Contrary to popular misconceptions, physics is a b!tch. The effective aperture size of an antenna is basically a function of wavelength and physical size (with some limited exceptions that usually are inherently narrow banded in nature). It is still why you see HF and even some VHF OTH radar systems buried deep inside the air defense perimeter of any given country.
O.K. I’ll take that bad on Me. Thanks.
Precisely. That is how we were tracked flying out of Aviano. O'Grady was taken out by an SA-6 in the same area we flew over. Our job was to enforce the Dayton Peace Accords and to monitor all SA operation in Bosnia/Herzegovina.
Every time we launched we had a crowd of people across the street from the departure end of the runway. Some cheered, some help protest signs. A couple of others took photos and wrote notes. They were the ones we knew were calling their radar buds in Bosnia.
Yes, exactly. Multiple mobile radar sites, known flight paths, and observers were used in combination during the shoot down. My information comes from a person who would know, not Wikipedia.
;-)
Good name for it. It looks the part and it definitely did stink things up when it went to work.
‘Stinkbug’ goes way back, to Gulf War 1 I think - I was in the Pentagonal Edifice (Navy Staff) when I first heard that term. At least I heard my USAF buds call it that.
Yeah, just flush all the money spent on the F-35 away and start all over with another plane.
Also tell the Aussies that we don’t want their stinking $11.61 billion that they’re wanting to spend for 58 more f-35’s.

Throwing good money after bad never made much sense to me.
“Also tell the Aussies that we dont want their stinking $11.61 billion that theyre wanting to spend for 58 more f-35s.”
If they want it, then let them build it.
