We need to look at recent examples.
Kaddhafi’s Libya, one of the most despotic regimes in the Middle East, trained its soldiers to follow orders, no matter what. When Kaddhafi gave the order to shoot Libyans, 75% of the Libyan army deserted and went home to their provinces to protect their families, taking their weapons with them.
The soldiers that remained were raw recruits and officers in Kaddhafi’s elite guard. Thy were completely ineffective as a fighting force. Kaddhafi had to call out his southern mercenaries to quell the revolt.
After his mercenary goons attacked and killed students protesting at a university, all hell broke loose. The army deserters hooked up with the provincial militias and took the mercenaries down, shooting them in the streets, burning down the towns they lived in and hanging them from lampposts.
Ordering soldiers to kill family and friends changes the entire dynamic of what exactly the military will do.
And for you despicable FReepers inferring that our soldiers and Marines are no better than the Gestapo, KMA.
I am just expressing my opinion. IMO the military will follow the order of the Generals who Obama has placed over them.
I hope I am wrong.
Hopefully the soldiers ave enough common sense to realize they could be the next targets, that they are just being used to do the work of a tyrant, the endresult of dsarmament of the citizenry, and that what they are doing is unconstitutional. I have had some long discussions with soldiers about this matter. Everyone soldier have talked to has a strong dislike for the current CIC and do not trust his judgment. Plus all are patriots that will honor their oaths to protect the Constitution. I do not think they will truly follow his orders as a whole; maybe just to give the impression that they are doing their jobs. Sure there will be a few hung ho soldiers that follow orders without question but those will probably be rare.

1. Admirals, Generals, most 0-6s, and about half of 0-5s are political creatures that think of their own promotion first. The ones that will not step in line will be removed quickly with ones that will. Sadly, I've never met an academy graduate that was a strong constitutionalist.
2. The junior officers and senior enlisted are 80% extremely conservative.
3. The enlisted force is a mixed bag. I'd say 60% conservative, becoming more and more conservative as you approach the pointy end of the spear.
I used to think that there was no way that the U.S. military would fire on U.S. civilians, but there are several factors that I think could bring that on.
1. Propaganda. If they are told that they are dealing with blood thirsty, treasonous, baby rapists, then they will be more inclined to kill them.
2. Response to false flags. If they are fired on while responding to “an incident”, it won't matter who is firing or from where, they will feel natural pressure to respond to who is around them.
3. Poorly trained troops.
I don't think so much of what would happen if our current front line troops were ordered to shoot, as what could happen in the future if someone wanted to push the military in this direction.

The US Military is mostly strong patriots who love America and the Constitution. Even nobama thinks its highly unlikely the US Military will attack US citizens, that is why he wants his “civilian security force” DHS.
If SHTF, I don’t think Mr. nobama will find even the FBI or Secret Service supportive and he’ll be stuck with his stupid gaggle of “gimme mo” folks and racists, like Calypso Louie, who only vote race and will give up at the first sign of their blood in the streets.

I’ve been in the military for 24 years now and I retire in the next couple months. I’ve posed this question to quite a few others and asked what they would do. I received the following responses:
1. Hell no.
2. I’d leave.
3. Some expressed disbelief it would ever happen.
4. Very few said they would but expressed their dissatisfaction with it.
All the senior NCO’s I asked said they would refuse. About 90% of the officers I asked said it would be unConstitutional with the other 10% being lower ranking officers who go along.
Sadly too many of the younger Soldiers took the oath to support and defend the Constitution but don’t know what is in it.
So, gunner, how many rounds did you put down range, before your supposed epiphany, of not shooting live rounds? Do not give new shooters such advice. Ever.

Even if they exist, The NRA won a court case with the city of New Orleans over illegal confiscation, which was widespread and systematic. The confiscation was done by the order of the chief of police.
To say that some people kept their firearms, therefore there was no confiscation is a logical fallacy.
I don’t think that the one half of the million man military is a match for 100 million gun owners.
Even if you add half of the LEO’s.
They won’t be able to sneak up on everyone at once, and you’ll be able to see it coming, well in advance.
One thing we can be certain about. The barnacles stuck to the USS Pentagon will slavishly carry out the orders of any despot squatting in the White House. Their oath to defend the Constitution from “enemies, both foreign and domestic” means noting if their employment and retirement pension would be endangered.
The citizens of this nation should be fully aware that in any such conflict, they will be on their own. That’s why the Founders so wisely entrusted us with the Second Amendment’s RTBA.
