Smart Meters at your local shopping mall
canadafreepress.com ^ | 7/8/2014 | Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh

I went shopping today for a pair of pants. I was hoping it would only take a few minutes. How difficult could that be in the land of plenty? As I entered the large department store, I was greeted by stifling heat and humidity. This particular department store chain uses smart meters, cycled and controlled by the power company from a remote location in order to “save” them money. Customers and employees suffer because a small group of elites have managed to convince and bribe bureaucrats and politicians into pushing the agenda of non-existent global warming.

The same kind of crap is heard repeatedly at the kohl's stores in our area over the PA system. The muzak is interrupted to let the shoppers know that the store meets LEED practices/requirements and how they're "helping" to reduce the carbon footprint blah, blah, blah. Although Momma saves (spends less cause it's only saving if you don't spend it. LOL!) a ton of money with her coupons etc., it's gotten to the point of my not wanting to even go in with her. Makes me want to puke. Thanks Dr. Johnson for another well thought out article.

Just another reason to shop online.

Best way to deal with them. Don’t shop there, post why online and notify their store managers why you don’t shop there anymore.

The global warming blather is just a cover for them wanting to lower their bills. It is just like a stay at a motel run by a family from Nowhereistan, where the light bulbs are the 2 for a dollar flickery fluorescents, a little card suggests saving the planet by reusing your towels instead of having them replaced. The people running the joint couldn't give four bits for the planet, they like saving the money and posturing like they are being thoughtful.

This is funny because it happened to me a number of years ago at a fast food joint. We went in while a blizzard was taking place. It was just as cold inside as it was outside. All of the employees were dressed like eskimos. Appropriate for the Christmas season. I asked them why they just didn’t turn up the heat. They told me that the thermostat for the joint was in California. Unreal.

We just tore up an option for a so called free $50 check to allow PG&E to put a remote control on our AC unit. Then, they could regulate our useage of our AC unit.

We basically had no financial choice not to allow the smart meter to be installed about two years ago. If we opted out, our electric bills would have increase by a large amount each month.

When I see the “re-use” towel placards to help save the planet, I toss them in the trash and the used towels (and unused) go on the floor for replacement every day. Just doing my part. ;>}

I had this happen to me at a Target store, funny thing is there were people complaining there, I haven’t had this happen since. Don’t know if they are with the program still or they abandoned it due to the backlash I was seeing.

Reminds me of the Pontiac Fiero. In a blizzard, the wipers stopped working.

The manual said this was a safety feature to prevent the wiper motor from burning out.

A safety feature.

We do the same.

Let the enviral whacko/dumbed down liberals use dirty towel and dirty sheets.

In NV I don’t believe we had an “opt out” option available so the elec and gas both have “smart meters” on them. More like control devices that can be adjusted as the power company sees fit even though they promised they would never be used like that. Wonder how quick they’d show up if one were to build a farady cage around them and the signals stopped. Probably with the sheriff right along with them. ;>}

How practical is this kind of thing? Do they monitor your power usage and then turn off your aircond accordingly? Or do they just arbitrarily shut it down?

We have a smart thermostat and it is turned down most of the day anyway. It ramps back up before we return home. It wouldn't be fun if it had been turned off most of the afternoon. Our house can get very uncomfortable without the air. We discovered this a couple of years ago when our aircond died.

“Just another reason to shop online.”

My wife, DIL, grandkids, nieces and nephews are starting to agree with my on line shopping. Even if you don’t save money and have to pay state sales taxes, it is cheaper and easier to buy on line with delivery.

We know people, who buy their groceries on line from a local store and Safeway. With the exception of meat, seafood and fresh produce, why not buy on line.

I wouldn’t mind reusing the towels and not changing the sheets, IF they gave me a break on the second night room rate.

Shopping on line is far from perfect. Clothes and shoes often don’t fit and have to be returned. There are thieves who follow the UPS truck around and steal the packages a few minutes after they are dropped off. We buy books online from Amazon but not much else.

At this point our smart meters only record our useage and time of useage.

What ticked me off was when our contractor found our smart meter was connected to our Comcast internet/phone line when we had some work and painting done last year. He severed the connection and so far no SS troopers have appeared.

right in one.

I've participated in these smart meter programs before (I don't now, I've no need and don't think they're offered where I am, anyway). Far from what the author (and some posters) describe - they were really un-noticeable. Approximately, the power company had the ability to kill power to my heat pump for 15 minute intervals every hour, during peak times. For that privilege, they knocked 20% off my bill - at a time where 20% was a whole lot of money to me.

Sez me, if your house warms to an unbearable temp in 15 minutes, then you need to shut a window.
