Disabled Military Retirees Betrayed by Gutless Republicans
Coach is Right ^ | December 21st, 2013 | Jim Emerson, staff writer

This week the Senate voted across party lines to pass a bill that would reduce the cost of living adjustment (COLA) for military retirees including disabled retirees and survivors. The Washington Free Beacon reported that a provision in the Ryan-Murray budget agreement no longer exempts disabled retirees. The original agreement stated that “This would not affect service members who retired because of disability or injury.” After the bill passed the House, the new summary removed the exemption granted to disabled retirees and survivors. It would be too easy to accuse just one party of this chicanery for remember, this was a bipartisan effort endorsed by Mr. Obama.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala has been desperately trying to prevent the cut in COLA for military retirees by advocating the halting of entitlements and tax refunds for illegal immigrants. Sen. Sessions pointed out to his colleagues that “It’s not correct, and it should not happen.” For the Democrats, vets and spouses are easy targets, like stealing candy from a baby on Christmas morning. Instead of cutting welfare benefits and tax emptions to illegal immigrants and other entitlement abusers the GOP establishment and Democrats will gladly take the money from the vets and families. They need the money to pay for the new budget while leaving civilian employees’ and other (intentional) deadbeats’ COLAs intact.

Technical Error?

Sen Murray “I want to make absolutely sure today that they know that a provision included in this deal that mistakenly included disabled retirees and survivors for changes in the pension growth will be addressed in short order following passage of this bill.” Her only mistake was that the bill wasn’t written in cursive, so the low information voter wouldn’t be able to read it. The omission had to be deliberate.

This week the Senate voted across party lines to pass a bill that would reduce the cost of living adjustment (COLA) for military retirees including disabled retirees and survivors.

Due to its incompleteness, the above line is not true. The GOP voted against ALL military retirees. While I certainly understand how unfathomable to attack disabled retirees, it is important to be clear.

Every single one of those retirees, whether currently disabled or not, could well have been disabled due to putting themselves at risk during their years of service.

The US Government broke faith with the military. All of it. It attacked the military. It has had the military on the firing line since Gulf War I under GHW Bush, followed by Bosnia/Kosovo, followed by Afghanistan, and Irag. Three of those operations continue to this day, not to mention the Sinai and Korea missions.

We shouldn't undervalue the service of those who served in any capacity with any honorable result.

The GOP is certainly finding ways to depress the vote in 2014.
With this despicable act and the coming amnesty, they may get their wish.
It’s almost like they wish to retain the status quo, vs pumping up their
base and electing a lot of new Tea Party candidates.
We all know Tea Party candidates are not welcome in DC..

They have 2 years to fix this. I believe they will. I am not sweating it. When I went in the military in 1987, the retirement SUCKED….when I retired in 2011 they fixed the retirement to make it pretty great. We should not be sweating this thing especially two years out.

TRI Prime will see rates go up and higher co-pays,

Even if they double it, the price is incredibly cheap. We are so lucky to have such inexpensive insurance and would be even if doubled.

If the Prog Pubbies fix it, the “fix” will just be enough to settle down the conservatives enough so they hold their nose and vote for them.

The difference between now and the 1990’s is that the Progressives of both parties finally see victory in sight and they aren’t going to move back now. Remember...their motto is Forward!

I joined the Military in 1975 and remember being spat upon by my fellow citizens whom I took an oath to defend. Now once again our Political class spits on the Military class. I spent 25 years on active duty and still work for the Air Force as a simple servant. I still think and act like the Senior NCO I rose to from ranks during my interesting career providing the same level of service (one of these days I’ve got to learn to be a worthless slimy civilian it would really bring down the stress level).
I also work with a large community of retired Air Force Officer’s and NCOs who are either simple servants or contractors in my current program. Each and every one of use left the service broken men and women and this is how we are thanked for the years of selfless service, long deployments, substandard pay, living conditions not fit for welfare families (got to love that base housing), and family separations with the lies of free medical, dental and eye care for life for 20 years or more of service. Bull excrement! They have poked the bear and push back is coming my slimy lying crap weasel RINO Congress critter (voted for this bill) will have a primary challenger this coming election year not that I have much hope the system will work to get rid of him. At least I know he will stay out our county as we have a very large community of retired Military that would love to make him the guest of honor an old fashioned neck tie party.

I work with a bunch of fellow retired SNCOs also but as a lousy defense contractor.

As long as the retirees, spouses and the TEA party patriots stick together we can slay this beast.

Obama will still be President in two years. The Democrat party will still be around in two years. The Democrats were handing out $50,000 to make believe pig farmers. Social Security Disability is skyrocketing. The number of Americans receiving foodstamps is skyrocketing. Obama, a man with no qualifications or experience to be President was elected by the American people twice.....twice. If you’re counting on the Republicans taking power after the 2014 election, then you have seen something in the majority of Republican politicians that I haven’t seen. Not a single Democrat Senator voted against the Ryan/Murray Bill. Why not? It’s because the Democrats and the Republican Party are counting on American Veterans to shut up and take it. I know all about political strategy and the need to keep Obamacare up front, but the Democrats understand political strategy, too. They can’t govern worth a damn, but they are masters of political strategy. This taking money from retired Veterans never had to come up. The Democrats did it to hurt the retired Veterans and grab money to use to buy Democrat votes. The Republican politicians could have at least put up a little fight. They didn’t. Why not? Obamacare is falling of its’ own weight, not because of the Republicans. The Democrats are getting waxed right now. Why should the Republicans surrender anything to them? Now is the time for pursuit not falling back.

Patty Murray is claiming that specific cut was Paul Ryan’s idea.
And it fits into to his entitlement reform theme so its believable.

Once it became an agreed upon Republicans jumped for it to avoid any more shutdown fights.

House of Representatives:

Republicans -- 234

Democrats -- 201

Throw in some vacancies as well, but does not matter. But this Republican does

yet its the dems fault.

As more reporting become available I tend to believe they both went for it. The disabled and spouse provision disappeared from the public record after the bill passed the house. Murray knew about all along and she is the one who led the effort to block Sen. Sessions.

I will not believe anymore promises from anyone involved until it has been reversed...Then again Obama most likely veto it to provide cover for the rats and rinos running for re-election.

If you keep getting no COLA’s and the cost of living keeps increasing you will find, that not to be the case. We are TFL, and hubby is having to half some of his high co-pay meds scripts to make them last 2 months. Between us both being on SS, his Navy pension, we make to much for him to be qualified for VA services.

You will then be making choices between eating and meds. And from what I see coming out of the PCP’s office is high dollar co-pay drugs.

Express Scripts are a pain in the tush to deal with. Lots of flagged drugs, even generics, no consistency on manufacture or country of orgin, For me this is a disaster, many people are drug sensitive like me.

The full goal is to shove you onto 0’care.

Well as we all know there is a lot of waste in DOD budgets.

Last year they repaved the Commissary parking lot, that did not need repaving. Did it on senior shopping day Tue, when it could have been done on Mon when Commissary is closed. Made a lot of senoirs sick.

This year we got electronic price things, that were not needed just a money waster, we also got a few monumental works of art. Not necessary either.

We also got this $7 grand horror installed in 5 mph parking lots of Exchange and Commissary. Now why do we need super sized speed bumps in a 5 mph parking lot pray tell? When you cannot even park the wrong way with out getting a ticket from base police?

We are an inland base in TN, they closed the hospital a few years ago. Then they changed the duty of the base from training to BUPERS record keepers. We had 1 shared Admiral, now we have quite a few more, none of them necessary, they spend more time on the golf course than working.

Retire those with 30 yrs, move the younger ranks up the ladder.

Heck just stopping mooch from shopping, and all those vacations, would save BILLIONS. Then there are all those phony congressional fact finding vacations we could eliminate. All the congressional perks, make them pay BC/BS for health care, not the Platinum one WE pay for, for them and their kids till they turn 26.

And not a dime should go off shore except to our Military. And you get no thanks except from fellow Vets either.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. THOSE WHO DON’T KEEP PROMISES TO THE MILITARY, WON’T KEEP THEM TO U!

Ret. SCPO’s wife.

Yup. Makes me sick every time I see one of these liberal pukes saying they Have our 6 in that commercial or whining about helping our wounded warriors. They could give a butt less. It is about appearances. Make them look good. They could care less.
