VIRGINIA'S CATHOLIC BISHOPS SAY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT 'LAWBREAKERS'
breitbart.com ^ | 18 Oct 2013, | DR. SUSAN BERRY

Having been cued by President Obama that his attention will now turn to immigration reform, some Catholic bishops are revving up their campaign to demand that Congress grant amnesty to at least 11 million illegal immigrants. In an op-ed in the Richmond Times-Dispatch entitled “Who Is My Neighbor?” Virginia’s bishops criticized Americans who claim illegal immigrants are “lawbreakers.” Bishops Francis DiLorenzo of Richmond and Paul Loverde of Arlington wrote, “Many regard the undocumented immigrants among us as lawbreakers, when instead we are all challenged to embrace them as fellow children of God, deserving of the same dignity that we ourselves enjoy.” Unlike the model that welcomed our parents, grandparents or great-grandparents to these shores in the last century or before, current policy does not adequately or realistically address the need for visas. Living in this comparatively prosperous, peaceful nation, many Americans seem unaware of the desperate situations that lead people to enter or remain in the country illegally. Around the globe, people yearn for better lives, a chance to escape poverty, jobs to feed their families, reunion with their kin or life in a country free of war. Arguing that “immigration reform will strengthen Virginia socially and economically,” the bishops claim that, regardless, a “path to citizenship” should be accomplished simply “because it is the right thing to do.”

The Catholics just aren’t big on that “national sovereignty” thing, are they?

I used to be a Catholic... This, along with other liberal stances, is why I ran from that church once I became an adult.

This is an excellent summary. Have you shared it with your bishop?

the problem today is that we’ve remove ridicule from society

there was a time when you’d say something this stupid, you’d be laughed out of whatever position you held.

it’s almost as stupid as saying raising the debt ceiling won’t ... raise the debt

we just need to start sternly saying one word when they talk:

MORON

No, I haven't shared it with Cardinal Wuerl. Next time I see him and have a chance to talk to him, I'll do so.

Whatever happen to "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"[Matthew 22:21]

This phrase has become a widely quoted summary of the relationship between Christianity and secular authority.

Liberation theology is alive and well in the US Catholic church.

What about some of 9/11 hijackers or other terrorists who overstayed their visas?

This needs to be exposed/explained...along with the hypocrisy of the 9/11 and other terrorists, illegal criminals, etc.

Dolan already says the Pope endorses the U.S. bishops’ conference’s promotion of more illegal aliens.

Yes, it is.
As long as somebody else (usually non-Catholics) pay for it!

The anarchists are not the TEA Party citizens of the USA.

It is the wild eyed, self righteous zealots who truly believe that whenever they lie, cheat and steal for their cause, it is neither illegal or sinfull, because THEY are the truly compassionate, forced into being thieves, doing the will of God.
Or in the case of avowed atheists, redistributing wealth and power in a fair and compassionate manner.

In both categories, these enlightened ones are elected as leaders in their groups, by their groups of members.
And those not in the group are all wrong and/or evil...

I think the Catholic Church should do away with Bishops.

Who needs them?

Disturbing that the only way is the amnesty way, according to usccb, and never a word of regard given to the concerns of working Catholics who respected Ellis Island, took in people from all over the world, nursed them in Catholic hospitals, educated them in Catholic schools, fed them and taught them English in Catholic charities. Catholics respect the Constitution, understand sovereignty, law and justice, and are not buying this crap, nor are they willing to lay down for lawlessness, in the name of whatever charitable sounding act these particular bishops stick on it.

This is chaos, disorder and license, plain and simple, and it’s robbery of the people of God on whose back these law breakers ride.

We already see what collapse this open borders business has cost in lives, politics and the economy, in the lack of law enforcement and assimilation requirements and virtually no production requirements above lettuce picking.

Speak to THAT good bishops! Outrageous.

Possibly the bottom line maybe in simple dollars and cents. I have seen especially in Canada various support groups for illegal immigrants, coupled with dubious claimants, as refugees this kind of thing.

They then sit back and let the ramifications of easy entry effect others. For it is the lower income groups that are generally affected. They find themselves thrust into close proximity with those who often then push and shove. The lower income people may be able to move, but if they are unable they may be stuck with an unpleasant situation.

I understand that in Lewiston, Maine, the exodus of Somali nationals from Georgia for easier welfare benefits reached 6,000 persons. Church authorities were in part responsible.

Just see if these authorities would actively guarantee housing etc. Just see if they would put up a bond of so many dollars per person.

No, they would quickly fade into the shadows.

Then I say this man is not a man of God.

Obviously not, he's a Catholic priest.

Archbishop Dolan had a disgusting op-ed in the WSJ today in which he lumped those who go to the archdiocese for help with getting their citizenship with the illegals who hang around in certain places waiting for illegal day work.

He just segued from one to the other without a breath.

I read that Colbert creamed him last night at the Alfred Smith dinner. Going to watch it on youtube right now if I can find it. Said he looked like a matador who had let himself go.
