Walmart recently unveiled their new concept big rig, called the WAVE.
Short for Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience, its unlike anything weve ever seen on the road.
Not only does it have a radical new appearance, but many of the internal features are also unprecedented.
The steering wheel is positioned directly in the center of the cab, with a completely digital dashboard displayed on monitors on either side of the wheel.
On the outside, the trailer is made of carbon fiber and sheds 4,000 pounds off the weight of traditional semi trucks, allowing it to haul more goods.
The aerodynamic design and hybrid engine were created for maximum efficiency.
With 7,000 trucks and one of the largest fleets in the country, if these new efficient trucks are a success it can lead to many other businesses picking up similar vehicles.
What do you think of this new truck? Like it? Love it? Hate it?. Let us know.
Either way, its going to take some time to get used to.
I’ve looked at them too, they could well be the next Cummins. Very impressive technology.
This whole truck concept is rather amazing. Good work, Peterbilt!
very interesting
a couple on here. Even has a terrace on the roof
If it works for them then what’s not to like?
I admit I am over snarky but center wheel driving seems like it would be more than distracting considering the way most people are used to driving and will still be driving even if you are the only one driving this newfangled vehicle.
As a casual question why did the original car makers up and through a century of development NOT exploit this?
actually, quite a few pictures and even a video
Seems to me the designers would have figured out before they drove this a block why the steering wheel has always been located on the left side of the cab frame, and not in the center.
Oh...and you might have to get Obama to translate the video for you because I thing they’re speaking in Austrian
“As a casual question why did the original car makers up and through a century of development NOT exploit this?”
That’s why I say this is a platform for a self driving truck. That’s the only reason I can come up with.
pretty sure enduser has it they are shooting for the jump on robotic driving google glass tom tom webcam skype put enough on the road track driver ability or motility run it through a data stack
wind up the wind turbines spin some hot air through DC and it will be cool on your dime
and inshawallahmart
by god
we have a winner
Great minds and all that. I have to get on these threads faster...
I dunno about anybody else here but if I wuz sitting in that driver’s seat, I’d be confronted by an overwhelming urge to always steer a little more to the right. Just seems to centered for a left sided driver. IMO, it’s a flawed design.
Thankfully, they have abandoned that stupid smiley face look.
You will find that Allison automatic trans missions are becoming the standard these days.
Who cares
Thanks for the links!
Oh, and Obama doesn’t speak Austrian, only Keynesian, LOL.

Work is a four letter word. They would be liberated from job lock and free to pursue their passion. Now if only a few thousand unemployed would get passionate about Nancy Pelosi and pursue her.
They are likely using cameras as side mirrors. The fire truck I drive has a camera that comes on when you back up and another when you turn on the right turn signal that shows what’s in the blind spot.
