Rubio is not my favorite Repub. But I'm not going to let the press make up my mind about him either for or against.
Once they've destroyed one, they move on to the next. There will never be a Repub or conservative without “baggage”. Whoever you support, if they are viewed as a threat to the Dems or to the establishment, they will be hit with a mudstorm and weaker souls will be looking for a place to hide and looking for that mythical candidate who doesn't have “baggage”... that is, someone who hasn't been targeted yet.
One more thing. I remember the moment the Dem establishment decided to drop Howard Dean as their flag-bearer. They seized on his exuberant “whoop” and suddenly he was dead to them. And everyone accepted that the scream was the reason he dropped into the abyss rather than notice the more ominous truth: the word went out that he was done, and lock-step and with absolute unanimity, all the press organs in America agreed instantly and with identical cover stories.
Who has that power?

Rubio can come back from this easily if he laughs along with everyone else, turns it into a joke on himself, and gets lots of coaching and (nonrecorded) speech time in front of audiences so that he becomes even better in front of the camera than His Majesty Barack I.
Rubio should get some coaching, and in a few weeks make the rounds of the “hip” talk shows — Craig Ferguson, Leno, Jimmy Fallon, etc. If he can look cool and be funny on those shows, this will be a plus for him, not a minus. It’s up to him to turn it around. If he’s smart enough to do that, maybe he’s smart enough to be POTUS too.
No need to destroy Marco Rubio. The more he opens his mouth, the more clear he makes it that he has jumped the shark and sides with the GOPe.
Which means that every time he speaks, he destroys himself.
