplane. D'oh!
Yep, the New York Daily News reports that a woman flew 938 miles from Orlando, Fla., to Newark, N.J., on Thursday with a loaded .380 in her purse. United flight 15 was airborne before she realized what she'd doneand airport screeners had missed. How the Daily News said it unfolded:
She didn't tell anyone on the plane about the weapon during the flight, which left Florida at 8:19 a.m.
But when she landed at Newark Airport at 10:24, she immediately told a Port Authority police officer.
The newspaper identified the woman as a 37-year-old Orlando firefighter. New Jersey officials called Florida authorities, but the Daily News says the Essex County prosecutor declined to prosecute the woman because she self-reported the incident.
"She was visibly upset. She said she had a license to carry it and just forgot it," said Al Della Fave, Port Authority police spokesman. "The [Port Authority] officer took possession of the handgun and made it safe."
The Transportation Security Administration, meanwhile, had no immediate answers.

“I’m quite surprised they declined to prosecute.”
That’s because it was Newark. Those jerks in NYC would’ve prosecuted her.
Jersey as a state is much worse than NY State.
though the Bloomberg effect in NY City is worse than Jersey
now WHY would she declare it...they dont search getting OFF the plane...
not smart.
now WHY would she declare it...they dont search getting OFF the plane... Should have just taken it to Mail Boxes, etc and discretely packed it and shipped it home.
You got it. I’ve read enough of these stories to know not to tell anyone.
my thoughts exactly
Well... if they DID, the TSA could double their take on stolen personal items.
Probably because she was then faced with a return flight! What would she do with the gun. I’m sure she wanted to keep it and figured the only way was to declare it and they might possibly help her get it back home?
Just a thought!
Quality prosecuter. Actually considers Mens Rea.
I dunno...I probably would have rented a car and drive it home...mailing it is another whole ‘nother set of laws that could really get you...federal lawy says anyone(non felon) can transport a firearm, unloaded and locked in a trunk across state lines...of course each state has different rules about how it is stored and how long you can remain in their state with it...
Before I bought my Kel-tec .380, I looked at the Ruger. The Ruger was $200 more.
My Kel-tec is nice though. Don’t even know it’s in your pocket. Made in FL, guaranteed for life.
I might spring for THIS beast.
Why on G-d's green Earth would she do such a thing? Get your bags and leave the airport with your mouth SHUT!
” Woman Got Loaded Gun Past TSA: Report”
You know what never gets past TSA? Large wads of cash.

95-Year-Old Claims TSA Swiped $300 During Pat-Down
All she had to do was get a plastic gun box for $10 at any gunstore or walmart, lock it and put it in checked baggage. Declare it at time of check in for return trip, and it travels back home.
The way she did it, she is out a $300 gun.
She has to be fairly naive.
I'm fairly radical when it comes to firearms safety and OPSEC.
She is too stupid to own a firearm in today's type of environment.
But...the 2nd Amendment being what it is...it's not for me to say. No more than I would accept anyone telling me what I can and cannot do.
