Mitt Romney the Intimidator
Town Hall ^ | October 04, 2012 | reasonmclucus

Megyn Kelly on Fox made an interesting observation on the first debate. Mitt Romney would watch Barack Obama during the debate while Obama tended to look at Jim Lehrer or the cameras. I had halfway noticed this situation during the debate but didn't really consider the implications until she commented.

I went back and fast forwarded through the debate. Romney would look at Obama for significant periods, but Obama only occasionally glanced at Romney before looking away or looking down.

An obvious explanation for Obama not looking at Romney is that Obama felt intimidated by Romney. The debates cannot resolve differences on issues because the responses are too short. Romney apparently recognizes that the debates allow a candidate to show who has the strongest personality and would be best able to stand up to the leaders of other countries, the leaders of special interest groups and congressional opponents.

Watching one's opponent is important in verbal combat as well as in physical combat. A boxer watches his opponent to look for an opening for a punch or an indication of what type of punch the opponent may throw. A verbal combatant watches body language and facial expression for signs of weakness.

I was a boxing fan when Mohammad Ali was the champ. I still recall him trying to stare down opponents to try to shake their self confidence. Romney at times seemed to be trying to stare down Obama who occasionally glanced at Romney and then quickly looked away.

Romney obviously understands personal conflicts in a political, or business, situation and how to appear to be a tough opponent. Obama does not.

The 1962 Cuban missile crisis occurred because Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev felt American President John F. Kennedy could be intimidated. The recent attack on the American consulate in Libya may have occurred because al Qaeda believes Obama can be intimidated.

Before the debate I was planning to vote for Romney only as a means of getting Obama out of the White House. Now I will vote for Romney the Intimidator to be our leader in foreign affairs.

We women automatically notice where men are looking when they talk. I think of Obama as being tall, but at times he looked very small behind his podium, like he wanted to hide. A couple of times Obama stuttered and stammered when trying to respond.

I would like to know where Obama gets this $5 trillion tax cut claim considering the size of the federal government and amount of taxes. How many decades is this tax cut spread over?

There is no doubt that Obama was greatly diminished by his confrontation with Romney. It was obvious to everyone.

Obama just isn’t that smart...and he knows it. Affirmative action all the way. Got into Occidental after being drunk and stoned his last two years of high school...by his own admission.

At the time Occi was turning down eighty percent of applicants...yet this guy got in. Flunked out there...and got into Columbia...how’d he do that? Had to be Aff action..as a foreign student. By his own admission he did whatever drugs he could find in Moringside Heights.

So how did he get into Harvard Law? I’d sure like to see his LSAT scores.

When the Bamster came on stage, he looked
like he had just done a line of toot.
He was edgy and animated.

Within an hour he was flat.

Someone later described him as
flaccid and unprepared.

The new definition of an intimidator is one who interrupts another when he is lying.

It’s something parents (especially fathers) do, stare at the child waiting for them to answer, if they are lying the child looks down before talking.

Possibly. Or equally possible Romney is an honorable man who looks his enemy in the eye, not a jackal who skulks and schemes and waits for a chance to blindside his prey.

This entirely explains why I feel that Obama is TOAST! He lost the election on October 4, 2012. The insurmountable Obama lost the entire ‘enchilada’ in one debate. The rest of the debates WILL ONLY CONFIRM what we saw yesterday (which is what we all here have known for 4 years but the rest of the country just learned —— that Obama has been a fake and a fraud that has absolutely nothing of substance to offer like the last 4 years of “0” results). So, the remaining debates will actually do nothing more than re-confirm things again to those that watched.

When the only thing positive that you can ascribe to Obama these past 4 years is the fact that the U.S. military KILLED Osama Bin Laden, and Obama has absolutely nothing but “0” accomplishments / or unpopular ‘accomplishments’ (OBAMACARE) - and a majority of Americans now know this, then you know that this show is over!

Bullies often are very weak people trying to show people around them that they aren’t weak. That is why Obama gets angry when someone challenges him. They can easily expose his weakness. The easy way out for him is to throw a tantrum and exit, just like he did when directed Lehrer to change the subject. No, Obama is mush on the inside. But people like him are very dangerous when they acquire power.

Romney’s handlers probably picked up on this and knew Obama would be intimidated by agressiveness and strong eye contact. Sure enough, ZerO melted like ice cream on a hot day. Now his gang members are going to have to come to his rescue.

You may be right that the debate was the turning point moment. But we still have a month to go. There’s lots of twists and turns left. And three debates. And a possible foreign crisis. Etc.

Romney, with select partners and perceptive hiring, built a company from scratch and came up in the world as a genuinely successful businessman. Unlike politics, journalism, and the entertainment industry business is unforgiving performance based hard ball, especially at the levels where Romney played.

Obama has no conception of that and probably thinks he just was off and Romney had a lucky night. Well, guess again little buddy. I suspect that Romney has him pegged. In the next debate Obama will probably try on his "angry and aggrieved black man" persona and get thrown to the mat more easily than last night.

I think you hit the key here. Obama came to the debate as a professor giving a lecture. A lecture where no one can talk back. Romney came to the debate as chairman of the board leading a board meeting. A meeting where underlings could present their ideas and argue, then he would tell them what will happen. A CEO vs. the professor.

Having been in the business world and a cutthroat part of it to boot, I learned that communication is more than the words you say. Eye contact - critical. A firm handshake - important. Confidence - critical. Knowing your ‘stuff’ & being loaded for (grizzly) bear - critical x 2. Mitt knows how to do all of this - and it will also be effective when meeting with foreign leaders (unlike Obama who shuns relationships). Romney has to have guts to get where he is and he’s got experience doing it. He’s going to have to watch out for the dirty tricks, but Obama is used to getting a pass on everything and being treated like something special because of his skin color - he doesn’t have it in him to steamroll Romney. Gutter fighting? I think Obama will resort to it because he has nothing else, but it will look MOST un-Presidential.

I had a boss/friend who showed all signs of clinical narcissism. In a moment of weakness, he said his greatest fear was that someone would discover that he had nothing inside. That’s what happened to Obama last night. Someone exposed his empty character.

***I think of Obama as being tall, but at times he looked very small behind his podium,***

Reminds me of 1978 and 1979. The cartoonists began to draw Jimmy Carter smaller, and smaller, and smaller compared to those around him.

I totally agree with you (still a lot of time left), but the only thing these people have in their bag of trick, is the same crappy/scary tricks that are tired-worn from past years, Seniors-Mediscare / Race baiting / War on Women / Hate the Poor / Republicans=Rich / class warfare / NEGATIVE ATTACK ADS - I feel that all this will NOT CONVINCE those crucial 5% remaining that will now decide this election in 4 weeks.

All the above are workable tactics for ‘defining’ an opposition candidate early on - and if it works - continue it till the end. But, the fact that they have already poured MILLIONS (along with the allies in the MSM to push this mantra) all these months, and it HASN’T WORKED... tells you that they have NOTHING but DESPERATION left in their bag!

If Romney just continues on the same path, OBAMA IS TOAST!!! and a BIG TOAST on Nov 6th!
