I know - it seems like its been going on forever! And still two weeks to go. Its not the World Cup itself, its the Google Doodles. How many more of these stupid multicultural soccer gifs on its header (hee, hee) do we have to endure? 48 so far, and counting:
Yeah, Team USA lost to the chocolate people - and no, thats not racist, its just who they are:
Sure, it would have been nice to win something for a change, as weve been on a losing streak for a while now. First we were handed a bitter loss when the 2011 World Cup games were stolen from us by Quatar while we were still stinging from our loss of the 2016 Olympic Games to Brazil (now that was racist). And thats why Brazil is the the only nation south of our former border that we are allowed to officially hate.
So, with our loss to Belgium were out of the World Cup playoffs; yawn. Everybody around here is more concerned about our 13 game, 9 to zip losing streak against the Supreme Court. This has made our relentless march to nullify the Constitutional limits on Big Guys powers somewhat of an uphill battle. Even Mondays narrow 5 to 4 loss at the hand of the Supremes has some people spooked (not in a racist way), mumbling things like if we cant implement our plan to end the Republicans War on Women® what can we implement? Ive even heard some whispers of What next? The Senate?
So Im going to go out on a limb and predict that basketball and football are still safe around here, even in the age of Obama. Because Bos always found b-ball more compelling than soccer:
And we still really like spiking the football:
Although our Secretary of State clearly favors soccer, as he should:

An what just truncate the rest of the middle field?
Just have two Goal nets with a few patch of meters between?
rubbish.
“Rubbish” works in basketball, team handball with more goals, more dynamic game, more enjoyment.
Sorry, but you seem confused.
The World Cup IS an international tournament for countries, I think you are getting it confused with the major club soccer championships, like the European Champions League.
Soccer is pure capitalism. Its YOUR sports that are set up on socialist lines: draft, salary caps etc. Soccer is big teams, big crowds, big money, little clubs die. North American sports is all about quality.
America is not yet a soccer powerhouse, and it was playing several major soccer nations, with much more history, what the US did this year was terrific.
BTW, in baseball and football, teams with .500 records and even losing records get into playoffs, so soccer isn’t exclusive.
p.s I would rather watch paint dry than watch baseball or frankly ‘football’. The latter is OK, but waaay too long. Soccer and rugby games are 90m and 80m.
Much less boring than baseball or ‘football’.
And how is a sport un-American?.
I don’t feel confused at all. I know it’s a tournament for countries. But it looks like the countries have players from all nations on their teams and strive to get the best players so it’s really not a national team. That’s the source of my non-interest. If all the players on the Belgium team were Belgium , etc. for the other countries, I would be more interested.
The players may come from different ethnic backgrounds, that’s all.
Look I heard the commentary about where some of the players came from so I lost interest.
Players will come from various ethnic backgrounds (as a Scotsman, 99% of my country’s team are white and Celtic/Anglo-Saxon, but one player is of black African and white Scottish parentage, ironically he is probably the most gifted player), but the World Cup is for international players. Just as a foreign NHL or NBA player cant play for America at the Olympics.
You cannot buy players to play in the world cup, they have to be of the nationality of the nation they are playing for. Either born there, of that country’s parents, or by naturalisation.
