The answer to this problem is really simple. Just make a really, really bad cake.

Gawd. IN previous generations, people who made up such insane rules would have been taken to a lunatic asylum to be cared for.

Now they run the government (and are turning all of America into a giant lunatic asylum)

If I were him, I would make wedding cakes only for friends and relatives.

~Lots of friends who donate money for baking supplies. Who can say how much?

After all, what are friends for?

I’d tell them to pound sand, close shop, and on the closure cite violation of religious liberty and free enterprise.
Businesses once had the right to refuse service.

Just make a white cake. Don’t ask what it’s for. Let them decorate it the way they want. Or, just say they don’t bake wedding cakes. It’s not profitable.

Go ahead and make the cake. If it’s chocolate, fill it full of Ex-Lax.

As mentioned in a related thread, the right not to do business with someone is acknowledged in the Constitution.

From a related thread ...

Note the following constitutional acknowledgement of the right not to do business with someone. The Constitution’s Clause 17 of Section 8 of Article I gives a state’s legislature the power to not consent to do business, deciding not to sell state property to the feds in that example.

From the Constitution's Clause 17 of Section 8 of Article I:"

”… and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent [emphasis added] of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, …”

So there is constitutional grounds for the right not to do business with someone.

Also, note that Clause 17 doesn't require a state to have reason not to do business. And not doing business in the name of 1st Amendment-protected religious expression is certainly as honorable under the Constitution as having no reason.

But what do the feds do when a state won’t consent to sell them some property? Does the Union then cease to exist? No! The feds just find a state willing to sell them property so that the feds can stimulate the economy of a state willing to do business with them by investing federal tax dollars in an Article I, Section 8-justifiable, multi-billion dollar military installation for example.

Likewise, I'm sure that competing bakers will appreciate the extra business from the Christian baker expressing his faith.

What about the sign for businesses: 'We reserve the right to serve anyone.'?

Business owners should have the right to refuse business.

Appeal. Slavery is unconstitutional. A business should have a right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. However, I can see a middle ground which would prevent a grocery store, for example, from refusing service. It is packaged goods which requires no personal input to complete the transaction. However, this isn’t, it requires (and this decision apparently compels) an artistic input.

And should appeals fail, continue on refusing such business, refusing to pay any fines for decisions based upon that, etc. You just can’t give in.
