Cantor will vote for Brat (Harrumph!)
The Hill ^ | June 15, 2014 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 06/15/2014 9:09:53 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Sunday he will vote for Dave Brat, the man who ended his career in Congress, but stopped short of congratulating him or mentioning his name.

Cantor, who lost to Brat despite outspending by a margin of 26 to 1, stressed the importance of keeping the Republican Party unified, a message he stressed to Tea Party conservatives in the House after the 2013 government shutdown.

Cantor said keeping his seat, Virginia’s 7th congressional district, in Republican hands is a priority and that’s why he’ll vote for Brat, who pummeled him mercilessly on the campaign trail as an ideological sellout.

“I want a Republican to hold this seat. Of course. Of course,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union." “This is about making sure that we have a strong Republican majority in the House. I'm hopeful we'll take it in the Senate, as well. I'm very optimistic about that.”

Cantor said GOP control of the House and Senate will provide a “real check” on the Obama administration.

But he did not mention Brat by name or congratulate him for his victory.

This has rankled Brat supporters who have criticized Cantor for not taking this customary step. They see it akin to Novak Djokovic not shaking Rafael Nadal’s hand after losing the French Open last week.

Cantor declined to speculate about his political future. He ruled out the possibility of running for governor in Virginia.

“No,” he said when asked about that job. “I am right now looking forward to sitting down with my wife, Diana. And we’ve talked a little bit. But we’re going to talk some more about the future.”

A gracious acknowledgement of Brat's victory and that he'll give Brat his full support would go a LONG way toward showing character in the face of defeat - but, but would it give encouragement to others who challenge the Establishment - such a time for the GOP-e: be BIG or be small.

As this slimy, duplicitous, dishonest creature begins the process of heading into his well deserved banishment he demonstrates a COMPLETE lack of “class”.

Good riddance to bad trash.

They don’t HAVE character. They don’t have integrity. And you can bet your last dollar that they will work to completely defang Brat at every opportunity while playing nice on TV.

As always. That’s what ‘punching the TEA Party in the nose means. Thats what destroying it means.

I just marvel at the people who keep deluding themselves that the GOP will work with us. But I think it pales to the wonder in any given GOP leadership meeting. They have to be sitting there shaking their heads and asking “Whadda we gotta do to clue these people in?”

That was Eric’s seat. The ignorant, racist, homophobic, anti-immigrant voters had no right to give it to someone else.

Cantor has a tremendous political and financial future. And he will make nice w Brat in the coming days. He’s actually helping brat, who has already proven on msnbc that he is not ready for prime time. This is a very dangerous stretch for brat and he should do his homework to avoid an akin moment.

Brat won the seat fair and square. Cantor mishandled the entire race.

That said, I think the people of va-7 are idiots to throw away the speakership for their district - cashiering it for a freshman back-bencher, but that is their decision.

So the purpose of a representative is to get loot for his/her district, not see to it that the feral government is limited to its constitutional enumerated powers?

Just loot. That's all that maters, right?

You're actually a Democrat, you're just too dim to realize it.

Please by all means sit down with your wife and talk. Just please don’t take a job in D.C. Get a real job. Leave us alone. You’ve done enough damage.

I probably should. Life would be easier as a Democrat. God knows I’d get less grief here.

Mirrors and sleeping might prove problematic though.
