Okay, my last novel, "Castigo Cay," is in the Kindle store on a free run today through Wednesday. It's a departure from the characters and situations in the Enemies Trilogy, but it's still a look forward at a crumbling, semi-dystopian America. The main character is Dan Kilmer, a thirty-something former Marine scout/sniper who is trying to live as a free man in a world that is anything but free.
This is the last novel I have written. Over the past six weeks I've put all of my titles on Kindle free runs. I have nothing left in the inventory, and in a short while I'm going to drop off the net and go sailing. This also means that if anybody wants a signed, printed book, they shouldn't wait too long.
Try to find some of James Fenimore Cooper’s he wrote many
sea tales that are not famous as his other work.
I particularly reccomend..”The Crater” and “Miles Wallingford”, also “Homeward bound”.
You will need a book such as “Nautical Terms under Sail”
to really understand what the ships and crew were doing
but still a great read.
Can I download Matt’s books to my PC? I don’t have Kindle.
I can’t be specific, but I will be sort of fading away from the internet.
Enjoy your trip, Matt. You’ve earned it. Have a peaceful Veterans Day.
I know absolutely nothing about Kindle etc. and am too old to learn, but I recall someone on this site saying you can download some kind of program to read Kindle books even if you don’t have it.
You’re a pretty depressing read, Matt. But so is John Steinbeck. I got it on my Fire, thanks!
Is this available on paper for money? I don’t have a kindle reader and if I did, would not use it.
Easy; Free Kindle download to your Computer, works for other eBooks, too, .... from Amazon.

I remember enjoying reading your posts in my early years on the FR. I have just recently discovered your books; and, as an avid reader of all the Travis Mcgee novels through the years (even have enjoyed a few martinis with The famous Plymouth Gin!) am looking forward to reading them. But my reason for this post is to recommend a sailing destination for you. One of my favorite places to sail is the Exuma Islands. Especially Grand Exuma. The harbor at Georgetown and the famous Peace and Plenty Hotel and bar. Maybe you are familiar with these Islands. If so Great. Sorry to waste your time. But if not, please consider them. A lot of sailors consider them one of the best kept secrets of the out islands. At any rate, Happy sailing. May the wind fill your sails and the currents be kind to you! Best regards.
Thanks.
I dig the beyrl rail on that AK.
Thank you. Have a great time sailing.
I just want to get back on the ocean, for a month or a year. Maybe not more than that.
I hope we all have many healthy, happy months and years of reading ahead of us.
No time for gringos in Luna County, that’s for sure.
At this point my greatest hope is to get beyond wireless range, so the longer unconnected, the happier I’ll be.
Yes, my novels were all first available as printed books, and still are. And they can’t be mass-deleted from the ether like Kindle books.
Norman's Cay, late 80s.
Matt,
Thank you so much. You are an awesome guy and a great FReeper.
With regards,
Flying Eagle
Years ago, I’d considered live-aboard cruising, but I realized that I’d have to give up my library.
But with ebooks, I might have to reconsider.
